IMPRESSIONS OF MY

by   Waj^e Murphy

One of the

most

inspir ing and inpressive worship services of

which

have ever

been

a

par t took place ill the

Church of Christ in

Kolobrz

Poland. The

building was

lo cated w ith in a shor t

had o r i g i n a l l y been

as a

of

The

building

with

people

standing

around

the

crowded pews

People greeted us

as i f

we

were

had

Theiif language

By

visiting Poland

in  98 it^ er^tire perspective of the

work

of

Department

of

on

a

I saw crowded buildings. I saw houses.that were used as chu

they

came to hear the Word proclaimed. We did not speak t h e i r language/

Dear

Bro.

Bajko

Our summer has past so f as t and

the fa l l

i s already

here

Our f a l l th is

year i s t ru ly

beau t i fu l

As you know a t the end

of

the summer we celebrated the 40th anniversary o

our

congregation

in Warsaw.Tliere was much activity and work sur rounding th

event, but

was

well

worth

the

e f fo r t

for us

to take

tha t time

to look

back.

Reflection on the past enriches and deepens the

experience

of l i fe

i

the present.

Maybe

bacause

I

myself

am forty, I

had

strong feelings

abou

that

jubilee

forty years

is quite a

time.

The

celebration

i t se l f

is

imp

tant , but

i t lasts jus t

a

short

moment and

then i t is

gone. But

the jubi le

reminds us

of

the

fact that

something has happened and

past

away

and/o

that something

was

accomplished. I t

speaks

of

a work done by men

with

the

l imitat ions and weaknesses, but also speaks of

t a lent

hear t ingenuity, d

d ica t ion e t c

And you. Bro th er Pau l,

played

a

s igni f icant

ro le in

that

work. You have

already received the off ic ia l l e t t e r

of grat i tude

from the

Church and

th

t i t l e

of the Honorary Member of

our

congregation. But, I would l ike to ex

press my personal grat i tude to you

for your heart ,

endurance and zeal show

in

the

ministry

of

spreading

the

Gospel

to

our fellow country

men.

Broth

Paul, what I

wil l say

is

nothing

new to

you,

but s t i l l l e t me

t e l l

you ho

I

see things concerning you.

You had

the

same

choice

that

many

other Chris

t i ans t ha t went

overseas

to America had, the choice of

making

a career an

a

li ving the re .

But you

chose instead to

carry on

evangelism

to

our

count

A GREAT

REUNION

We

spent

hours in

conversation

about

l ife in Russia

and especially about

sp i r i t ua l l i f e

The part of Soviet Union where they live was Poland before the Second World

War where we had many churches of

Christ .

For

years they suffered

persecution.

All

Churches were

incorporated into

on

Evangelical Christian-Baptist Union where they had limited freedom to worshi

in

registered

churches. There was much limitation put on children and youn

people.

I t

was forbidden to take children to church and only

at

the age o

18 young people were allowed to be baptized.

There

was

constant shortage of

Bibles

l i t e ra ture

songbooks

etc.

Lately

because of glasnost they

got

more freedom to worship

visi t

and e-

vangelize.

Today doors are open

for

sending there

Bibles

and Christian literature.

These opportunities

are

redeemed by us and we ship many packages with Bible

and l i t e ra tu re di rec t ly from USA.

At

the

same time we engaged several

preachers

in Poland to send hundreds of

Bibles from Poland to the Soviet Union. Also we

keep several

thousands Bib

les

and literature for those

people

from

Russia

who vis i t Poland and worsh

in our churches and on their way back they

carry with

them full suitcases

of Bibles Bibles f or c hild re n and songbooks.

There

is great

spiritual hunger and we try to supply the spiritual food.

Together with almost all members of my family from the Soviet Union we

went

South

where we

vis i ted

some

his tor ica l places

and

every

evening we ha

services in Churches: in Dobrowa Gornicza Katowice Sosnowiec. We held

a gloomy

economical

si tuation;

I saw

working

preachers;

I was

able

to preach

almost every

day and some days se

veral times;

I saw buildings

being bui l t or

purchased

with our help

and I

saw

determination of

our

preachers to stay in Poland

and

to preach

There is a

trend

in

Poland

l ik e in many other   ocial i s t ic countr ies to leav

the country for a bet ter l i fe in America

or

any other

Western country

any

denominational churches loose

many of

their

ministers do not

did

not loose a

single

one

All

of them

are in our

prayers and

support

and

stay firmly

on

the

ground

preaching the

Gospel

e thank God for that

But they need more prayers and more help in purchasing places of worship in

new areas They also

need

more l i e ra ture

All of us who

vis i ted

Poland

this

year saw great things done

in

Poland

Congregation
