A few fresh eggs….

What could be better than collecting fresh eggs from your very own hens each morning? There has been a huge increase in the number of people choosing to keep a few hens in the garden at home, or on the allotment and it is easy to see why.

Fresh eggs are the obvious benefit, but chickens are actually great pets too! They can be very friendly and their antics are guaranteed to keep you amused as you watch them chase each other around or squabble over a piece of lettuce. There are many different types of chicken, from plain brown hens bred for laying plenty of eggs, to more exotic looking chickens with feathered legs and funky hair do-s!

Chickens are quite easy pets to keep – the essentials are fresh water, clean feed and a dry, watertight coop. During the day hens like to be outside, and they should have access to plenty of fresh water and a supply of layers pellets (the basic feed for chickens). Treats like salad, cooked vegetables and mixed corn can be offered on an afternoon for variety. They will only go back into the chicken coop to lay eggs and at night to roost up.

It’s officially spring! So we at Buzz have teamed up with Weight Watchers to bring you two brilliant recipes packed full of flavour but lacking in calories.

Courgette and SpinachOpen LasagnaTry this open lasagne for a simple midweek meal. If courgettes aren’t your thing, experiment with different zero ProPoints value veg.

Prep time: 20 mins Cook time: 15 mins Other time: 0 mins Serves: 2

Ingredients1 medium Courgette, thinly sliced diagonally5 sprays Calorie Controlled Cooking Spray200g Spinach, washed120g Waitrose Fresh Lasagne, 3 sheets2 tablespoons (level) Pesto Sauce1 pinch Salt, and freshly ground black pepper75g Feta Cheese4 leaves Fresh Basil, to garnish

1. Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 6/200°C/fan oven 180°C.2. Heat a char-grill pan or the grill. Mist the courgette slices with calorie

controlled cooking spray, then char-grill or grill them for 2-3 minutes on each side. You may have to do this in batches.

3. Meanwhile, cook the spinach in a tiny amount of water for 2-3 minutes, until the leaves have wilted. Drain well, squeezing out the excess moisture with the back of a spoon. At the same time, cook the lasagne sheets for 3-4 minutes in a large saucepan of gently boiling lightly salted water.

4. Toss the cooked courgette slices in the pesto sauce. Drain the lasagne sheets well, and then layer them onto two warmed plates with the courgettes and spinach. Sprinkle the feta cheese on top, then serve, garnished with basil leaves.

Ingredients100g White Self Raising Flour15g Cocoa Powder½ teaspoon (level) Baking Powder100g Low Fat Spread100g Caster Sugar2 medium (raw) Eggs, whole1 teaspoon (level) Vanilla Extract60g Blueberries, or any fresh or frozen berries100g Low Fat Soft Cheese2 teaspoons Caster Sugar½ teaspoons (level) Vanilla Extract, (2-3 drops)40 portions Raspberries, 12 individual to serve

1. Preheat the oven to gas mark 4/180°C/fan 160°C. Put 12 silicone or paper bun cases into a bun tin.

2. Sift the flour, cocoa powder and baking powder into a mixing bowl. Add the low fat spread, sugar, unbeaten eggs and vanilla extract, then use a wooden spoon to vigorously beat the mixture together for 1–2 mins until smooth. Stir in the fruit.

3. Spoon the mixture into the bun cases. Transfer to the middle shelf of the oven and bake for 20–22 mins until risen and firm. Cool on a wire rack.

4. To decorate, beat the soft cheese with the sugar and vanilla extract until smooth. Pipe or spoon the mixture on top of the buns and decorate with the raspberries.

Technology expert Jon Place launched Integrity Technology Services three years ago, initially with just a handful of clients.

Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength, now employing a five-strong team of technicians to look after a customer base of more than 80 companies.

Now, in a bid to offer the company’s expertise to individual customers, the firm has opened a shop at its base in Hedworth Lane, Boldon Colliery.

Mr Place, 37, from East Boldon, said: “It’s been quite a whirlwind but we are obviously doing something right.

“We moved to our new base in 2012, which has proved to be a bit of a catalyst, as we have experienced a very impressive run of new clients over the last six months.

“As we are situated in a residential area, it seemed the logical next step to open a drop-in shop for anyone needing help with their computer or laptop.”

Mr Place started his career with Compaq dealership Coniston Computers, Sunderland, in the early 1990s, before building up an impressive portfolio of experience

with the NCS Group and IT Professional Services.

He added: “We have a broad range of clients, ranging from small consultancies to large engineering firms and all the technology headaches that come with it.

“We can handle large projects – one of our largest clients has 150 users based around the UK.

“And while this is an area we will continue to target and specialise in, I was also keen to offer our expertise on a more individual, ad hoc basis, to cover all ends of the market.

“We are open to all individuals and can carry out a wide range of services, big or small, including same-day computer cleaning, iPad and iPhone screen repairs and general servicing work.”
