WELCOME BACK Term 4 is shaping up to be another wonderful term full of exciting learning opportunities for the children. We are looking forward to performing in the School Play, a new sporting program and all of our end of year activities. We also have some new faces to welcome to our school community:
• Ricky and Mark Garard will be joining us as our new General Assistants
• The Earl family and their children Riley and Hayden • The Van Bentum family and their children Sam and Lily
We hope they enjoy their time with us and settle in quickly. SCHOOL GROUNDS IN THE HOLIDAYS It was lovely to return to school this week with the grounds looking so cared for and well maintained. We were very fortunate to receive support from the Berrima Correctional Centre and we would like to sincerely thank them for their help. Kimo, John, Mark and Ricky worked tirelessly alongside the team and achieved great results. HOCKEY PROGRAM Late last term we received the great news that we were successful in gaining a Schools Sporting Grant. Starting this Friday, the students in Year 2-6 will be involved in hockey coaching sessions with Paul Schofield. These sessions will run for 7 weeks in the following timeslots:
• 9-10am Year 5/6 • 10-11am Year 4/5 • 11.30-12.15pm Year 3/4 • 12.15-1pm Year 2
All equipment will be provided, please make sure your child is in their sports uniform with appropriate shoes.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES After school activities A friendly reminder that we are going to post EVERY Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning at approximately 9.00am as to whether the after school activity is ON or OFF. We are suggesting that parents check Skoolbag the morning of their child’s activity so that we can minimise any confusion. ZEN OASIS
A huge thank-you to the children and their parents who gave up their time in the first weekend of the holidays to perform at Zen Oasis’ Spring Fair. The children performed beautifully, and their efforts were much appreciated by the staff and stallholders at the fair. These performances would not be possible without the dedication of Miss Jones and Ms Barnes and we sincerely thank them for their support.
CELEBRATING OUR SUCCESS ~ Berry Interschool Championships This week we congratulate Olivia and Matthew on their outstanding performances at the Berry Interschool Championships
• Olivia was the K-6 All Schools (Independent, Catholic and Public) Reserve Champion in Showjumping
• Matthew was the All Schools Kindergarten Reserve Champion. What a great effort! Look at all of their ribbons! EXTERNAL VALIDATION The staff are currently working very hard to complete our report for External Validation, due October 23. We have spent quite a bit of time analysing a wide range of information and found many interesting facts about our school. The feedback parents and students gave us in the Tell Them From Me surveys has been invaluable and we have used it extensively throughout our final report. Mrs Kennedy and Ms Fitz will meet with the External Validation panel on November 6 to present our findings and answer any questions. We look forward to presenting the report at the next P&C meeting.
LIBRARY NEWS
Library lessons and borrowing will resume in Week 2. Mrs Kennedy is very keen to hear about all your holiday reading!
A SPECIAL VISIT ~ STEPHANIE ALEXANDER We are very excited to announce that Stephanie Alexander will be dropping in for a visit tomorrow. We are one of the longest standing Kitchen Garden Programs in NSW, funded to establish our program by the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation back in 2010. She will no doubt be interested in how we have sustained and embedded the program in our school. We might even have a few growing and cooking tips for her! SHOUT OUT FOR HELP ~ Mrs Kennedy and the library At the next schoolyard markets Mrs Kennedy will be running the BBQ. She would dearly love some volunteers to help her. If you can spare the time please let Mrs Kennedy know by Wednesday October 24.
