JERRY, JERRY, I screamed at the top ofmy voice. me! He was there like a

streak, but the lock on the living room door was stubborn. It seemed an eternity until it was opened and I threw the once beautiful, billowy but now blazZng Pompas grass from the vase on to the frontsteps. I stood there trembling...but thanked God our home was safelWhat had started out as my evening routine of lighting all the candles ended in a near devastating disaster. Guests were anticipatedwithin minutes.I had lit the candle as usual, on the mantle. A sparkmust have fallen from the match as I turned and SWISH- the wholebouquet was a flame. It may seem like an uneventful story, but to me

GLEANINGS WITH MEANINGS

..The holidays and another year are behind us. The old saying" Thehurrier I go the behinder I get" seems to describe me to a T.It can'tbe that I'm slowing down ..time just goes faster. We have paused andreflected back and there is only one statement we can make 1"God hasblessed us in an unbelieveable way and we are so full of gratitude andthanksgiving.Anything that has been accomplished has been done soBecause many of you have made our work possible, with your faithfulfinancial support and prayers. Were it NOT for this we would not behere. We truly always give God the Glory and thank Him for each of you.Our prayer for 1981 is that accomplishments for Him will be far greater ,our efforts blessed and oppoi-tunities discerned. We ask your pray-

_ers_on_jDLiir._behali for-Jiealth_,_ strength., and g:uidance andJihat wawill always stay true to His word. We are humbled because of your manykindnesses and love shown in jus't everyway, and sincerely say thank-youeach and everyone from the bottom of our hearts. We realize thissounds impersonal but a letter to each is impossible but this is assincere and full of tovz and thanks as any letter could be...We have read this statement numerous, times"When all is said and done-more is usually said than done I" A good thought for 1981 to help us keepon target don't you think?

MADDNES TO GLADNESS

...Our days have consisted of long hours of preparation of our scheduledtour. Scheduling does have its problems, but when we think we hit a snagit seemed each time the Lord takes over and things have worked out beautifully.

...Our greatest thrill has been the response to our work. It is encouragingthat others are seeing the need we see and feel, and are upholding us inprayers and financially. The letters that have come in have been full of encouragement, excitement and lots of questions, and that's GOOD. I want toanswer a vew that maybe everyone might have, and also clarify a statement.

.. .We called him "Nicholas," tho his name ^^^5was Mark. The Littlest Angel, youngest ofthree sons, of Gwen and Garry Ye^er,Owosso, Mich, reminded usin mannerism of • M,,little Nicholas on the T.V. program "Eight isEnough". Fascinated by the Motorhome he ^Lcame tearing up, when he saw the keys inmy hand as I entered the door. "Can 1 gotoo?", he said, jubilantly. I said, "I'm notgoing anywhere except backwards andforwards to put the motorhome on blocks to jlevel it, but you are sure welcome to comein." His beautiful huge blue eyes, toothlesssmile and impish face revealed his ecstasyofjust being in the motorhome as wemaneuvered our way upon the blocks! Markwas still childlike enough to enjoy the thrill of a ride of MAKEBELIEVE. Were we to return a few years from now, Mark'sgrowth and maturity would demand a real ride to get this samethrill! And then I thought, we are so much like this precious oneas I compared our relationship to Christ. The new life in Himleaves us in AWE—EXCITED—, but soon we know there is oh somuch more, and the only way to experience HIS love andblessings is a greater experience thru growth. As we grow wewould not be desirous to stay in the same spot. It is part ofGod's creation for us to seek knowledge. As naturally as ourphysical body demands food for growth, so does the spiritualbody (His Word). And so as little Mark will grow and come intoHis Lord; I can't helpbut think of 2nd Timothy 3:15 "And thatfrom childhood you have known the sacred writings which areable to give youthe wisdom that leads to salvation through faithwhich is in Christ Jesus'!.

