BuzzBizzSummer 2013 Sponsored
Published in association with Murco and the
T HIS special editionof BuzzBizz is eightpages packed full of Enterprise Fair picturesand information.
Huge congratulationsto Murco on its 40th yearanniversary and a huge thank
you tothem for
supporting the event whata fantastic Enterprise Fair washad this year!
Despi te the blusteryconditions, nothing coulddampen the Pembrokeshirespirit. One young trader said:My mum says if we wait forthe weather we would neverdo anything.
Enthusiasm and excite-ment were in abundance, its impossible not to joinin. Cheerleading and jinglesadded to the hustle and bustleon the Riverside and CastleSquare in Haverfordwest.
More than 40 schoolsattended over three daysalongside independents andyouth groups. In total therewere in excess of 500 youngpeople trading!
So what is the EnterpriseFair all about?
I ts a n a bso lu tel yfantastic opportunity for
young people betweenthe ages of five and
25 years old to learnabout business and
enterprise and itdoesnt all takeplace at the
event.Schools and groups work
particularly hard coming upwith ideas, market research, and working out costs andprofit margins. Some schoolsinvolve all year groups and
hold a Dragons Den. Othersengage sponsorship and work with business partners.
How does this relate to thecurriculum and education?
Local r es iden t JohnHart said: It is a fantastic
opportunity for youngpeople, they are experiencingbusiness in the real world.
They areall enjoyingthem-selves and the atmosphere isfantastic.
Enterprise fair creates a buzz!

EntErprisE a majo ac v y a po f eldchool Have fo dwe ,
a d o ga ed by hechool Cou c l w h allu l a d cla e ak ga .The annual Enterprise
Fair plays a major role inhis enterprise topic. At the
beginning of the spring term, epresentative school coun-
cillors from each class haveheir first enterprise meet-ng where they play about
with some initial ideas anddiscuss with their classeswhat they can make to sellat the enterprise fair andwhether they think they canmake a profit.
Here at Portfield, wehave two Polly Tunnels soour Enterprise Fair idea isalways centred around agardening theme.
This is a favourite of thepupils and a project that allclasses can really get stuck nto, from shopping for seeds
and pots to growing andaking care of the plants andlowers, to learning about
making a sales and makinga profit as well as exploringand engaging in a variety of ensory experiences.
Students of all ages atPortfield have the oppor-unity to take part in this
exciting event and each yearwe make a profit, givinghe students a real sense
of achievement, taking pride
in all the hard work andpreparation in the run up tothe Enterprise Fair.
Once the profit hasbeen calculated, the SchoolCounc il dec ides thebest way to spend thesefunds such as buying newequipment for the school orinvesting it back into nextyears Enterprise fund.
