"forgotten men"

Attending National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Washington, D.C. lastJanuary I was impressed with the message entitled "Forgotten Men".The speaker developed his theme around chose who were gathered - the religioisbroadcasters - men who sit behind the microphones. People hear their messagebut they do not think about the messanger.How true that is. But it concerns not only the broadcasters. We can say thesame about Christian writers, translators, poets, compo.''ersPeople read and demand good articles, listen to messages in song or in wordand judge them by their contest but how seldom they think about the messanger,the one who puts his whole heart into the ministry!

But we thank God that we are not forgotten by God's people, who pray constantly for us and the work we do, who are concerned about our wellbeing and sharewith us the blessings of life.Not only your gifts toward our work speak loudly about your love, but yourprayers, your words of encouragement expressed in your letters, your interestin us and the message we preach.You remember also those faithful preachers in Poland who preach and win soulsfor Christ because of your love.

We seldom write in our newsletters about ourselves. We report about the workwe do.

But this time I would like to say few words about Bro. Winnik. He came to thiscountry 13 years ago at the age of 59 to work with us. For 13 years thisfaithful servant worked dilligently, many times not noticed by many of us.He had three heart attacks, but every tircs soon after recovery he was back atwork preparing radio messages, cassettes, answering letters, packing and sending out literature.January 30 th Bro. Winnik was hospitalized again, 2 days later - in intensi-

ve care. When I saw hu him Feb 1st I thought we lost Bro. Winnik for good. Weprayed like never before individually and as the church,and now there is hopethat Bro. Winnik will retur.n and work with us again /of course with a much easier load/.

We ask you to pray for Bro. Winnik that the Lord will restore his health and thathis smiling face will bring joy to many of us as he preaches the Word, especiallythrough the cassette ministry, so that manyjsouls in Poland will accept Lord Jezusas their personal Saviour. :

Once more we thank yuo that although we are forgotten by this world, we are notforgotten by YOU!

"I do not know how to begin writing this letter to you. I was not interested inreligion and this subject was far away from ray mind, and I was under the influence of other teachings. The other day, when we were having dinner, ray son, agefive, put a question to me: "How do we go to heaven?" and "What is God?" I didnot know what to tell him and he repeated these questions a few times. I thinkthere will be more of these questions in the future. On 29th of April, when Iput the radio on shortwave, your program was on and the message was about Godand heaven. I listened to the end because I had never heard before such an inte -resting subject. From that time I regularly listen to this program twice a weekand you are convincing me that I shoud change ny views about ny life, wife,son and I listen to your program together and we are very grateful for it. GREAT CELEBRATIONS

The months of May and June were crowded with great celebrations at the Slavic Church of Christ in Baltimore.

May 11th - Mother's Day, we had grant preaching and beautiful program presented by our young people.

May 18th - the 20th Anniversary of the Slavic Church was celebrated withgreat preaching by Bro. Kenneth Meade, minister of Manor Wood Church ofChrist, Rockville, Md. in English and Bro. John Berkuta in the Ukrainianlanguage.

June 15th - Father's Day - another beautiful program and great preaching.

June 22nd - Baptismal service where two precious souls were buried withChrist and rose to walk in the newness of life.

The Slavic CKurch of Christ was established by Bro. Bajko in 1960 with 10chertered members. Seven were present at the 20th Anniversary and were recognized by the church with flowers and special "greetings.

In the beginning the Slavic Church of Christ was meeting in private homes,later in rented facilities and in 1961 the first building was purchased inwhich we worshipped till 1972, when the present building much bigger andvery beautiful was purchased.

Adam Korenczuk was called as the first minister of the Slavic Church in

1961.

20th Anniversary Celebration at Slavic Church of Christ

The Department of Missions was supporting work in Baltimore till 1970. Since1970 the Church is self-supported.The Department of Missions began broadcasting the Gospel of Christ in 3 languages through Slavic Church in 1965 and the Church prolongs this broadcasttill the present time.

Slavic Church has o good choir, and many activities. At the present timeSlavic Church supports 5 mission projects in 5 different countries.

