This year beam! is playing host to two exciting international theatre companies who will perform shows for young people and their families.

colours of waterLa Barraca (Italy) 6 July - 11.30am - 12.15pmLincoln Drill Hall - The Room Upstairs Suitable age 1-4 years / £5
Water came with the rain and the hidden garden was suddenly brought into life. Fountains and basins were filled. Fruit, leaves, trees and plants have dusted off their colours and the rainbow appeared high up in the sky. In the middle of the hidden garden, there is someone who is looking for water. The yellow of corn, the deep red of tomatoes, the purple of flowers...
“Colours of water” is a play made of lights, sounds, images and movements, where words fade into the background to accompany the action.

Workshop based on the Brothers GrimmHansel and Gretel. Join us in a creative afternoon inspired by the much-loved traditional story. Activities will involve drama, craft, including making your own sweet house, games, and pebble art. www.storybookdays.co.uk

Dwayne Hayden – PA Derby-based ‘The Trinity Band’ made it through to the semi-final of Sky’s Must Be The Music. The group impressed judges Dizzee Rascal, Sharleen Spiteri and Jamie Cullum to secure their place amongst the 15 shortlisted acts. The workshop uses as its starting point the work of Rankin. Synonymous with dynamic and intimate portraiture, the photographer Rankin has shot everyone from royalty to refugees. Earning a reputation for capturing the character and spirit of his subjects, Rankin quickly became a formidable force in photography, shooting Brit-pop bands including Pulp and Blur and darlings of pop such as Kylie and Madonna.
Lincolnshire-based photographer Andy Weekes works across the globe. His work has been seen in top end magazines and high-powered marketing campaigns. Andy leads today’s practical workshop. Bring a camera if you have one!

Various locations across Lincolnshire
Igniting Ambition Festival 2011 – Connecting Communities showcases a diverse range of projects that are being delivered across the three counties of Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland (of which beam! International 2011 is one). It is the fourth annual showcase created in the region for the Cultural Olympiad in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Lincolnshire Showcase introduces a number of new exciting projects such Unlocking the City, KNIT2GETHER, Dark Materials, Moving Colour, Lincoln Hay Day, Lincolnshire Poet Laureate and SaFire Festival.
It will inspire artists to create new and ambitious projects and includes activities in unusual spaces. Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland are home to a diverse range of landscapes and communities, with a wealth of cultural practitioner companies, cultural institutions and festival activities. The partnership, which in Lincolnshire has been managed by creative consultancy cultural solutions UK, has invested in productions which demonstrate innovation, entrepreneurship and excellence and make connections across the three counties. Igniting Ambition Festival 2011 will provide new opportunities for local communities to participate, engage in and enjoy events. It will put the three counties and the East Midlands region firmly on the map as a key contributor to the UK Cultural Olympiad, inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
