TWENTY FIVE YEARS OF PUBLICATIONS OF CHRISTIAN

LITERATURE

Twenty five years ago we published the fiirst issue of our Polish magazine underthe name of "THE GUIDEPOST."

We prayed that it may become the tool to reach souls fo Christ and strengthenChristians in Poland and many other countries. We never dreamed that we will reach so many people with this magazine and thatwith every year there will be more and mp::e readers.

Almost every week many letters reach our ministers in Poland and us here with requests for more Christian literature and Bibles.

In this issue we are sharing with you some of those letters:

"Dear Brother in Christ; First of all I would like to thank you for sending methe New Testament. I am very happy to have this beautiful New Testament which Ican carry in my purse with me everywhere I go.To ray great joy I received also two issues of the magazine "The Guidepost". Iread it immediately from cover to cover, t must admit that it is a much neededmagazine which in simple but convincing vfay reaches our minds and hearts anddraws the reader to the eternal Words of Life in the Bible.Religious articles, personal testimonies, poems, excerpts from books and songs -all,together makes it interesting and stiiiulates the reader to reflections andquestions: "What is my personal attitude to all these things?"Dear Brother, if it is possible, please send me some old issues of "The Guidepost"I will not hide this but tell frankly tha^ all articles in this magazine are very interesting and indeed bring the Holy l^criptures closer to nqr heart. It is wonderful how the Word of God is reaching people in some least expectedand peculiar ways.May the Lord be glorified in our lives! May every person find the Lord and ex-hold Him!Once more thank you-for the literature and I remain awaiting more of "The Guide-post". jI send you my greetings and the best wishes in our Lord Jesus Christ. THE YEAR 1983 was one of the greatest our ministry.Despite niy 5 months long sickness 1 did not miss one speaking date - the Lordwas nor thrength. Then in June and July Dela, I and other ^erican Brethren made the trip to Poland for dedication of the Multipurpose Building in Ostroda and to preach inevery Church of Christ. After our return from Poland I started to travel again speaking in Churches andholding Faith Promise Rallies.

In 1983 with your help we were able to support 25 preachers in Poland, to restore several church buildings, to purchase 10000 Bibles, to send thousands ofcassettes with songs and messages, to publish regularly our Polish magazine andother literature and to help people with medicine, clothing and food.In every church in Poland souls accepted Christ as personal Savior and werebaptized into Christ.

The YEAR 1984 will be even busier, especially with raising thousands of dollarsfor new church buildings and starting new works in Poland.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love and concern, foryour sacrificial giving and prayers. P 0 /Please pray for us and the work in Poland. Yours in Christ,

Konstanty J. Jaroszewicz

"BE THOU FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH, AND I WILL GIVE THEE A CROWN OF LIFE" Rev. 2:10

Great preacher and founder of the Churches of Christ in Poland, Bro. KONSTANTIN JARO-SHEVICH went to be with the Lord at the age of 93.

Konstantin Jaroshevich arrived in this country as a refugee and in this new countryhe was won to Christ by Bro. Joseph Keevil in New York City. Some time later he met Z.T. Sweaney who persuaded him to go to Johnson Bible College in 1912, where he spent 4years studying the Word of God. For the next 5 years he preached in New York City, Baltimore, Chicago and other places, but he longed to return to Poland as a missionary.

Bro. Jaroshevich with his closest co-workers in Poland

Page 6: Bajko Paul Adela 1984 Poland ECC

In 1921, at Che age of 30, Konstantin Jaroshevich together with his wife and sonlanded in Poland with the Gospel of Christ.Poland just gained independence and was recovering from the First World War.People were poor but clung to the established traditional religion. Bro. Jaro -shevich opened the Bible and started to proclaim the simple Gospel - the sacri -fice of Jesus Christ and love of God. /John 3:16/Hundreds of souls accepted Jesus as their personal Savior and were baptized intoChrist.

Churches after Churches were established and by 1939 there were 85 Churches withover hundred mission stations. IThere was a need for Church buildings, Bibles, literature and trained preachers.

Bro. Jaroshevich was returning several times to USA to raise support. - Buildingswere built, preachers were trained and Christian periodicals were published re -gularly.The Church of Christ was recognized by the Polish government, so the Churcheswere leading their activities legally.

Bro. Jaroshevich gained several good co-workers, like Jerzy Sacewicz, Jan Buko-wicz, Bazyli Bajko, Boleslaw Winnik and others whc^ in addition to regular preaching, were able to train each year many young men for the ministry as choir directors or Sunday school teachers, and organizing mission groups. Each year thousands of Christians met for a whole week in great convention ofChurches of Christ.

Convention of Churches of Christ

During the Second World War Bro. and Sister Jaroshevich were forced to leave Polandand returned to USA. Churches in Poland did not cease to exist and the work was

going on.After the War Bro. Jaroshevich returned to Poland with funds, food, Bibles and different kind of supplies. In new areas churches were organized, a Bible School to train preachers was estab -lished and an orphanege was organized for hornless children.

From 19A0 till his death Bro. Jaroshevich resided in USA. In July 1981 his wonder -ful wife, Ksenia, went to be with the Lord.

