PURE PARTS PERFORMANCEThe best way to maintain the top performance and reliability of Cat engines is byinsisting on Genuine Cat Parts and Service. While will-fit imitations may initially costless, they could also have deficiencies that don’t show up until it’s too late to preventengine damage.

The Caterpillar “Genuine Network” of Authorized Dealers means that Cat Parts arealways close at hand. In fact, the vast majority of parts you’ll need are available atyour local dealer, right off the shelf. And in the rare event a specific part is not instock, your dealer can usually get it for you within 24 hours.

PURE CONFIDENCEThe standard warranty* for Caterpillar heavy duty on-highway engines covers parts andlabor for 2 years/unlimited mileage.

Extended Service Coverage (ESC)* is an optional repair cost protection plan for ownersof all on-highway trucks powered by Cat truck engines including engines with ACERTTechnology. The coverage pays 100% of parts and labor charges for any coveredfailures caused by defects in materials or workmanship under normal use and service.

Built to last with heavy duty components and increaseddisplacement, the Cat C11 provides the reliability and ruggeddurability for day cab, construction, mixer, waste hauler and othervocational applications. How rugged? It features the same blockand cross-flow cylinder head as the “million-mile” Cat C13.

Combustion Technology Series turbocharging forcesmore cool, clean air into combustion chamber, whilevariable valve actuation controls air volume to reduceemissions

Fuel System MEUI fuel system utilizes precise injectiontiming to lower peak cylinder temperatures, maximize fueleconomy and lower emissions

Engine Electronics Computer senses ever-changingconditions and synchronizes components to optimizepower, fuel economy and emissions

Aftertreatment Cat Diesel Oxidation Catalyst reducesparticulates and hydrocarbons with no moving parts andrequires no maintenance

ACERT TECHNOLOGY LEADS THE WAYACERT Technology is a total systems solution concentrating on four key areas: (1) combustion technology, (2) fuel systems, (3) integrated and enhanced electronic engine controls, and (4) a simple, effective aftertreatment system. This unique solution not only enables Cat engines to meet today’s clean air regulations while delivering highercustomer value, it also establishes the building blocks for attaining tomorrow’s more stringent standards.

HORSEPOWER RATINGS

GEARING CONSIDERATIONSThe C11 on-highway diesel engine offers a wide operating rangeand high torque rise, which promotes the use of transmissionswith fewer gears. Even with this built-in feature, heavy/specialtyhaulers should still gear their trucks to achieve the properbalance between startability and desired road speed. In general, drivers should follow the “gear fast, run super slow” strategy foroptimal performance.

For the best balance of performance and fuel economy, spec axleratios and tire sizes to accommodate the following:

 60,000 lb GCW or less: 1450 rpm @ 65 mph (105 km/h)

Maximum recommended engine speed at cruise is 1500 rpm.Minimum startability requirements are 10% for pick-up anddelivery, 14% for line haul, 20% for on/off highway and 25% foroff-highway. At peak torque rpm in top gear, the recommendedgradeability is 1.8% (1.5% minimum). At cruise speed in top gear,1.0% is the ideal gradeability.

To optimize your truck’s performance characteristics, acomputerized spec’ing tool called Design Pro is offered by yourCaterpillar dealer. It calculates effects of various drivelinevariables on engine operation such as transmissions, axles andtires. This analysis allows you to verify that your truck’s drivelinespecifications are best suited to your application.

For best performance and fuel economy, Cat engines withACERT Technology need to be spec’d right and driven right: 1. Gear it right to get results. Start with the right transmission andthe appropriate axle ratio that meet your minimum startability andgradeability requirements. The goal is to maximize fuel economy bycruising at 1450-1500 rpm at 65 mph.2. Practice progressive shifting. Progressive shifting–shifting up as soon as you have enough rpm to grab the next higher gear–allows the vehicle to get up to speed in good shape and saves fuel in the process.

3. Don’t be afraid to lug it back. On long grades, delay downshiftsuntil the tach shows around 1100 rpm. Lugging the engine like thismay seem strange, but Cat engines with ACERT Technology can take it. 4. Use the cruise and slow down. Electronic cruise control keeps speed and rpms steady to save fuel and is easier on the driver. A reasonable speed setting helps, too: every mile per hour over 55 cuts fuel economy by a tenth of a mile per gallon. 5. Long warm-ups and cool-downs are unnecessary. Just goeasy on the throttle until the engine warms up, and allow threeminutes for cool-down. Reduce overnight idle time to save fuel. Cutting your total idle time from 50% to 25% can improve fueleconomy by up to 4%.