Quoting a special friend "Your work sounds like a faiiytale", and that is whatit seems to us. LET's go back where I leftoff June 30, in Colorado. sleep. We were bathed, and lights out by 7:30 P. M. Sleep for allcame instantly. 8:30 — a piercing, frightening, sound! I satstraight up in bed. My thoughts: Where was I- what was thatAWFUL, scary shriek? Then I came to, enough and realized itwas a TORNADO warning. We had been ahead of the storm allday. NOW it was about HERE! I yelled at Jerry and Tim. TheT.V. said "Take precuations". How do you do that in a motelroom? No basement, nor could we crawl under the beds! From8:30 till 11:00, Jerry's and my eyes dropped open and thenshut as we sat on the floor-in front of the T.V. till the warningwas rescinded. Tim got pretty uneasy. Finally I said, "Tim, whosaid 'Lo, I am with you always even unto the end of thewoiid?"'. He said, "Jesus." Then I said, "Do you think He'dleave you now?". He firmly said no-laid down and slept thruthe night. This reminder helped us too!

... Next afternoon, arrived at Higginsville, Missouri, at the BertFitzgerel's home. From 1947 to 1950 Jerry ministered to theCedar Grove Church at Mayview, Missouri, while working on hisdegree from Kansas City Conservatory of Music. Being abachelor, many ladies mothered him. Years have seen manychanges, but still numerous people are there he loved. It was aJOYFUL reunion for him and an experience for Tim and I as wemet his friends, and we ALL made new ones. It's a farmingcommunity and 1 needn't elaborate on the tables ladened withfood at Sundays pot-luck. WOW! Our bodies rested so well atthe Bert Fitzgerel home. A picnic in the park on the 3rd; andJuly 4th, James Newlands, friends for all these many years, blessed us and the Fitzgerels with an "almost" Smorgasboard.Fabulous meal. Meeting the fine minister, Dan Lowrey, seeingthe growth of the church and all the memories broughtmist to

Jerry's eyes. Jerry taught the adult Bible School Class, Tiniplayed for worship service, and a dinner that even Thanksgivingcould not surpass, closed out the morning of July 5. Shortlyafter eating, everyone gathered for Tim's concert. After scurringback to the house and loading the car, we said our good-byesand headed on eastward at 3:45 P. M. Pocohontos, Illinois wasour stopping place, (not for long) and at 5:00 P. M. July 6t}i, wearrived at mothers in Canton, Ohio.

... July 7th. How lucky we were. Home in time for the picnicwith the Missionary group of the home Church. We were excitedand anxious to leave, as we soon were to see our beautiful

motorhome, "MELODY". And our eyes all but jumped out aswe beheld this beautiful assemblage of steel. You might say itwas a dream come true, except we NEVER dreamed of anythingso beautiful. A brief description ... Her lush rust and reddishspacious interior offer far more comfort than the Hilton. Thoshe is a 1979 JOURNEY - 29 foot, she is unmarred and spotlessinside and out!!! We had felt that God had blessed our work inevery way, except a motorhome! What was wrong? We had notmade the right connections but when we called Ohio, thingsbegan to lay in place. We have no words to express ourGRATITUDE for the blessings of Melody, and to our familyand the Church family for making this a reality and deliveringher to us.

... July 8. We came back to reality and had a newspaperinterview concerning Tim's concert to beheld Sunday, the 12th.A concert at Twin M Nursing Home, securing title andmotorhome, hcense, shopping for and packing motorhome, practice (this Jerry does with Tim nearly daily), filled the weekand brought us to Sunday, July 12. And this was such aSPECIAL DAY! Spent it with my home Church (NortliIndustry Christian). In the A.M. we presented our work duringBible School. Jerry and I sang for Worship Service. Afterservices we enjoyed dinner with some especially close friends, and family, at a lovely restaurant. Preparation for the evening'sconcert took care of tlie short aftemoon, and it was soonconcert time! It proved to be a tremendous experience for us.The large crowd was made up in part by many, many friendsand relatives we had not seen in years - some since I left homeafter high school graduation! It seemed unreal to me.Exhilarating, joyous, start the description. We closed tldsbeautiful day reminiscing at "Milk and Honey" ice cream parlortrying to fill up Tim, and letting him know there wascause forcelebration of a job well done.

