1 Not Today, Not Tomorrow By Rachel Moore AUSTRALIA November 23, 2010 11 PM and the wind picked up its pace, the sun covered with a mantle of clouds. In Australia, up in the Northern Territory, it was supposed to be one of the most humid and hottest times of the year but there I was, shivering. A pink and blue Bali sarong wrapped around me, and even with the thin fabric of it, I felt warmer. I was a colorful cocoon lying on a picnic table in the middle of a park. 11:45 and the path to Edith Falls went uphill, with the gloomy clouds still hovering in the sky. Reaching a point where it finally started going downhill; the sun decided to emerge from her own refuge of the clouds. Glimpses of the waterfall became apparent, as through the trees we could see the water rushing softly, the sun’s rays glistened every inch. As if everything was holy, Edith Falls glowed. The sun seemed to revolve around this area, as if it was the center of the universe. The water had something in it that it seemed as if going in, could be the solution to all problems, as cold water moved slowly with the rapids. going to Edith Falls, and it’s true when said it’s somewhere worth going to, and somewhere never forgotten.

The sun’s lights made the brown rocks turn golden, varying from different shades, and the crystal blue water swayed slowly, splashing steadily against the rocks. The colors were vivid; making everything seem fresh and brand new. The water was a pool surrounded by groups of rocks that opened into a ‘u’ shape, and the water continued outstretching for miles down cliffs and into rivers. Light of the afternoon sun fell upon us, her rays lingering. Rushing of the vast waterfall accompanied the sounds of birds chirping, fusing into one single symphony. One song that is the soundtrack of tranquility; Edith Falls was a form of Nirvana.

Edith Falls, the only place in the world where you can find peace within ten minutes of

arrival. Jane, our guide, likes to say about the Northern Territory, “NT for Northern Territory, or for Not Today, Not Tomorrow”. Cameras can’t capture Edith Falls and her tranquility, and it can’t be expressed with words. It’s in the moment in time, but neither is it today or is it tomorrow, the experience of heaven on earth can only be experienced in the moment you’re there.
