This is the third issue of CADISON WORLD and we are really happy that somuch of our readers enjoyed the previous ones. Many thanks to all of you for yourpositive feedback up to here.

Today we tried hard to decide which news, updates, success stories and bestpractice examples etc. are most relevant for our valuable customers and readers.

Sure, CADISON® R10.1 is just in front of us and we'll give you an overview ofthe main topics inside. Lots of customer requests (PW 2010 and CIC 2010) havebeen implemented.

Many customers immediately updated their installations to R10 because of thenew 64-Bit technology. Huge projects can now be handled and the time of thinkingintensively on structuring large projects into small units has gone by.

Time to lead the focus on some really helpful functionality for even more inte-gration on the holistic engineering workflow, which is the real passion of CADISON®

technology.Quite a lot of our users have to deal with Autodesk Inventor data, regardless

whether it comes from internal colleagues or external sub suppliers. In R10.1 thiswill work out easiest. More interfaces like CAESAR II and a real DWG-Export out ofPID-Designer for Visio® or a 2D-Extraction will also come along with the next re-leases. More details on this and all other news you will find inside the magazine.

For technology insiders we have a range of Best Practices which might updatetheir skills and last but not least we will close with a review on CADISON® Interna-tional Conference 2010. Nowadays, plant engineering processes require professionalsupport from project handling as well as systematic monitoringand project controlling during the entire execution of the cus-tomer’s order. But never mind the theory. What’s the situationin practice today?Non-integrated plant design and project handling often turnorder processing into an unwitting adventure. Admittedly, youhave to get that far first. Nowadays, you need to do a bit ofarm twisting to get the client to place his order at all. Tende-ring is a drawn-out affair, with a multitude of quotations havingto be submitted.

If these are not at least partly automated, unnecessarily highcosts are incurred already in the tendering phase, which, ofcourse, have to be passed on to other projects.The editors of digitalPLANT from the ECONOMIC ENGINEE-RINGmagazine have therefore decided to hold, in cooperationwith B.I.M.-Consulting mbH (Magdeburg) and ITandFactoryGmbH (Baden Soden), a series of workshops on integratedplant design and project handling in the Dortmund area in19th May 2011 and in the Munich area in autumn 2011. The basic concept behind the Engineering Tool CADISON®

is the data continuity in all modules and the automatic dataadjustment in case of modifications. Mainly this data consis-tency convinced the plant constructor LTH Dresden. The com-pany saves up to 50% of time by adapting the cataloguemodule MATPIPE (pipe specification and catalogue manage-ment) in tender preparation and compilation of required spareparts.

LTH Dresden has been using the installed Engineering ToolCADISON® since 2004. Automatic data adjustment in case ofplanning modifications has been the decisive aspect for se-lection of this tool. Mr. Andreas Hiegelsberger, Project Engi-neering Manager of LTH reports: “We have been looking for atool that may reliably bring together all drawing components inone computation list.” One of the standard features is the gen-eration of a current parts list as Excel table “by pushing a but-ton”. LTH went one step further with CADISON® and

developed an automatic compilation method – the result is aready-made quotation as Word report.

Since LTH submits about 800 quotations per year, adoptionof the system results in reduced workload for project designengineers. “While the project is running through severalphases at tendering stage – and this happens frequently inpractice – enormous time and cost savings are possible. Andwe are always sure that calculation and quotation are in ac-cordance with the current state of planning”, said Mr. Hiegels-berger. Time saving is convincing: “For a project with a valueof 3 to 4 million we today need some 20 hours for preparationof the first quotation – and in the years before we had to investdouble the time.” Specifically in case of large-scale projectsthe company had been successful and could convince manycustomers through prompt submission of quotations.

Now LTH went another step further: The MATPIPE Cata-logue had been extended through the category “Spare parts”.In the phase of project implementation, customers expecteven a list of vital spare parts at a very early stage already, in-cluding the prices. The focus in this list is laid on most essen-tial spare parts recommended by manufacturer.