STIMULATING EXHILARATING

.. .Something really UNEXPECTED was now occupying ourtime. Before we left El Paso - President Reagan had been sent aletter requesting that Tim get to meet him. The Association ofRetarded Citizens and others worked on this on behalf of dieInternational Year of the Disabled Person. Tim had also writtena letter saying he "sure hoped he could see him." It is not

possible to describe our problems with the mail, but for nearlyone month we received NOTHING! Not knowing if a date wasgiven us, or how to find out we called Ohio's CongressmanRalph S. Regula's office. A sweet voice said, "We'll surely findout." Before long she called back saying the President would beleaving for Canada, but that they wondered if Tim would playon the White House Lawn. She said the White House would be

calling. Their call followed witliin minutes. I said, "Tim wouldbe thrilled to play." We did NOT discuss length of time. I justassumed a song or two. Further talk revealed he was scheduledfor an hours concert! Various concerts are givenon the ELLIPSEas people await their turn to tour the White House. I soon couldsee the Lord at work. She told me this was the LAST concert of

the season and it was the ONLY time we could be there. I could

hardly believe what I was hearing. We felt certain Tim couldhandle most concerts BUT this would be no place to BLOW IT!Family, friends, relatives and neighbors were in a tizzy. Thephone rang itself off the hook. T. V., Radio, and Newspaperswanted interviews. It was WILD. The days of July 13—16 willbe unforgettably joyous memories. Besides the hustle and bustleof the preparation for the Washington trip, I could not have atrip home and neglect the usual luncheon get together withfriends of high school days, instigated by EileenWilliams. Suchfun. Same evening we shared vittles with College roommatesAlice Wiener and Ruth Borton, and their husbands at Alice andPaul's home. Time was running out to finish stocking needs forthe motorhome so the six of us hastened over to a discountstore and that trip ended our search for supplies.... Next day,July 15, included stocking refrigerator and cupboards. Atrip toCanton to tape a 3 part radio interview with a preciousinterviewer "Sheriy Lee". We have a new friend in Sherry andher response was soenthusiastic to ourefforts. Family, relatives, and friends gathered throughout the evening to see "Melody"and wish us well in D.C.

... A. M. July 16, arrived so quickly. We left with our beingsTOTALLY in the Lord's hands. Jerry had hoped to becomeWELL acquainted with Melody, but the fast pace of activitiesfound departure time with about 15 miles of experience behindthe wheel! From a Citation to a 29 foot motorhome there is abit of a difference! But again, we knew our mission was for HIM- HE'D see us thru. Evening was coming, our destination wascircled in the tour book. Ah! directions and road signs justdidn't coincide! Something wrong. We finally took a ramp off, pulled into a gas station and as Jerry took care of Melody'sthirst I asked the station manager where the closest R. V. parkwas. He said, "Right next door." It was the very destinationcircled in the tour book. Street signs were down and streetsclosed because of repair but there we were! AGAIN, "LO, I AMWITH YOU ALWAYS!"

...July 17 - up and away by 6:30 arriving at Rockville,Maryland, Church of Christ at Manor Woods. Minister KennethMeade was so helpful in ^ving explicit instructions toCherryhills Camp City, our location while in D.C. The piano atthe church afforded some practice and then we successfullyarrived at camp. By noon we were set up and had a quick lunch.Hurriedly we changed clothes and set out for the bus. Ourconnection to the right metro subway was easy and in minuteswe experienced the thrill of viewing our nations capitol, seeingwhat we had seen in pictures all these years. With pounding

hearts, overwhelmed by reality, we walked on to the Raybumbuilding where we were greeted first by Congressman RalphRegula's staff and then to Congressman Richard White's office(Texas). The secretaries in both of these officeswere just super. We could not have been treated more warmly or graciously.Congressman Regula was unable to be there and asked that wereturn Monday. Congressman White soon came, and asked if hecould give us a guided tour of the Capitol! This made it all somuch more meaningful. Tim was ecstatic as we rode theexecutives subway over to the Capitol. Congressman Whitereinforced our feeling of thee Greatness of Texas with hiscongenial manner and enlightening tour. We SAT in thespeaker's chair of the HOUSE. The Senate was still meeting sowe audited the session for awhile. Senators Hart, Patterson andKennedy were speaking. Stomachs wereempty —so before Timcollapsed, we found our way to the Senate Restaurant. Adelicious meal included some of the famous BEAN SOUP thisrestaurant is well known for. Our afternoon came to a close aswe sauntered to the metro. A reunion then took place! Mycousin, Dale Brechbuhler, whom I had not seen since about1945 lives in Crofton, Md. (suburb of D.C.). He came over tothe motorhome and we had a wonderful visit.

