Beef is the culinary name for meat from bovines, especially cattle. Beef can be harvested from cows, bulls, heifers or steers. Acceptability as a food source varies in different parts of the world.

Cattle raised for beef may be allowed to roam free on grasslands, or may be confined at some stage in pens as part of a large feeding operation called a ,where they are usually fed a ration of grain, protein, roughage and a vitamin/mineral preblend.

Introduction

Page 4: Beef

The flesh of a cow, bull, or ox, used as food.Beef is the third most widely consumed meat in the world,

accounting for about 25% of meat production worldwide, after pork and poultry at 38% and 30% respectively.[1]

In absolute numbers, the United States, Brazil, and the People's Republic of China are the world's three largest consumers of beef.

On a per capita basis in 2009, Argentines ate the most beef at 64.6 kg per person; people in the US ate 40.2 kg, while those in the EU ate 16.9 kg.[2]

The world's largest exporters of beef are Brazil, India, Australia and the United States in that order (in 2014).[3] Beef production is also important to the economies of Uruguay, Canada, Paraguay, Mexico, Argentina, Belarus and Nicaragua.

What is beef ? What is its value today?

Page 5: Beef

Anyone who enjoys food will love beef, to the point that they will be addicted to it. Those who often eat this are strong and healthy in general.

Colon cancer is reduced because the meat has the capacity to pass on a lot of vitamin B12.

Organic beef is rich in zinc and selenium. Zinc is the mineral that helps reinforce the blood vessels and assist the immune system in functioning properly.

For those who are obsessed with maintaining their cardiovascular system for a long time should definitely eat beef, because ample amounts of the meat will help minimize the risk of acquiring heart disease.

The best cuts of beef to consume for this instance are from cows that eat grass, because they contain a lot of Omega-3 fatty acids. This chemical will help monitor the blood cholesterol in the body.

Advantages of Eating Beef

Page 6: Beef

Avoid eating beef that is filled with saturated fats because risk of getting colon or rectum cancer may be greater. Finally, beef that has not been cooked properly will be prone to germs and viruses that cause certain diseases.

The huge amount of beef that we consume, in combination with the usual side-orders of other fatty foods and caffeine and refined sugars appears to be one of the major causes of obesity

Beef production is the major cause of the destruction of the world's rainforests. The high price of beef encourages ranchers to burn the forest to create new rangelands.

Beef can harbor a deadly new germ, called e. coli O157:H7. This new germ is now a major cause of serious food poisoning. So far it has and sickened thousands people .

Disadvantages

Page 7: Beef

Most Hindus consider killing cattle and eating beef a sin. Bovines have been highly revered as sacred to mankind in Indian culture due to the critical role of cattle, especially cows, as a source of milk, and dairy products, and their relative importance to the pastoral Vedic people allowed this special status; and this rose to prominence with the advent of the Jain tradition and Hindu Golden-age during the Gupta period. The slaughter of cattle has been likened to the matricide in these cultures, due to the idealization of the cow providing milk and sustenance for society. Cow's milk is again used as curd, butter, cheese, milk sweets and a wide range of other items.

Religious prohibitions

In Hinduism, the cow is a symbol of wealth, strength, abundance, selfless giving and full of earthly life.

Cows are consider mother of GOD’S and are worshiped in India…….

Cattle slaughter in India is a historically taboo subject[1] because of the cow's traditional status as a sacred animal in Hinduism, the largest religion in the country.

Dairy products are extensively used in Hindu culture and are one of the most essential nutritional components of Hindu meals. On October 26, 2005, the Supreme Court of India, in a landmark judgment upheld the constitutional validity of anti-cow slaughter laws enacted by different state governments in India.24 out of 29 states in India currently have various regulations prohibiting either the slaughter or sale of cows.

Several states of India imposes various types of prohibition on beef. Maharashtra bans any form of selling and consumption of beef. Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act passed in 1976 prohibits slaughtering cows, which was amended in 1995 to include bulls and bullocks. Violation of this act is punishable with up to five years imprisonment and 10000 (US$160) fine. In 2015 this law was signed into law by presidential assent.

Gujarat passed the Animal Preservation Act in October 2011 that prohibits killing of cows along with buying, selling and transport of beef.

Status of beef in India

Page 13: Beef

Orissa and Andhra Pradesh states allow butchering of cattle other than cows if the animal carries a "fit-for-slaughter" certificate.

However, in West Bengal, Kerala, Goa, etc. consumption of beef is not deemed an offence. Many people of Kerala and Goa consume beef. Most of the exported "beef" from India is water buffalo meat; water buffalo are not usually considered holy in Hinduism.

The decision to extend ban on cow slaughter to bulls and bullocks in Maharashtra by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is getting stern opposition from its allies. The Republican Party of India (RPI) led by Rajya Sabha MP Ramdas Athawale on Saturday announced a state wide agitation against the government’s decision, claiming the new ban will harm the interests of thousands of people.

“We know that we are in alliance with the BJP, but the recent decision will not do any good to the thousands of people across the state. We have decided to launch state-wide agitation from May 19,” said Mr. Athawale in Mumbai.

He added that his party does not oppose the old law of 1976 which bans the slaughter of cows, since it is considered sacred in Hindu religion. “But the extension of it to bulls and bullocks will put livelihoods of cobblers in jeopardy. Even the farmers will have to bear the financial loss. The Qureishi community too is likely to get affected,” he said Mr. Athawale has asked the government to reconsider the decision and said that the agitation will intensify if the decision is not retreated.

Several State Governments and Union Territories (UTs) have enacted cattle preservation laws in one form or the other. Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Lakshadweep have no legislation. All other states/UTs have enacted legislation to prevent the slaughter of cow and its progeny.

Maharashtra beef ban: We are making a beginning, The BJP government in Maharashtra, which justified the ban on slaughter of cows in the Bombay High Court, on Monday told a two-member bench that it is “making a beginning” and “may consider” a move to ban slaughter of goats as well.Cow slaughter has been banned for several decades in most of the states with a few exceptions like Kerala and some of the seven sisters. In-fact, even beef (cow or other cattle) is banned in several states

We worship cows like goddess and on the hand we kill them . Therefore we would say the slaughter of cows should be banned all over the world as they provide us healthy product milk which keep us fit and energetic. So we would conclude by saying stop killing of cows just for our desire .