The project design engineer requests from the supplier theinformation about relevant spare parts for each component(pump, valve, mixer etc.). The planning engineer does not onlyhandle the spare parts in an Excel list but even sets link-upsin Matpipe in the new category “Spare Parts”: For example,the valve 3315 is linked up with the spare parts 4516 and8314. This method becomes standard for all future planningwork: In case the planning engineer re-selects the valve 3315from the catalogue in a project to be handled later, the engi-neer will automatically get the listed associated spare part(s).Thus each component is associated with the background in-

formation about spare parts that the customer should keep instore.

This new approach is very attractive for a company withmany hundreds of quotations to be submitted each year. Informer years the employees had to invest up to 100 hours for

CADISON® R10 – Prerequisites

preparation of a spare part offer tailored to a specific project.In a project with 2000 and more components a correspondinghigh number of spare parts will be required. The higher qual-ity level should be noted as well. The planning engineer can besure that no spare part will be forgotten since this list is be au-tomatically configured for each installed component. Mr. An-

dreas Hiegelsberger expects another advantage: Thecustomer can see which spare parts are recommended for aspecific component and gets at the same time the article num-ber announced by LTH Dresden. Thus this spare part can be

simply ordered through the article number and the plant de-sign engineer increases the operational comfort for its cus-tomer.

The next logic step is already under consideration: LTHstores not only one spare part list for each component butgives maintenance recommendations as well, i.e. informationabout the time when replacement of parts is required underthe aspect of equipment availability.

The engi-neering planning tool CADISON® uses an interface to transmit the isometricsdata to the calculation program Rohr2. Thus the planning engineer may com-mence the stress calculations and the required proofs directly on the basis ofCADISON®, so that some 30 to 50 % of time and expenditures is saved.

Rohr2 (supplier: Sigma Ingenieurge-sellschaft) has been used by nationaland international plant constructioncontractors and equipment operatorsfrom the energy sector, chemical andpharmaceutical industry for static anddynamic analysis of complex pipelinesystems for more than 40 years already.Even technical inspection authoritiesuse it for examination of pipe systemstructure analyses.

The manager of SigmaMr. Stefan Masala states:“Rohr2 is a complete inter-active application and intu-itively understandable inmany fields.” First of all, theuser shall decide which standard cal-culation code shall be used “The userhas a great variety of national and in-ternational codes and standards avail-able for selection, such as ASME, ANSI,EN 13480, KTA or ISO 14692 that arecontinuously updated in the frameworkof software maintenance”, says Mr.Masala. The user receives assistancefor modelling and testing of its inputsthrough plausibility checks. Verificationof stresses and determination of loadsare performed automatically in con-formity with the selected code.

Large vessels, tanks, reactors and ahigh number of pipelines are character-istic for chemical plants. In general thepipes are essential components oflarge-scale technical plants, even in re-fineries or power stations, since they arerequired for interconnection of compo-nents, for supply and discharge of fluids.

It is not surprising that IT tools forpipeline planning and calculations hadbeen developed early already and areurgently requested by planning engi-neers. The pipeline calculation program

Mr. Masala: “In principle, Rohr2 isused in all applications where pipelinesare operated under pressure and tem-perature conditions. Apart from statu-tory provisions for calculation, even thedesire to develop cost-saving concep-tions plays a decisive role.” More than500 customers with more than 1000 li-cences demonstrate the broad accept-ance on the market.

One of these applicants is AMR-En-gineering. The company has been aproject engineering and plant construc-tion contractor and supplier of machinesand equipment for chemical and phar-maceutical industry, power engineeringand metallurgical industry for more than40 years already. Some 40% of AMR’sturnover are derived from supply oftanks, steel and pipeline construction.Therefore it is not surprising that this en-gineering undertaking has been work-ing with the calculation program Rohr2for more than 20 years already.

Dipl.-Ing. Jürgen Pagel, technicalmanager of AMR-Engineering, reports:“Stress calculation is obligatory in caseof sensitive pipeline systems in plantengineering, especially in nuclearpower stations – and the customer re-quests this in most different forms, or itis dictated in the applicable codes andstandards. We must verify that stressesin pipelines cannot exceed the definedlimits. Sometimes it is even necessaryto simulate situations, such as differentoperating regimes or even extreme loadcase situations and severe accidents.”

