RESOURCES and LAYOUT
Equipment should be available and functional for the purpose of the PAT, see Table 2.

Personnel needed:
• One administrator to facilitate and administered the PAT to ensure compliant with established
guidelines and acts as a Safety Officer.
• At least EMS personnel to assist with PAT process.

PROCEDURE
1. A signed copy of the "Applicant Waiver of Claim of Injury," attachment A, by the candidate must
be present before the start of the PAT.
2. Instruction of the PAT and its components will be presented to the candidate. Candidate may
request for any clarification as it relates to the PAT and its components at this time.
a. Review of PAT Evaluation Sheet, see attachment B.
b. Walk-through of the PAT (pointing out each event).
3. Pre-test medical screening will be assessed and candidate must satisfied the following vital signs:
a. Systolic blood pressure must be between 90-180 mm Hg and diastolic< 110 mm Hg.
b. Pulse rate must between 55 -140
c. Pulse oximeter at room air must be greater than 95% 02 saturation.
4. Candidate will be seated in the driver seat of the ambulance. Upon the acknowledgement from
the evaluator, the candidate will exit the ambulance. Time will commenced once the driver's
door is opened.
5. For each event, the evaluator will follow the candidate and record the results on the PAT
Evaluation Sheet.
6. For events involving the stairs, a spotter will be required:
a. to assist in relieving the barbell when the candidate can no longer continue
b. to monitor and guide candidate as a back-spotter
7. Safety is top priority. In the event there is a safety concern, the PAT will be STOP immediately.
8. Candidate will be allotted seven (7) minutes to complete the PAT.

9 Loading Stretcher Maneuver through 50ft obstacle course. Load the stretcher in the
unit with an assistance to lift and raise the carriage.
10 Ambulance Side Entry Step up into the patient compartment through the side door and
sit on the captain seat.
NOTE: Time stops when applicant sits.
Safety Warnings include, but not limited to, the following: • Improper lifting technique -failure to lift with legs
• Improper body technique-twisting at the waist
• Improper carrying technique -carrying equipment away from the body
