About Bournville CollegeBournville College is conveniently located in South West Birmingham, just five miles away from Birmingham city centre. It is situated on the Bristol Road, which is one of the main bus routes that connect the city of Birmingham with its outskirts. Northfield town centre is on the doorstep of Bournville College.

Bournville College offers a stimulating study environment. In the last academic year there were over 520 students who completed their higher level courses. Our broad range of courses and excellent links with local universities offer great progression routes and future career prospects.

As a Bournville student you will be able to access all of the College resources and facilities as well as those at your partner university. For students who start studying with us in September, we hold an introductory evening so you can get to know other higher level students across the subject areas, as well as meet tutors and advisors from the careers, counselling, welfare and learning resource centres.

Learning Resources Centre (LRC)Higher Education (HE) students can borrow up to 6 items from the LRC. This may include books, CD-ROMs, DVDs and journals for the period of up to 4 weeks. Sessions on the Harvard referencing systems are delivered by the tutor librarian upon request. Information gateways such as the Resource Discovery Network for HE students can be accessed from the learning resources section of Bournville College intranet. Further information skills sessions on the use of indexes and abstracts can be delivered on demand.

The LRC team has a learning advisor who specialises in the use of electronic learning materials and packages in order to enhance the quality of your assignment work and further develop your computer literacy. In-depth queries regarding the use of Microsoft Office programmes for coursework can be answered through the use of practical help sheets or working through the electronic version available as a self-guided course from Bournville College intranet.

Easy access to our resources from homeWe are members of several JISC repository groups, which means that we share access to a wide range of learning materials. At home, Bournville students can receive college emails and access the course web based materials and learning support through the Internet. The partner university that accredits your course will enable you to access a wider range of up to date academic resources, particularly electronic journals and articles on your chosen subject.

Careers Advice and GuidanceWe have a large careers resources room holding a wide range of careers information. Our experienced careers advisors

can discuss opportunities available to you on completion of your HE course and how you can use your new skills and knowledge to develop your career.

Counselling ServiceThe College counsellors provide a counselling service to all students. This service aims to support you in your studies. We

believe it is important that you are not distracted by problems and concerns occurring either in or outside college. The service is confidential and provides one to one support either as a one off or on an on-going basis. At your request we

can liaise with tutors, other college staff or outside agencies to help sort out the difficulty. To book an appointment call 0121 483 1130.

Welfare ServiceThe welfare service can help by giving advice and information about a range of issues that are relevant to students in

higher education. If you have concerns about benefits, housing, money management, student finance, a doctor or solicitor or any other issue the welfare advisor may be able to help. To book an appointment call 0121 483 1046.

TutorialsOur HE learners receive regular tutorials with their personal tutor where they discuss their progress on the course.

Student Support/Assessment TeamIf you have a learning difficulty or disability you may require additional support to enable you to fully access the course

of your choice. This support is assessed, co-ordinated and monitored through the assessment team. The role of the assessment team is to determine what support can be provided to enable you to integrate fully onto the appropriate

course, make recommendations to tutors and support staff, liaise with the exams office for special examinations arrangements and recommend specialist equipment. To book for support assessment call 0121 483 1061.