The pipe support system used forpipeline installation must be applied sothat excessive stresses can occur nei-ther in the course of conventional oper-ation nor in case of rare situations likewater hammers. When planning nuclearpower stations, even improbable oc-currences like aircraft crashes, earth-quakes or shock waves resulting froman explosion must be simulated as loadcase. Mr. Pagel says: “We can examineall these dynamic load cases withRohr2.”

vant system data from CADISON® with-out any extra expenditure. If necessary,missing calculation-specific informationcan be self-supplemented in Rohr2.

Project example:AMR had been awarded a contract

from RAG Aktiengesellschaft for engi-neering, fabrication, supply and instal-lation of a new electric filter for gascleaning, including the table foundation,as extension of the existing electric filterplant. The new gas filter has a capacityof 40,000 m³/h and adds its capacity tothe existing capacity of the four filtersrunning already with a capacity of25,000 m³/h each. The purpose is to usethe electric filter for reduction of tar anddust content in the coke gas to a resid-ual content of <10 mg/Nm³. The inter-connection pipelines have a diameter of1400 and 1200 mm, respectively. Thetrue-to-detail planning took place in the3Dmodel with CADISON® while pipelinecalculation was based on Rohr2.

Mr. Georg Kremer, managing direc-tor of the CADISON® provider ITand-Factory, states: “Apart from reducedplanning time and cost saving the cou-

pling between CADISON® and Rohr2helps the plant design engineer to get ahigher level of planning safety throughreduced error proneness.” In combina-tion with report generation that is inte-grated in Rohr2 and largely automatedand individually adaptable, the calcula-tion time and, thus, the expenses canbe reduced by up to 50% according tousers’ statements. By the way, calcula-tion results can be presented graphi-cally as well: You can directly seethrough the coloured background howpipeline stresses are distributed andwhere the stress limits are exceeded.

Mr. Jürgen Pagel concludes: “An in-tegrated planning tool like CADISON®

helps to avoid extra work caused bysystem breaks. To be more precise:Due to its seamless data continuity upto the calculation program Rohr2 thistool family avoids multiple data entry.We can save planning expenses andtime even through simple creation ofisometrics and availability of updatedand complete parts lists plus bills ofquantity reflecting the interim status ofthe project.”

The AMR planning team always cal-culates even the reaction of a pipelineto thermal stresses. “So we can avoidsuch cases like loads existing on pipenozzles of a tank or reactor and gettingexcessively high in response to alter-nating temperatures with resultant dam-age to this plant component.”

Mr. Jürgen Pagel takes it as essen-tial advantage that the engineering toolCADISON® available since 2008 for 3Dplanning offers an interface for couplingto Rohr2: All relevant properties ofpipelines designed in the 3D model canbe transmitted to the stress calculationprogram by means of the NTR file con-taining the descriptive data for analysis.“We generate the pipeline isometricsfrom the 3D model initially created withCADISON®. Data, even the coordinatesof pipeline, valves and fittings, internalitems and connections, are transmittedautomatically via interface to the calcu-lation program. Thus our planning staffcan start the stress calculation workand prepare the required proofs directlyon the basis of CADISON® so that some30% of time and effort are saved.”

ITandFactory will assist Germany’s leading long-distance gassupplier, Open Grid Europe, with the integrated CAE solutionCADISON® in the company’s future engineering processes. Im-plementation includes the use of CADISON® in the domains ofplant engineering, operation and documentation.

After the six-month pilot phase with participation of sub-suppliers of Open Grid Europe, the company ITandFactoryhad been awarded the contract for introduction of CADISON®

in December 2010. The use of CADISON® shall ensure thecentral unification of processes in the domains and implementthis in one joint engineering platform. CADISON® shall becoupled to other company solutions through integrated inter-faces and be available as central information system in engi-neering and plant documentation.