Bro. and Sister Bajko and Bro. and Sister Korenczuk were specially recognizedby the Church during the 20th Anniversary celebration.

We thank God for the Slavic Church of Christ which is witnessing to the Slavic people in the city of Baltimore and vicinity and we wish God's blessingupon all faithful people in the Church.

FROM THE FIELDS

The Department of Missions preaches the Gospel of Christ without ceasing.Every day the message is heard in many ways:

1. Many packages with Bibles and Christian literature are sent to hundreds ofpeople.

2. Over 100 messages in Word and song are taped on cassettes and sent out eachmonth.

3. The Gospel is beamed into Poland and other Eastern European countries 4 times a week through stations in Monte Carlo and Lisbon.

4. Polish magazine is published each month and sent to people in Poland, Cze -choslovakia, Germany, England, Belgium, France, Canada, Australia, Argentine,Paraguay and United States.

5. Hundreds of compiled and published by us songbooks are sent to churches inPoland and other countries.

6. This year one book translated from English into Polish was published with3000 copies and one pamphlet written by Bro. Ramsey was transtated into Polishand published.

7. The Christian Service Camp in Ostroda is expanding its facilities and fewchurches are in Che process of remodeling their houses of worship.

8. Many letters are written to radio listeners and to the people who inquireabout salvation.

9. Support is given to all faithful preachers in Poland so they can preach andwin soul for Christ.

10. Much traveling is done to churches to preach and lead mission programs.

All this work is done because of you, wonderful Christians, who pray and support us with your finances.We thank you very, very much and please continue to support us in this impor -tant and growing ministry.

Now I would like to share with you some news from Poland and other places.

Bro. Sacewicz from Warsaw writes :

young person who already decided to study for the ministry. This sunmer we willstart renovation of our chapel. At the elders and deacons meeting we raised22,000 zloty toward that purpose.Work of expanding the Camp in Ostroda is going on. Today I received permissionto buy 20 tons of cement. We thank you for your help."

WHAT A summer!

July 15th after an 11 hours long flight we landed in Honoluluwhere we attended the World Convention of Churches of Christ. —

It was a very good convention with lots of good preaching by Bro. F. D. Haggard, R.F. Blowers, Th. Benjamim, E. LeRoy Lawson and many others.There was great congregational singing and very good numbers by many choirsand the Brass Ensemble from Ozark Bible College.Very impresive was the final service with the Lord's Supper led by Bro. A.W. Lee, general secretary of the Convention. I prayed for the cup in Polishand English.

While in Hawaii we took one week of vacation - the only week this year.

We returned hnmp -Tiily ?Q. In two days I maneged to look through the correspondence, answered the most important letters, Dela did the l^ndry and onFriday Audust 1st, on my birthday, we were on our way to North Carolina forthe wedding of our son,.George who was married to a lovely girl August 2nd.After the wedding we immediately drove back and arrived home at 2 AM, and by9 AM I was already in the Boulevard Christian Church in Baltimore where Italked during the Sunday School about our Polish ministry and preached during the worship hour.

Another two hectic days and August 6th we wer.e on our .way to Poland.There we were met by several Christian Friends and for"5 days attended seminars for teachers.

Sunday August 10 I preached at the Warsaw Church of Christ and we had greatfellowship with many Christians.

Polish Ministers

August 15, 29 preachers from all over Poland came to Warsaw to meet with me.First we had a general meeting where we heard about the accomplishments, problems and the Ostroda Project. Then I had individual conversation with eachminister which lasted till midnight.Next day I went to Ostroda and Dela remained in Warsaw where she visited many homes. I

I .In Ostroda 1 saw the progress of the camg-j-building. The work is slow butI goes on. There I discussed the further'̂ '̂ b'gYe^s of the building and I was

/assured that by winter the building will be under the roof.( It is a big structure, bigger than I expected.

'- The progress is slow because of lack of building material.That day I also visited home for Senio^,CttizeT;s_in_Os.troda_,_had fellowshipwith Bro. Paul Wrobel and his family and then went to Olsztyn. Here I talkedwith Bro.Kobus, minister of the local church, till 1 AM and then preached atthe morning service and late in the evening returned to Warsaw.Next day August 18th e.a3J.v in the morningwd left Poland on oui^way back to the ^

'P ^It was good to be back to our wonderful country of America.