Since my coming to USA in 1950 I met Bro. Jaroshevich almost each year and we talkedabout work in Poland and he gave me his blessing to continue the work in Polandwhich he started in 1921 and led till 1950.

Each time we were in Poland the Christians there anxiously inquired about Bro. Jaroshevich and always sent him many greetings. The people and Lord's work in Poland were upon heart of Bro. Jaroshevich till hedied.

With great sorrow but also with pride I took part in his funeral preaching on thetext from Psalm 90:12 "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our heartsunto wisdom"

Bro. David Tysinger, minister of Aragona Church of Christ in Va. Beach. Va.brought a wonderful message entitled "Graduation address for Konstantin Jaroshevich"which we in part reprint, and Mrs Barnett sang two beautiful songs.

GRADUATION ADDRESS FOR KONST^TIN JAROSHEVICH by David Tysinger

"The last great obstacle has been met. Konstantin-Jaroshevich, servant of God isdead. Yet, we speak of death in a different way than most men. Konstantin wouldtell us this, right now, if the Lord allowed it; he would tell us what he recentlydiscovered about dieath. He understands now what the Apostle Paul meant when in hiswaning years, he wrote "the time of my departure is near". The Apostle Paul care -fully chose the word "departure" instead of "death". "Departure", is the word usedby the nomad when pulling up the stakes of his tent to move to another oasis."Departure" is the word used by mariners:for casting off confining lines and anchors in order to escape the harbor for ^e open sea. "Departure" is the freedomexperienced by the butterfly leaving theltocoon. "Departure" is a word only Christians can use for death. Konstantin Jaroshevich has not died, if you mean bydeath the termination of value, meaning, ^d reality. He has only pulled up stakes and moved to an oasis with God. We suffer loss at his departure... becauseour lives and affections are built on humto relationships. We suffer loss, butwe need no suffer grief like other men. p4ath came to Konstantin Jaroshevich asa friend, a needed rest. His departure fr6m here was a loss to us, but his arrival there was exciting to him! We know ihe presence od God only in part; heknows Him fully!

We miss him who was Grandfather, Father, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Preacher, andTeacher. He filled vital places in our relationships on two continents. Life willnot be quite the same, and yet, in the place of the vacancy he left, he has givenyou a great spiritual legacy... If there is anything we must forgive Konstantin Jaroshevich for, we must forgive him for being a soldier, a centurion^ a warrior. The Scripture tells us that"no soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of every day life,so that he may please the one who enliste^ him as a soldier". If there is anythingwe must pardon, we must pardon his singlej-minded devotion to the matters of theLord. D.L. Moody probsdaly said first... "The world is yet to see a man fully consecrated to God".Konstantin Jaroshevich comes about as close as any man I have ever met. Even at93, he prepared two sermons a-^eek to give to the church. He stood at the doorof the church each Sunday to oversee the flock. Even when he fell this past Friday, in a vain attempt to change the light bulb above his writing desk, it wascertainly that same stubborn drive to keep the light burning - that brought lightto a half dozen countries despite the risks.

Now that his earthly life expired, whar really counts for Konstantin Jaroshevich? What achievements matter? First, those people he invested his life into, whether family, friend, or foe, especially Brothers and Sisters in the Lord.

Secondly, his leap of faith: like you and I, he was not perfect. But Konstantin Jaroshevich relentlessly placed his f^ith in Jesus Christ as the Hope ofEternal Life. He expects to be there when the trumpet blows and the dead inChrist arise. He expects to walk the halls of the new Jerusalem and to do soin a new body..."

NOW, TILL WE MEET AGAIN ON THE OTHER SHORE IN GLORY, LET US SAY: "LORD HELP USTO PREACH THE GOSPEL IN SIMPLICITY AND POV/ER TILL JESUS COMES!

In the meantime we got intouch with our Churches inPoland

[ their needs for Bibles, SongPaul Bajko preaches in Poland books, Sunday Schol material,

Christian literature as wellas clothing and medicine. Immediately we started to act. Appeals were made to A-merican Christians and money was raised toward purchases of Bibles and New Testaments, medicine and shipment of used clothing.Since that time we delivered to Poland at least 20.000 Bibles, sent hundreds of packages with medicine and shipped over 5.000 boxes with used clothing.

Our next project was literature and songbooks. Dela started to translate songs fromEnglish into Polish and I translated "Life of Christ",visualized and the Book ofActs.

During the years Dela translated hundreds of songs and we were able to publish eightsong books and 3 Cantatas with a total of|50.000 copies.

"Life of Christ",visualized and the Book of Acts publication was repeated severaltimes and now it is printed directly in Poland with several thousands copies eachedition.

There was a need in Poland for poems for special occasions used during the servi-

ces, so Dela started to write poems and published her book under the name of "Dro-gowskazy" /Guideposts/ in 1970. Then we published four more books with poemsof contemporary Christian authors.

The Polish translation of the book "The Harmony of Science and Scripture" by HarryRimmer was published in 1980 and the booklet "What Cured Naaman's Leprosy" By W,V. Ramsey in 1981.

