We sent hundreds of packages with prescription medicine, published Polish magazine, the book "Power of the HolySpirit" by Don DeWelt and sent Bibles to Poland and Russia;trained young people for ministry; supported the Home for theSenior Citizens in Ostroda; sponsored Retreats for youth andmarried couples; with the financial help from IDES, wepurchased tons of food and distributed it among our churches;sponsored an evangelist who is broadcasting the Gospelthrough radio IBRA and paid time for local radio program inGdynia-Gdansk.

We praise God for all victories of the Church of Christ inPoland as we witnessed ourselves or received the news ofyoung and old being baptized into Christ i

Poland is a free country, but there are millions of peoplethere who are in slavery of sin, tradition and superstition. Therefore, we continue to carry the Good News of redemptionand salvation to the Polish people.

New church building in Bialogard

OVER $10,000.00 RECEIVEDFROM OUR DECEMBER SPECIAL APPEAL

The economical crisis in Poland forced us to make a

special appeal asking for $30,000 in order to provide moreBibles to Russia and Poland, to raise ministers' salariesfrom $100 to $150 per month - prices in Poland are going upcontinually and another raise will be necessary again tofinish church buildings in several places and to purchase adormitory for our students who study at the Academy ofTheology in Warsaw.

So far we have got 60 responses with a total of a littleover $10,000. We PRAISE GOD for it and THANK YOU ypu frgp

With that money on hand, and some extra undesignatedcontributions, we were able to send $3,600 to Bro. Kostek

Jakoniuk for the church building in Bielsk Podlaski, $5,000toward the building in Bialogard, $3,000 toward the buildingin Miedzylesie and $1,550 for the purchase of a house ofworship at the mission station in Jaworzno.

This 3t£ax HS axe facing much greater needs than afi.anticipated. I just received a letter from Kostek Jakoniukin which he writes that in order to be ready for dedicationof their new building on June 30th they need at least $15,000to $20,000, And, we still need to purchase the dormitory forour Bible students!

We hope and trust that those who received our Decemberappeal will continue to respond so we can reach the needed$30,000.

70th ANHIVBRSARY OF

THE CHURCHES OF CHRIST IN POLAND

For 70 years, the Church in Poland is the light whichrevealed the Truth to many and led them to Christ. In those70 years, the Church went through glorious times and times ofsorrow, persecution and failures. But the promise of Christ:"Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hellshall not prevail against it" (Matt.16:18) stands.

Lord willing, on June 28-30, 1991, we will meet in BielskPodlaski to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Church ofChrist in Poland.

Many in the USA have expressed the desire to take part inthat great celebration. For them we suggest a 15-day tripfrom June 18 to July 2. During that trip we will be able tobe in several churches in the South, North and East andvisit Poland's historical places. But, most of all, we willsee the Lord's work in Poland and take part in the greatcelebration. I believe that such a trip will not cost morethan $1,500 - $2,000 per person. It will include air-travel,housing, transportation in Poland, meals and buying souvenirs

Those who would like to go, please, write to me for moreinformation immediately or call me at (301) 734-7250.

The same day I read in my daily devotion a portion ofIsaiah: "For unto us a child is bom, mto us a son is given; and thegovernment shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be calledWonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Princeof Peace."

Almost 2,000 years ago CHirist was bom, but like never before the worldneeds Him as a Prince of Peace. We need Him in America, Poland, in thePersian Gulf, in Asia, in Africa, in South America, in Australia - everywhere, because today people live in turbulence, groping in darkness.

The Scripture asks: "Why are the nations in an uproar, the people devisinga vain thing?" (Ps.2:l). From everywhere we hear the cries: "We need peace,we need stability, we have to live!" - but instead of that immorality, occultism, racism, sexualism, hunger and poverty spread like cancer.People think about vain things...

But in these dark times there are churches that are missionary minded andare concemed about the fate of people, their souls and their bodiesknowing that only the Gospel of Christ - the Prince of Peace - can makepeace and reconcile people to God.

We thank God for the Churches that stay behind us in prayers and lovinglyhelp us to carry the Good News in many ways to thousands of people inPolandI

THERE KRE OPEN DOORS IN POLAND

We hope that we choose the best way to do the work in Poland.

1. First of all, we provide Bibles because Scriptures say: "So then faithCometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God" (Rom. 10; 17).

2. Rom. 10;14 says; "How then shall th^y call on Him in Whom they have notbelieved? And how shall they believe in Him of Whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?"Therefore we send preachers. Preachers not from other countries who donot know the language, customs and life of the country, but preachers whowere bom there, who received training there, who know their own people, who know how to suffer. There are almost 40 preachers and workers in theChurches of Christ in Poland who work diligently in very difficult economical situation, where prices are Anjerican, but the income Polish - average $150 per month.