In the medium term, engineering information about thecompressor stations operated by Open Grid Europe will beprocessed, maintained and supplied at some 150 CADISON®

workstations. Development and adaptation of this infrastruc-ture and planning platform is supported by means of externalengineering consultants. This platform shall help to acceler-ate and simplify the communication with sub-suppliers.

Interview“CADISON® helps in streamlining engineering processes”Rajesh Jain, the Promoter & Director of ‘Enhanced WAPP Systems’, is a graduate inChemical Engineer from IIT, Delhi, and has over fifteen years of experience in the sec-tor of water/wastewater management, environment management and waste-to-energy projects. CADISONWORLD (CW): Mr. Jain, what were your plant engineering challengestowards achieving maximum productivity? How has CADISON® helped you toovercome these challenges?Rajesh Jain: We had limited capabilities before CADISON®. But now withCADISON®, we can do certain process in lesser time with lot of precision, like P&ID,3D, Piping, and generating Isometrics and proper BOQ (Bill of Quantity), whichwere too much time consuming and were done in parts. Administration has be-come user friendly and simple.

CW: What were your challenges for a similar capacity project withoutCADISON®? What benefits did you observe with CADISON®?Rajesh Jain: Before CADISON®, we had to do lot of engineering aspects asseparate exercises. Hence we had to do lot many cross checking for any possiblemismatch among these. But now, since all are integrated and automatic, total timefor delivery has been reduced and errors are minimized.Visualization was difficult in AutoCAD drawings and job would become person spe-cific. CADISON® has solved some of these problems.

CW: In conclusion – how has CADISON® enhanced your competitiveness withrespect to the end user?Rajesh Jain: CADISON®, with its intelligence, helps in streamlining engineeringprocesses with minimal confusion. Thus minimizing errors.

CADISON® R10.1 – Inventor-Interface

Many CADISON® customers and their suppliers use Au-todesk Inventor as design tool for detailed planning of spe-cific machines and equipment with very complex geometry,assemblies and joints that by far exceed the data required forpipeline and tank construction.

These complex structures should be imported later withthe CADISON® 3D-Designer in the framework of the “Overallplanning of a plant” and further used for installation planningand pipeline installation. Starting with version R10.1, a newCADISON® Inventor-Interface will be available for automationof numerous manual actions that are now still necessary sothat the user receives massive support for import inCADISON® and can benefit from automation of this import.

It should be outlined here that the interface is “workflowdriven”, i.e. design work is per-formed with the appropriate de-sign-specific tool – Inventor orCADISON®. This is specificallyapplicable even to modifications.Now CADISON® inevitably needsonly all required geometry data,such as outside dimensions,connections, transitions etc. De-tailed surface information likebores, threaded and blind holesand other fabrication details arenormally not required.

The following basic data are re-quired for successful implementa-tion:· Data for simplification of geometry:outer edges, transitions etc.· Connection parameters like transi-tions, nominald i -ame-ters etc.· Connect-ion parame-ters like ratedpressure, numberof bolts etc. as thebasis for automatic se-lection of correct flanges,weld seams, gaskets etc. inCADISON®.

Implementation of interface takesplace under the slogan “Import withoutextra data”. This means that the investor/user supplies data“as they are”, and the CADISON® user enriches them with themissing information while import takes place.

To make this a little more precise, you may find below a se-lection of required information that may of course be adoptedin case it is present in the inventor already:

· Type of object for connection (flange, pipe, bend, noz-zle etc.)· Connection standard (DIN, ANSI etc.)· Type of gasket· Type of sealing face· Nominal pressure· …

Of course the access to catalogue entries defined in MAT-PIPE already is possible so that

the system provides addi-tional support in thisphase as well.

Outlook to CADISON® R11:In case of further detailing within Inventor, the informa-tion can be re-imported through a “modification note”to CADISON® again – in this case only with the Delta-Information.

process at WingasEuropean energy provider Wingas relies on CADISON® for designing the landing point of the Nord Stream pipelinenear Greifswald. About the company’s new redundant free and integrated engineering process.