In 1957, under our sponsorship, Adam Korenczuk came from Argentina to ECI to betrained into ministry and in 1958 Kostek Jakoniuk and George Bajenski came fromPoland.

After the move of the College from Jew Jersey to Maryland we started to work inBaltimore among Slavic people. As the result of that the Slavic Church of Christwas started which now is completely selfsupportingwith her own mission program.Adam Korenczuk serves as the minister.

The year 1960 was a year of great achievements and excitement.

First, we started to publish a 20 pages monthly Polish magazine under the name"Drogowskaz" /The Guidepost/ which became the most popular Christian magazine inPoland and reaches thousands of people with the Good News. Then we made our first trip to Poland and met hundreds of Christians and all ministers, and were able to see first hand their needs, problems and victories for theLord,

Since that time I made 10 trips to Poland. Sometimes Dela accompanied me,other ti-

mes some American preachers came along,

After our first visit in Poland we were;challenged to start a radio ministry whichoriginated in 1961 under the financial sponsorship of the Gospel Broadcasting Mission. It became a great tool in leading]many souls to Christ. Also while in Poland we saw their greati^ed of places of worship. Since 1960 wewere able to purchase, or build and ren^ate 15 buildings.

We also challenged many young men to go Into ministry and helped them with theirtraining directly in Poland. There was the need to assist regularly bur preachers and workers financially andwe met that need. They are preaching in 20 congregations and 35 mission places.

Many musical instruments like: guitars, nandolins, trumphets and organs were purchased and sent to Poland.

In 1966 the first Christian Service Cani^ was organized in Poland and in 1971 wepurchased a piece of land with a large i>am in Ostroda and developed it into apermanent location of a Christian Servi|c|e Camp in Poland where many young soulsaccepted Christ. A Multipurpose buildijnig was constructed and dedicated in July1983. IIIn 1967 Mr. and Mrs Winnik arrived fronj Poland to USA to work at the Departmentof Missions in radio and cassette ministlry. Now thousands of cassettes with messages in Word and song are sent to Polair^d each year.In 1980 through 1982 during the economical crisis in Poland, Dept. of Missionssent food, medicine and clothing to our churches for over 570,000.00.

We also helped almost every of our preachers to purchase a place where to liveand a car.

In this country I travel extensively ana preached in 2000 churches and held o-ver 200 Faith Promise Rallies.

In those 30 years the Department of Missions was able to raise in contributions, just for the Polish Ministry, over SI,060,000.00.All money are sent to Poland officially'through the Polish Trading Corporation. Each year all our financial records are audited by CPA.Our annual budget has grown from SH,000.00 in 1954 to SI22,000.00 in 1984.

"The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord ofthe harvest, that He will send forth laborersinto His harvest" Mat. 9:37-38

Poland, recently one of the most known countries in the World because of specialevents that took place there, is white and ready for the harvest.

We thank God, that in different ways He speaks to people and leads them to salvation, and we thank God for dedicated workers who faithfully preach the Gospel.

Recently we received few letters from our preachers in Poland in which they share some good news. One writes: "On May 20th, 25 souls were baptized into Christ. Our chapeZ on Putaska Street in VJarsob) is getting too small. We plan to build anew one. We opened special "building fund". We also have tuo mission stations."

June 16, 1984, at the age of 83,Bro. NIKON JAKONIUK, pioneeringpreacher of the Church of Christin Poland, departed to be withthe Lord.

Bro. Jakoniuk was one of the most

humble men and a faithful preacher. All his life he labored in

eastern part of Poland. He wasa highly respected man. Therewas always smile on his face.He was a good preacher, father andcounsellor.

Last time I saw Bro. Jakoniuk in

July 1983. He still was able to

preach and was much concerned about Lord's work in Poland.

The ministry which Bro. Jakoniuk led through so many years is continued by hisson Kostek.

SPECIAL APPEAL FROM THE KOLOBRZEG CHURCH OF CHRIST

Peter Karel, minister78-100 Kolobrzegul. Waska 20 m. 19 May 1984

The city of Kolobrzeg is located on the Baltyk seacoast betweentwo largest Polish harbours: Szczecin and Gdansk. Before the World War II it was called Kolberg and most of the inhabitants were Lutherans. At the present the majority of its population belongs to the Catholic Church. The only Evangelical Church/Church of Christ/ was established in 1980. It is one of the fewChurches of Christ on the Polish Seaside.

An old, previously German church building, was overhauled thanksto sacrificial work of several Christians and contributions from

USA.

The congregation of about 100 members gathers here three times aweek. The members of our church live in Kolobrzeg and in neighbouring villages.

A number of guests from USA and other countries have visited ourchurch. They brought food and other goods which was considerablehelp for us while Poland faces dificult economic crisis. We would like to express our gratitude to them, but we believe thatour Lord shall reward them abundantly.

Dear Brethren, we would like to share with you our present concern.

The public transportation is a weak point in our city and thereforenot all believers can attend the services regularly. Some of themmust walk 10 kilometers in order to take part in the worship.
