RETURNING FOR A NEW INSTALLMENT – THE LATE-NIGHT SMASH HIT OF SUMMER 2015!

THE BOX: LOS ANGELES A Film Noir Narrative Experiment in Late Night Theater

MARCH 3-25, 2017, Fri-Sat @ 11pm

From the Creators of Serial Killers! THE BOX: LOS ANGELES

is an experiment in randomly generated narrative.

Given a collection of characters and settings from

which to choose, writers will create fragments – small

scenes and snippets that will then be put together

randomly and performed each night. The hope is that a

story will emerge - one that is dark, mysterious, and

moving. There are a million different stories in THE BOX. In the end, we will hear just one.

Director's Note

When I first saw ROSE AND THE RIME as a semi-staged reading last year, I was immediately captivated by its necessary theatricality and emotional sweep. I saw a great opportunity to reveal depths of the story through committed performances and robust technical support. I’m grateful to Literary Manager Angela Sauer for bringing us the play, as well as to the Artistic Directors for entrusting me with the opportunity to bring it to life. I’m also grateful to the House Theatre of Chicago and the Dramatic Publishing Company. They did a great job showing us the essence of ROSE in print, no small task, and I hope they find our production worth the risk of letting their baby out into the world. For primary visual style I reunited artist Hillary Bauman and animator Chris Hutchings after our successful collaboration on Sacred Fools’ Hamlet Max in the 2012 Hollywood Fringe, and I appreciate their talent and creativity in creating the world of our production. Our Musical Director Crystal Keith and I have both had the honor and pleasure of training and performing with Theatre Movement Bazaar. I’ve combined some of the ensemble training techniques of TMB’s Tina Kronis with Crystal’s experience in Orff Shulwerk to develop the ensemble style for ROSE. I’m also grateful for the influence of director Derek Horton. From him and TMB I learned the critical importance of precision, specificity, and simplicity in performance. I hope these qualities are evident in the ensemble of ROSE, and that they open a window into the heart of this beautiful play. Thank you,

--Jacob

SERIAL KILLERS:

Season 12

LATE-NIGHT SATURDAYS @ 11PM Jan. 21 – Feb. 25 ● April 1 – 22

Playoffs: April 29, May 6, June 3-24

Each week, three continuing stories face

off against two new tales. At the end of

the show, you vote for the three stories that you would like to see continue on to next Saturday night,

where their subsequent episodes will then be pitted against two completely new storylines. Each week's

serials could live on for weeks... or be quietly smothered in their sleep – it’s up to you. But whichever

pieces you vote for, one thing is for certain - by the end of the evening, you will be a Serial Killer.

THE PLAYOFFS: Our TWELFTH year of serialized storytelling culminates as this season's sixteen most popular

storylines go head to head in a weekly elimination round. Only the last two serials left standing after your

votes are tallied will get to finish their stories... and win cash prizes! (June performances will be part of the

Hollywood Fringe! Tickets for those performances will be available via HollywoodFringe.org)
