Events, Marketing and Fundraising Officer Dec 2006 to Dec 2008

Whilst in this role I worked on many different large and small scale events in and around Blackburn with

Darwen. After leaving the Mayor’s Office this was a big learning curve and helped me look at the logistics,

marketing and financing complexity of organising such diverse events. It was challenging working on such projects and trying to attract and interact with all communities and businesses within Blackburn with Darwen.

Events I helped organise and market are, Mayor at Home, Mayors Ball, Darwen Live Music Festival, Arts in the Park Music Festival, Blackburn Mela, Celebrate Blackburn (2 week large Town Centre Cultural, Arts and sports

programme), Pennine Lancashire Food and Culture Festival, Christmas Lights switch on for Blackburn and

Darwen, Cathedral Christmas Firework event, Sports Relief town centre fun run, town centre 10K run and cycle race and raising the flag Olympic event for 2012.

Key Achievements:

Working with graphic design companies to produce promotional graphic art work, always using the council

brand and logo (recognisable event brands).

Working with different ethnic groups to ensure community cohesion events.

Working with the councils PR team, local tourist information and local media to successfully promote events.

Working alongside the events manager and event officer to deliver large events within timescales and

budgets. Obtain event beneficial sponsorship deals with partners to subsidise events such as Darwen Live, Celebrate

Blackburn, Mayors Ball, Arts in the Park and Blackburn Mela.

Creating a comprehensive working checklist for all types of events which include all key stages (set up and

tear down).

Working on the planning of the final week home coming of Diana Vickers (X Factor contestant) town centre

performance which although didn’t happen (got knocked out in semi-finals) was a good exercise in organising a large scale town centre concert event in a short time period (10 days).

Developed my skills in creating risk assessments, welfare documents whilst working closely with the councils

Risk and Safety Team and Insurance Officer. Attending many different key event meetings with other partners including Police, Fire, Lancashire

Emergency Service, first aid (St John Ambulance or Red Cross), security companies etc, for large scale

events to work through event logistical planning. Compiling concert programmes for up to 12 separate stages within an events programme booklet.