... July 18th the ANTICIPATED DAY came all too soon. Ourbeings didn't seem anxious to move! At 8:00 A. M.Dalepickedus up and we drove to the metro, parked his car and we tookthe subway. What was to be a rainy day was sunny and bright! The Lord knewwehad no umbrellas and a seemingly impossibleaccomplishment was to get Timdowntown (on the subway) in amint green and white tuxedo, without getting dirty (and Iprayed) or getting wet. AMAZING, mission accomplished going, but coming back, he rubbed against grease. It didn't matterthen! We arrivedat the area for the concert, and as we viewed it,Jerry's and my stomachs turned a "flip flop". The distance fromthe stage to where the audience sat was great. Tim performs athis BEST when he feels the audience's response and can seethem. This would not be the case today! The best position forall the crowd to see him was for the piano to be center stagedand his back to them. Concerts were held on what they call the"Ellipse". Tourists are seated on the bleachers under largecanopies while they await their tour thru the White House. Thecanopies were nearly full —we judged about 1500 or so people. The attendants in charge were busily setting things up and allwas ready for testing the sound. WHAT A SHOCK!!! Systemwas dead. If it didn't work the concert would be cancelled asthe expanse was so great the sound would not carry. Time wasdrawing near and I told Tim it looked hopeless. He said, "Idon't think so Mom, you pray. Tm praying." About 5 minutesbefore time to start the LORD and the TECHNICIAN were ableto get it repaired!!! Excitedabout Tim and what we were doing, the young man introduced us, and asked that we explain ourwork. We never dreamed of being able to stand before thethrong of people and tell of our work, briefly, and what theLord meant to us!Jerry armounced the program in sections andthe first was "The Patriotic" series. Our fears subsided aboutTim's rapport with the audience as he came down on thekeyboard playing "AMERICA" and the other spine chillingsongs that honor our country. Those fears turned into tears ofjoy. There are many times music moves one to tears butemotionally we were spent, as we realized ALL the wonderful .

things God had done to make this dream a reality. As he playedhis heart out, numerous people ran up taking pictures butNOTHING bothered Tim, his heart was filled with joy and hesurely didn't "blow it" as Dad and I had feared. Yes, Tim hadmade a bit of history being the first mentally handicappedpianist to give a concert on the White House Lawn (we weretold), but more important was the witnesshe projected thru hisfingers. The concert was over, the applause echoed loudly. Wehad a brief time for congratulations and then the sweet (andTim said pretty) young attendant took us to the group we wereto tour the White House with. As we entered the East Room,Tim's eyes instantly beheld the magnificent Steinway grandpiano with gilt American Eagle supports. "Can't I PLEASE playit?" he said. "They should have had it out on the Ellipse!" Weonly wished we had days to roam thru this beautiful symbol ofour cultural heritage. However, as the day wore on - we woreout. Dale had chaperoned us and led the way back to thesubway and this weary feeling was overshadowed with pleasantmemories of the Smithsonian Institute. We grabbed a bit ofrelaxation and then Dale took us to hislovely home for a superdinner he had prepared of Mexican food. Tim felt this was trulyheaven. He has MISSED Mexican food so much.

. .. Sunday 19th we wordiipped with the Church of Christ atManor Woods, Rockville, Md. and Tim played. A tremendousmessage by minister Kenneth Meade.

... Monday, 20tli, downtown again. Toured the Library ofCongress, Botanical Gardens, (I could have set up housekeepingthere, it was so beautiful) and National Air and SpaceMuseum. We were invited back to Congressman Ralph Regula's (Ohio)office that aftemoon. What a pleasant time we had! We felt theyhad been our friends for years. When we left, we had picturestaken with Mr. Regula on the Capitol steps. Tim is anxious tohang this and his certificate he will receive from PresidentReagan for playing. He was given numerous books and othermemorabilia which are priceless, not in value (since Tim haslittle concept of money) but with meaning. We felt a tinge ofmelancholy as we rode the subway back and got our bus to thecampground. The experience that came to us out of the bluehad been perfect from the beginning to the end. All that wecould think of was, "This is the day which the Lord hath made;Let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24. We did ... wedid!