3. We care about children, youth and S^ior Citizens, so in Poland there isa Christian Service camp, a Correspondence Seminary and a Home for SeniorCitizens, but again there is shortage of fimds even to provide the minimum necessities.

One of the most important necessitieis is medicine for the sick which inPoland is often unattainable. Peoplle beg us for medicine all the time.We just received a prescription for "Polinex" which costs $285 !

4. We provide churches with songbooks and literature which have a direct message to the hearts of people. The response is wonderful. People ask formore!

5. People in Poland are great radio listeners. They are eager to hear theGood News about Christ. We thank God for our radio minister, Bro. AntoniKosciecha, who works with great sacrifice broadcasting Good News throughIBEIA station.

TRIP TO ijoLANDDue to many changes in Poland, a larger ^roup of American preachers plan thisyear to visit Poland from June 12 - July 2. We will visit several churches, dedicate 3 newly built church buildings, celebrate the 70th Anniversary of theChurches of Christ in Poland, have seminars for preachers and their wives, visit some historical places, deliver Bibles and food which will be providedby IDES, churches and individuals.

LETTERS FROM POLAND AND RUSSIA

"Dear Brother publisher of 'DROGOWSKAZ':

Greetings to all who work at publishing 'DROGOWSKAZ'! I appreciate verymuch your efforts in producing such a great magazine. I often use itsarticles in my ministry. I minister in our Polish mountains, Beskidy, working in the Bible Hour broadcast. Otherwise, I am a teacher in a localschool and I am a Christian for ten years now. Therb was a time when theLord Jesus found me and saved me, and now He is the Shepherd of my soul.

I have a request. Is it possible to receive your magazine for the nextyear and in bigger quantity? Some of your magazines reach our brethren fromtime to time and they read them from the beginning to the end. I writedirectly to you because I would like to receive your magazine regularly.Maybe you have some old issues? We would appreciate receiving them verymuch. Thank you before hand!'

"Dear publishers of 'DROGOWSKAZ':

I write to you as a Christian from Ukraine. I am a Pole by birth, but livein Russia and have learned the Polish language through reading and listeningto the radio with the help of a dictionary. I listen to the. Polish Christian broadcast and read your magazine which I received from Poland.

I am a raerajber of a little group of Christian youth and we want to evangelize people and tell them about salvation in Christ.

In order to be effective, we need literature and we want to compile alittle library. But, here it is impossible to get anything, so I write toyou to help us and send any literature you have. God's Word is for all ofus the way of life and we want to show others that Way. May the Lord bless

"Dear publishers:

I am an amateur of the pipe organ sound and love classical music. I liketo look for sdngbooks with good compositions. So far, I have gathered justa few of those.

For eight months I have been looking for songbooks published by you, bothpart I and II of your 'One Song. ' I heard that 'One Song - II' containsone especially beautiful song entitled 'Great God. ' I am writing to youasking whether it were possible to receive some of your songbooks. Or, ifyou have any other songbooks with music, could you, please, send them to meas well? Thank you before hand!"

NO MORE USED CLOTHING!

Despite bad econcny in Poland, we ceased to send used clothing to Polanddue to very high postage.

After 47 years I was able to come back to the place whereI was born twice - phycically and spiritually.

May 14th my wife, Dela, and I landed in Moscow, where weBill Smith •' •' '

were met by an representantive from the Evangelical - Baptist Union of the Soviet Union.

During our 3 days stay in Moscow we visited the city, the Kreml and I preached at the Moscow Evangelical Baptist Church. I also met with the leaders of the Evangelical movements to hear about the spiritual situation inthe Soviet Union and to contribute S 4,000.00 toward printing of 100,000Russian Children's Bibles.Staying with Dela's relatives we were able to witness to them about Christ,

To assist us with our travels my brother came from Pinsk with his car.We visited the Church in Leningrad, Minsk and finally arrived at my birth

place - Targoszyce-Pinsk.

Some of Paul's relatives

In Pinsk I preached in twochurches and visited myold city and some friendsfrom Highschool days.

From Pinsk we traveled

to Kobryn where we met *some friends from myyouth, saw the newchurch bulding beingbuild, talked with leaders of the church and

preached at the eveningservice.

Here I contributed over

S 2,000.00 toward theirnew building.

