The Major Organs
Skull Spine Ribs Femur Cranium Mandible Clavicle Humorous Lumbar Vertebrae Ulna Radius Pubis Carpals Metacarpals Isocheim
The Skull
The function is to attach the brain and other head organs to the rest of the body by connecting to the spinal cord
Supports and protects Protects from knocks and bangs The structure is sutures allow for a tiny bit of movement in the skull Very bony framework of the head Arranged in to two parts, the cranium Designed to stand upright
The Spine
The function is to provide protection to the spinal cord and associated cord To allow for movement Support body frame in upright position Allow for flexibility Structural base for rib attachments that protects heart and lungs The structure is very bony Is made up into 24 vertebrae Divided into 3 sections Cervical spine or neck is made out of 7 vertebrae Thoracic spine made of 12 vertebrae Lubber spine low back made of 5 vertebrae
The Ribs
Function, rib cage protects your vital organs Gives enough flexibility to your breathing by rid cage Muscles between the ribs lift the rib cage upon inhalation and move down to squeeze air out
during inhalation Structure bony and cartilage 24 ribs in the human body Made with skin and associated fascia and muscles Long curved bones which form rib cage
The Femur
Function for the femur is it provides support to the entire skeletal structure Helps in the movement of our legs Without femur we wouldn’t be able to walk Femur is longest and strongest in the skeleton Structure is rounded smooth head into a socket in the pelvis called
acetabulum Very long bone Made out of a very hard bone Cavity filled with bone marrow Red bone marrow is a soft tissue that produces blood cells Yellow marrow is a store for fat Femur bone could be spongy or compact
Relationship With The Skeletal System
The muscular and the skeletal system relate to each other Skeletal system provides locations for muscle attachments Muscles are connected to the bones Without bones, muscles would fall down into a mass of mush Without muscles, bones would not be able to make our
bodies move
Healthy Effects
To keep the bones in your body healthy you need to…..
Exercise(weight lifting, running, going to the gym) Diet(fruits, veggies, meat, milk) Sleeping Vitamins A,D,C
Harmful Effects Alcohol weakens bones and makes the bones not as
strong as its suppose to be Osteoporosis, scoliosis, arthritis and bone cancer
effect your body Smoking can cause immediate complications. It can
causes lung cancer, other cancer, heart disease, and stroke typically.
Common Diseases
Common diseases are…... Arthritis Bone cancer Leukemia Osteomalaia Osteoporosis Spina bifida Spinal curvatures
DID TOU KNOW….. The smallest bone in our body is the size of a rice grain We have 206 bones, 52 are made in our feet Humans and a giraffe have the same amount of bones Over half of our bones are in our hands and feet Our bones get lighter as we age Your bones are stronger than steel When your born we have over 300 bones , when you get older ,
bones go together and so when you’re a adult you have 206 bones