It was late on our arrival home to CampCity. Laundry HADtobe done. I said to Jerry, "Supper or laundry first? If I sit down,I mi^t not get up!" "Me too," he said. We truged off to theLaundromat. We did our thing and as we came out the sky wasPITCH BLACK. We hastened to the motorhome and almost asquickly as the door was closed the lightening, thunder and rainbroke loose. We felt almost a kin in this situation to Noah.Rained all night. Such timing! Again ... "LO, I AM WITHYOUALWAYS!!"

JOURNEY CONTINUES

... July 21 we headed to Virginia and soon were visiting withBill Sleasman, minister of First Christian Church inCharlottsville. We arrived in time for a Sunday School picnic, and thought, "How luclq' can you get". Weloved Charlottsvilleand the beautiful old church (one of the most historic churchesin America) begun in 1835 as a result of Alexander Campbell's

-3-

preaching. Several days of concentratedpractice followed and aconcert on the 23rd. As we drove up to the Church, a strangerto the minister was waiting. To our surprise a T. V. station 75miles away sent a reporter to tape the concert. An excellentcrowd, this added incentive, and a lovely grand piano, allchallenged Tim to give it all he had. He DID. Our campsite herewas on beautiful Lake Reynovia. This added pleasure made iteven more difficult to leave. The Sleasmans, church secretarj'Roxie Clark, and numerous others certainly gave us the REDCarpet treatment! We viewed the news the next night andthanked God that He could use Tim in this way.

- PLAYING AT WHITE HOUSE WAS EXCITBM' UNTIL! ~

... Pressed on, July 25th, to Martin, Kentucky. Our hosts wereNadine and Cecil Conley. We were appreciative of their welcomereception. An added bonus was seeing John Paul, and BillieBiliter and children Liz and Becky, our friends from El Paso;who were houseguesti of the Conleys. Jerry and I sang and Timplayed a preview of the concert in the A.M. service. It was aresponsive, exciting concert in the evening service, and the dayended with food and fellowship with a group at a nicerestaurant.

... July 27 was a day to site-see, and Billie, Jerry and I drove toJenny Wiley Lake. Oh, how beautiful! This was truly a REDletter day for Tim. Cecil was a yard foreman on the railroad andhe arranged to take Tim and Jerry for a ride in a diesellocomotive that afternoon. I was afraid Tim just might be off tothe moon, he was so excited. Without a doubt this rated as highas playing at the White House. The eveing was spent visiting, andwe also enjoyed the company of the minister, Roger Madden, and his wife, Norene.

—Well EVERYONE has his ups and DOWNS!—

... Off again and the southern hospitality continued to displayitself. We arrive at Barboursville, West Vii^nia. The hospitableand gracious minister and his wife, Walter and Vema Brewer (ofthe Farmdale Church of Christ), handled with ease our everyneed This was our spot for several days and, since we were rightby the church and a grand piano, Tim was eager to practice. This church will probably remember Tim for a long while. Thegorgeous piano was not angled to tlie advantage of the audience

to see Tim's hands (and feet where possible) so the men movedit. The concert began and the first number wasplayed; Tim wastoo close to the piano, so he pushed the bench backgently! Thebench went off the platform!! Jerry rescued it-and it'scontents. Somehow Tim shot straight up in the air (as if he wereon a spring) and turning graciously to the stunned audience hesaid, "Oh, that's just part of my act." The people roared - andfor Tim—it was on with the show. Had this happened to Jerryand me, we would have had to leave the platform and gainour composure.

MORE HAPPY-NINGS

... Next evening it was a concert at Howell's Mill Run ChristianAssembly for the Junior Hi Week. It was a great experience andtho the piano was sorely in need of repair, Tim said he'd love toplay "Honky Tonk" and the kids accepted that wholeheartedly. We all enjoyed watermelon after.