The last stop was inBrest where at the ageof 16 I was baptizedinto Christ. Here we |met many friends from Iold days and some rela- •tives and on Sunday Ipreached in two churches.

lir' ^ >*3.',-'

New church building being build in Kobryn

Now I would like to sunmiarize our impressions about life and Church in the Soviet Union,

1. Life in general is very poor - stores are empty - in some places food is rationed. Food and clothing are expensive. Housing is inadequate - in some places 3-4 families live in one apartment with one kitchen and no hot water,

2. Spiritual life of believers is good, iln cities churches are larg^ in villages small. 'There are usually 3-4 services a week and at each service people respond to thegospel invitation. Services last 2-3 hours with 4-5 persons delivering shortmessages. Each church has a choir which performs many times during the service. There is Sunday school for children only.In the churches everybody has a Bible but there is shortage of good Christianliterature, Sunday school matarial and Children's Bibles.

3. With new freedom many false teachers and exploiters from the West camewithfalse teachings and split the churches. Also different cults sprang in bigcities.

Another problem facing the Russian churches is the "invasion" of parachurchgroups from the West with different kinds of teachings.

June 10th we crossed the boarder and arrived in Warsaw where after one day ofrest I went to the Southern part of Poland where I preached in 2 churches andmet for a conference with the preachers of that area. After returning to Warsaw we met the Vernon Brothers and Jack Ward with whomwe went to Biala Podlaska and Miedzyles.

Vernon Brothers and Jack Ward in Poland

The next day the Vernon Brothers together with Kostek Jakoniuk went to BielskPodlaski preaching and singing in.the area churches, and we together with LonekLewczuk visited the lonely and only church in Muratyn. Before the 2nd World War and immediately after the war there was a large congregation but later due to urbanization all young people moved to cities andonly few older people ramained in that village.Because the church is located far away from larger cities and any other congregations, they see seldom visitors. They were very happy to see us. We had wonderful fellowship with them in the house of the Lord.

From Muratyn we returned to Warsaw where we met the rest of the group whicharrived from USA: Ken Meade, Wayne Murphy, Gary Bordelon, Russ Brookhouse,DonStine and Max Lach.

Wednesday we had the evening service at Warsaw Pulawska Street Church of Christwhere Andrew Bajenski and Bronislaw Hury are ministering.Thursday we were divided into two groups and went two different directions:Vernon Brothers, Jack Ward and Gary Bordelon went to the South, Ken Meade, DonStine, Max Lach, Wayne >tirphy, Russ Brookhouse, myself and Dela went to theNorth-western part of Poland.

THE LAST MINUTE ADDITION:

Before this newsletter was given to the printer we heard the early morningnews about a coup in the Soviet Union. It was a surprise for everybody although many in the Soviet Union, especiallythe believers, were expressing their fears that their freedom will be shortlived. We must pray for the believers in the Soviet Union.

It is hard to describe the joy of fellowship with the precious Christian people in Poland who opened wide their homes and hearts for us who came from USA to be with them few weeks, to preach the Gospel, to share theirvictories for the Lord, and to see their work, needs and difficulties..

As I mentioned in the September issue of our newsletter, we were dividedinto 2 groups. One group visited churches in the South: Rybnik, Dabrowa Gornicza,Sosnowiecand Katowice; I and Dela with the other group went North West and North. We visited the newly established church in Zlotow, in Polczyn Zdroj and Ko-lobrzeg. on Saturday, I was asked to perform a marriage ceremony American style fora young couple. The ceremony alone lasted one hour and then the receptiontook another 5 hours.

On the Lord's Day, June 23rd, we had a glorious service at Kolobrzeg Churchand then ground braking ceremony for an extension to the sanctuary. In theafternoon of the same day we went to Bialogard for a dedication service ofthe newly errected Church building thanks to the contributions of FairfieldChurch of Christ, Lancaster, 0. and Polish Ministry. Bro. Thanks were expressed by the preacher for helping themto purchase and equip the church building.By the evening we were in Gdynia where we had the evening service and sawgreat progress in expanding facilities which will serve as additional smallChristian Service Camp and a place for retreats. From there we went to Os-troda where we met the Vernon Brother^ and our Southern group. Here in Os-troda they had at that time Married Couples Retreat and we took part in theservices and saw the old barn nicely adapted into a chapel with funds provided by Bro. George Bajenski and Global Radio Ministry.:In the evening we preached in: Lidzbark Warminski, Ostroda and in the Homefor Senior Citizens.

Wednesday night we took part in dedication service of the completely renovated church building in Olsztyn. A year ago that church had a big hole in

the ceiling what challenged Bro. Bill Smith, minister from Cumberland Churchto raise money to fix the hole and with additional help from Polish Ministrythe whole building took a new shape. It was a tear-moving service.

From Ostroda in full force we moved East - to Bielsk Podlaski. On thewaywevisited church in Ciechanow where we had a delicious dinner, stopped at Trem-blinka former Concentration Camp and by the evening, Thursday, we were inBielsk Podlaski.