Here are my impressions about work in Poland:

1. Our ministers preach faithfully the Gospel and souls are won for Christ,

2. Many people are listening to our broadcasts from Monte Carlo and IBRAstations and there are visible results.

3. Literature which we publish is reaching the destination and peopleask for more.

4. All churches are united behind the Ostoda Project and send working teams there.

5. Preachers are very grateful for support which they receive throughthe Department of Missions so they can preach the Gospel freelywithout worrying about the support of their families.

Poland is open for the Gospel and nobody is interfering with the preaching.In Churches they have Sunday Schools for children. Youth meetings, revivalsand Rallies. They distribute literature freely.

Economy in Poland is..in_ a j)ad s.txape. The summer was rainy and very cold withmany floods and crops are ruined. There is visible shortage of many things.We have to come with more help to our Christian friends.Despite all that our brethren in Poland try to raise over 100,000.00 Zlotytoward Ostroda Project but according my estimation they will be short of a-

|nother 5-6s.-thoi^sand dollars to finish the building in Ostroda.We have to raise this ammount of money here and send them as soon as possible . they ~NEED- our HE LP!

For enlarging of some church buildings we need another 5 thousand dollars.

THERE IS AN J^MMEDIAIE NEED OF S 11,000.00.

We appeal to you in the name of the Lord to help us toraise this amount.

We know that you give sacrificially and we appreciate it andthank you. But I hope that we all realize , that we__are tt^e- mostb le^ ed,..pe op le on tji^s earth. The Lord is blessing all of us.

In comparison with other coutries we do not have any inflation.We do not pay over S 3.00 for a gallon of regular gasoline orS 5.00 for a pound of beef. Ou,x^rices a^e the lowest in theworld. We have everything.

THANKSGIVING CHRISTMAS

Thirty years ago I celebrated ray first Thanksgiving Day on the way to USA fromEurope and in December 1950 I landed in New York City.With great joy I looked at the Stature of Liberty and walked on free soil ofAmerica and then celebrated first Christmas in this great coutry of freedom.I thank God constantly for America, for American Christians who opened theirhearts and accepted me into great fellowship.

I th2[nk God that with your help I was able to become the messenger of Good Newsto my people here in USA and also in Poland.

With your prayers and finacial support weland, give them buildings, Christian Servre, Sunday School material and Songbooks.Because of you we preach on Radio, give support to 25 preachers, send medicineand clothing, visit churches in person and preach the Gos(>el. Also we thank Godthat we were able to start Slavic Churchi iof Christ in Baltimore.

The work is going on, growing with everyin this ministry.After 24 years of theaching at ECC I hadte entirely on mission work.Dela, my wife, is engaged from the beginning in translations of songs, articlesand books. She also writes articles and pand answers hundreds of letters. '

STEWARDSHIP AND ACCOUNTABILITY

We believe that there must be credibility at the Department of Missionsif our ministry is to continue to grow. We must demonstrate to you,our supporting Churches and friends, that we are good stewards of, andfaithfully account for, the monies you have entrusted to us for God'swork among the Polish speaking people.

For this reason, a Guidance Committee composed of twelve (12) menserves and meets each fall at the offices in Bel Air to carefully(and prayerfully) review and examine the prior years activities andfinancial results. Each of these men are either ministers or members(or both) of the Christian Church or Church of Christ and activelysupport the work of the Department of Missions. The members and theiraddresses are set forth below.

Under the leadership of Paul Bajko, tlr^e following policies are faithfullyadhered to:

1. Every decision is carefully reviewed to assure thebest stewardship of the monies expended. The leastexpensive method is selected^ even if it means extrawork, so long as the result is expected to be equallyas good.

2. Strong emphasis is placed upon the stewardship oftime realizing that there is much yet to be done

The Guidance Committee believesthat this audit is a necessity in order to show ourcontinued commitment to the faithful use of themonies for which we are accountable. We realizethat we are responsible not only to our supportingChurches and friends — but most of all, to our Lord.
