Great School Byron Bay Public School opened in 1892. It has provided a unique teaching and learning environment that proudly serves families from a diverse range of backgrounds. Currently there are 640 students and 26 classes.

The school’s motto, ‘I Aspire, I Achieve’ and the ensuing belief in excellence, innovation, opportunity and success is a driving force within the school community. The school is proud of its longstanding reputation for good work, good behaviour and students wearing their uniform with pride.

The school provides a very supportive and positive educational environment which addresses the learning needs of all students. We have high expectations consistent with each student ’s ability and the belief that all students can achieve their personal best. We are on a journey towards achieving excellence. While the emphasis is on literacy, numeracy and future focused teaching and learning, a broad range of extracurricular programs operate, including sport, dance, choir, band, public speaking, cultural, environmental, leadership, philosophy, growth mindset, TOM, STEM and robotics initiatives.

The development of technology is ongoing, with opportunities for students to engage in future focused learning, including robotics and coding programs.

The school’s highly dedicated staff are committed to providing rich and varied programs to ensure that all students receive a quality education. We foster positive relationships, personal effort and a positive attitude to learning. Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) strategies based on the core values of being ‘Respectful, Responsible and Fair’ are embedded into all aspects of school life. We value and promote strong partnerships with our families, the local community and educational networks. The school is welcoming and friendly. The school enjoys a strong partnership with the P&C who financially support educational programs and provide an avenue for whole school community input into school decision making. Parents are actively involved in school life. Education Week Awards Congratulations to Gaye McKenna, our School Administration Manager, Michelle Spry, our Stage Two Assistant Principal and Cameron Smith, our Band Master, who each received a prestigious Lennox Coast Network Education Week Award. showcase their performing arts skills to solve problems in the challenge they were presented with. Our team, consisting of Camila H, Esme L, Eden S-G, Kate L, Marley A and Juniper B had the right mix of intelligence and creativity, along with the ability to work as an effective team. Well done, TOM team! Thank you to Mrs Whitney for giving up her time to support and facilitate the team and to the parents for their willingness, at very short notice, to travel with their children to the state finals. It was a real team effort.

Special Visitor Yesterday we had a very special visitor pay us a visit, a koala bear decided to spend time in our beautiful fig tree that is in the middle of our playground and it soon became the centre of attention amongst the students.

Photographs, Video Footage, YouTube & Social Media This is a reminder to all parents that we need to continue to respect the privacy of other students and their families. If you are taking photos or video footage of school activities, please stay focused on your child. The images that you capture are not to be uploaded onto any social media sites, including YouTube, Facebook and like sites, without the express permission of the students concerned, their parents and the school. We appreciate your ongoing cooperation in regard to this matter.

Playgroup - Thursdays 9.30am Our school playgroup operates every Thursday morning in the hall. Kate Smith is our playgroup coordinator who provides a wonderful environment for families with young children to meet and play.

Play Equipment - Before and After School Use Please remember that children playing on the fixed equipment after school are to be in direct supervision of their parent or carer. It is important that students who are not picked up from school go directly home or go straight to bus lines. By everyone following these expectations, we are creating a safe environment for our students. Please note that in the morning, the play equipment is out of bounds to all.

P&C Meeting Tomorrow Our next P&C Meeting will be held tomorrow evening, Thursday 13 September in the staffroom. The P&C are keen to commence planning for 2019 and beyond and will be working on a strategic plan over the next few months. Everyone is welcome to attend the P&C’s meetings and we would love to see some new faces. Child minding is available, please contact the school office if this is required.

Band Committee Meeting Our next meeting is at 3.30pm tomorrow, Thursday 13 September in the band room. I encourage all Band Committee members and interested parties to attend.

Until next time, Mrs Linda Trigg Principal Band News Congratulations to our wonderful Band Leader Cameron Smith who received an Education Week Award to recognise his work with the BBPS Band. Dates to Remember: Friday 21/9/18: Arts Extravaganza Rehearsal - Bunyip and Wilder Bands will be performing. Wednesday 26/9/18: Arts Extravaganza - 6.00pm

Grandparents' Day 2018 Next Term we are celebrating Grandparents' Day. Grandparents are warmly invited to our celebrations on Wednesday 24 October at 9.20am. Arts Extravaganza News The second Arts Extravaganza for 2018 is fast approaching and students and their teachers are working in collaboration to ensure a great night of entertainment. If your child’s class is performing in the Arts Extravaganza and your child is unable to attend on the night, please inform your child’s teacher immediately.

The ticket sales desk will be on the Kindergarten verandah, opening every morning from 8.55-9.15am, from Wednesday 19 September to Wednesday 26 September. Each concert has a different set of performances and the hall will be vacated between sessions, unless you have tickets for both concerts. Tickets are $10 per person, per concert and seating in the hall is limited, so please buy your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

All BBPS students will see both concerts at the Dress Rehearsal on Friday 21 September and therefore will not attend the show as part of the audience on Wednesday 26 September.

All students performing will be required to stay in their allocated holding room when not performing.

Our school fixed equipment is OUT OF BOUNDS for the duration of both concerts. A child minding service will be provided in the Library for any BBPS students who are not performing and need looking after, but whose parents are watching either Concert 1 or Concert 2.

Delicious food will be available from the canteen before Concert 1 and in between Concert 1 and Concert 2.

**** All students are performing in the finale at the end of each

concert. They will return to their Holding Rooms after the finale and

will wait for a parent to pick them up.

WE HOPE YOU ENJOY OUR FINAL EXTRAVAGANZA FOR 2018!