... We relished a few, so to speak, FREE days to catch up!Sunday, August 2, we were witli the 6th Avenue Church ofChrist in Huntington, West Virginia. It was only 8 miles fromBarboursville so we stayed parked where we had been all week.We became friends with the minister and his wife, Wiley andMargaret Godfrey, and their children. Followingan inspirationalworship service, we lunched with the Godfreys, and thenhurried back to tlie Church for the aftemoon concert. Manyfrom Barboursville came to tliis one too. I believe it was just tosee if Tim would gjve the added performance of falUng off theplatform. He didn't! At the evening service in Barboursville Timgave another Mini • concert. We had a pleasant surpriseafter the evening service. We were driven back to the camp tosee some dear friends, Connie and Bobbie Duncan, formerly ofEl Paso. Tho the visit was short, it was adequate to renewfriendship. What a wonderful day and how welcome the bedfelt!

... Back to Canton to Mother's - four days with family, relatives, and friends. Sunday, the 9th, up at wee hour anddown to Columbus, Ohio to the Indianola Church of Christ. Ithad been YEARS since I had seen Edna Reed Walker. We were

dorm mates at Cincinnati Bible College. It was difficult to greeton the parking lot of the Church and go into worsliip servicesand sit quietly (no talking) but we did! (Wonders never cease)Tim was sitting between us. A pleasant noon meal andaftemoon with Edna and Jim, her husband, enabled us to catchup on the many happenings of times past. It was truly "oldhome week" that night. Besides seeing Edna and Jim, a dearfriend of our family, thru the years, came to me and said,"Rosemary, you don't know me, do you?" I said, "No, I amsorry." Her name was Irene Fuller, and her son (now Dr.Raymond Fuller of Grand Rapids, Michigan) and I wereschoolmates! Martha Evans Nielsen, a teacher for many years inthe high school where we kids attended came. Also my cousin(last seen when Tim was in arms) Norma Jean and husband CarlSteigerwald came. One of my five favorite nephews (on my sideof the family) who just happens to be tall, good-looking, single!ind ail that-namely Jim Brechbuhler-was there. Jim isattending Ohio State University in Columbus. Others from theCanton area made themselves known. Another well attended

and well received concert. A hamburger at Wendy's with Jimand Edna, the drive home and then to bed at 2:00 A.M.

... Monday, August 10th, a radio interview with Sherry Leeagain, telling of the trip to the White House and numerous otherhappenings.

... Tuesday, the Uth, we were on our way to Michigan, arrivingthe afternoon of the 12th at Owosso. It was wonderful to be

with friends of many years, Garry and Gwen Yeager. Gwen tookus, that evening, to the West Lansing Church of Christ. Tho anew church to us, the minister, William Horton, and his wife didnot leave us feeling as strangers long. There were "old time"friends here too! IN FACT - some very special people. E. L. andDa Russell from Breckenridge, Michigan, drove over to hearTim. E. L. performed our wedding all those years ago, and ofthem, all I can say is they are, "Sweeter as the Years Roll By!"Also coming and surprising us were Dorothy and Harry Ropp.Did not realize they were in the area. The West Lansing Churchhas begun special work now with the mentally handicapped. They will be much in our prayers and ask that you rememberthem also.

... Next day a concert for the A. R. C. and time of visiting.Feel this was a very beneficial time to some other parents ofmentally handicapped children. We were in for a lot of surprisesin Michigan and one was when Gwen told me, "Your friend SueKarnes is here!" I could not remember a Sue Kames—I knew

her by Dottie Sue Ellis. We were both in church camp andcollege together. She's STILL "sweet Sue", even 40 years laterl

... August 14, a T. V. Station from Flint, Michigan, came tothe First Church of Christ, Owosso, where Tim would be in

concert on Sunday evening the 16th. This was really a FUNinterview. It was to have been shown that night but for somereason it was postponed until Monday (didn't help advertise theconcert, but was nice).

... Sunday, the 16th, was a GREAT day! Tim played a Mini -concert before the worship service at the Owosso Church. Heand Jerry then went in the "King's Treasures" group. This is agroup of handicapped (many mentally) adults, who have theirown service. This church is a real example of our outreach anddream for many other churches. During their own service Timplayed — they had a very outstanding lesson and then coffeeand cookies, etc. The sponsors of the group are exceptional, loving, caring people. Their efforts SHOWvery positive results. The WHOLE church loves the King's Treasures and respond. They purchased a lovely van to transport them to servicesmorning and evening. The group wanted to have a dinner forTim. That they did, and a fantastic table of food was spreadafter the morning services. We have shared in many a deliciousmeal across this country, but to us, this was one of the greatest.Evening came and concert time. The people really labored atinviting, but ALL were overwhelmed at the crowd. Tim was inthe center on a raised platform, his back to some of theaudience. He turned around and smiled and said, "I sure do wishtills platform would revolve so I could see you, too." It wassimply a super great blessing to us being there.

... And it was time to go home to Canton (we thought). August17, Darlene and Lynn Brown and son Bob (from the OwossoChurch) wanted Tim for the DAY! So she came for him andthey made this deal: If he would play the piano all day longshe'd feed him. Well, she got the short end of the deal, I amsure, but Tim sure had a fun time, and she also fed dad and me

that ni^t. What a B.B.Q. Staying over gave us the opportunityto see the T. V. program that eveningtoo.

... The 18th—back to Canton.

... And the 19th we were privileged to have a T. V. interviewon W E W S in Cleveland, Ohio, Channel 5. Tim played a songand Jerry and I had about a 6 minute interview. This program is

called TALENT SHOWCASE and wUl be aired February 28,1982, at 12:00 Noon (Sunday). This interview came about as aresult of the radio interview with "Sherry Lee". Tim closed theprogram playing a song and this station very GENEROUSLYtold about my book!

... 20th thru 22nd at home with family, and catching up onoffice work (well, at least trying). Included were lots of preciousvisits with our friends and relatives. Many came to see"Melody".

... August 23, Sunday was another day of activity and full ofjoy. We had an early morning concert at tlie Trinity Church ofthe Brethem, minister -• Herb Fisher. Tim does not function hisbest early, but amazingly, he was awake and in gear! Lunch wasin Canton — and then on to the Canton Christian Home for

afternoon church services for the residents, and a concert. Timplayed for the service, we told briefly what we were doing, andthe concert was on. From there, we went to my brother Clyde'sfor a cookout. The phone rang My sister —in —law Wandawas talking to her sister Myra; she and her husband, TomDutton, had been unable to hear Tim, and the same was true ofMrs. Ralph (Mary) Regula (Congressman's wife) who missed theWashington, D. C., concert. Tliey were hopeful of a concertsomeplace that evening. The end result — back to tlie CantonChristian Home to use the piano. Tim played from 8:30 tillnearly 10:00. Many of the residents came back in. We all saidour good-byes and have such nice memories of that day, andthat evening. Tim has adoped Mary as an Aunt.

... August 24, making ready for our departure.

WHEN WE COME TO THE END OF THE ROAD

Destination is H O M E !

.. .August 25, it was the last good-bye for awhile, as we leftOhio. Couldn't leave, tho, without coffee and donuts with mysister - in • law, Betty, and Mother, as we were leaving town.

Brother Wayne was running around a few places trying to findus, but maybe next time he'll know his sister is aDONUTHOLIC! Mom and Betty went home and we headed forpoints west.

... And on August 28 we arrived in Dallas. Enjoyed a brief visitwith Dorothy and Bill Morgan. Many years have gone by sincewe had seen my nephew, Gary Brechbuhler, his wife Kathy, andchildren, of Allen, Texas. We sandwiched in a REAL reunion onSaturday. Then Saturday evening an anniversary dinner was fun—honoring Dorothy and Bill's 30th. Their daughter and son - in- law, Bev and John Hack, & our family had dinner with them.

... Anxious we were to rev Melody up and start the last 700miles of the trip, and it was ALL IN TEXAS. So after Sundayworship and a potluck dinner at the Clearview Christian Church, where Bill ministers, this we did. About 200 miles from homethe mountains began to show in the far distance across tli3flatlahds. They did look GOOD. Soon we left Hwy. 20 and were

-5-

on HO, our last Interstate, and at 11:30 A.M. it waS HomeSweet Home.