To further increase supply securityand ensure that Germany’s and West-ern Europe’s demand for gas imports iscovered in the long-term, OAOGazprom (Moscow), BASF (Lud-wigshafen/Germany), and E.on Ruhrgas(Essen/Germany) signed an agreementin principle in the fall of 2005 for theconstruction of the so-called NordStream pipeline. Covering a distance ofaround 1 200 km through the Baltic Sea,the Nord Stream pipeline will be laidfrom Vyborg (Russia) to the GermanBaltic coast near Greifswald(1).

As early as 2005, European energyprovider Wingas (Kassel), a subsidaryof Wintershall Holding (Kassel) andGazprom export agreed on arrange-

Gazprom, and Wintershall, Germany’slargest crude oil and natural gas pro-ducer. The firm is active in natural gastrading and distribution in Germany,Belgium, France, Great Britain, Austria,the Czech Republic and Denmark, and,in the role of an EPC, responsible for theerection of OPAL and NEL. Another no-table example of Wingas’ constructioncompetence is the largest natural gasstorage facility in Western Europe, inRehden. It represents roughly a fifth ofthe entire storage capacity in Germanyand thus makes a sustainable contribu-tion towards supply security in thecountry. Key business figures for 2009are:

7,6 billion Euro Net Sales (-15,8 per-cent compared to 2008), 392 MillionEBIT (±0 percent), and 382 employees(+4 percent).

In a talk with our editor, ChristianManshausen, piping design engineerand responsible for the CAD-system atcompany’s Kassel-site, spoke about thesuccessful introduction and deploymentof CADISON® R9 for a redundant freeand integrated 2D/3D design process.Before the introduction of the designplanning suite in January 2009, a de-tailed benchmarking has shown upsoon that CADISON® will be on the shortlist: “Since we are in close cooperationwith architects, one of a our main se-lection criterias was”, Mr Manshausenremembers, “that the future tool shouldrun on top of the Autocad platform toavoid interoperability problems.” Andthis in fact is true for CADISON®. Fur-

mat (MS Excel). Wingasuses Eplan PPE (2) for theelectrical documentation,and Autodesk Navisworksfor design review, clash de-tection and the generationof 3D renderings. But: “Al-though clash detection canautomatically be per-formed by Navisworks Iprefer to trust my own eyes,e.g. analyzing manuallybelow grade intersectionsof pipings and cabletrays”, Mr Manshausensays.

Due to its large size, thedesign of the natural gas reception sta-tion at the German Baltic Sea shore isnot of a straightforward type. The Lub-min site will process more than 55 Bil-

lion m3 natural gas annually. There, thegas comes on land and first will becleaned, then pre-warmed and after-wards re-duced in pressure. To meetvery high safety standards, all equip-ment items have to be carefully dimen-sioned and analyzed already during theplanning phase. That was the reasonwhy a few years ago Mr Manshausenhas decided to choose the CAE appli-cation Rohr2 (3). The CAE applicationcalculates the elasticity of piping forvarious cases (operating, emergencyblow down, etc.).

For Mr Manshausen it was obviousthat only an automated data exchangebe-tween the plant design tool and theCAE program guarantees the fulfillmentof the comprehensive requirements.Hence, the vendor was asked to delivera powerful interface between both tools.Indeed, under active support by MrManshausen and in close cooperationwith Sigma1, ITandFactory pro-grammed an error-free tool-to-tool com-munication: A remarkably high successrate in between 95 and 99 percent of alldata imports to Rohr2 could be realized.This is a fantastic value for an interface

proving that the team did a very goodjob. Within minutes the data import intoRohr2 and the corresponding prepro-cessing is finished. And by the way, inorder to run a calculation process onlyby pushing a button such a high qualityinterface is absolutely necessary; oth-erwise one has to interrupt the processrepeatedly and check the results manu-ally.

Progress never stops, and Wingaswants to go further as well. Mr Man-shausen has in mind a bidirectional in-terface between CADISON® and Rohr2:“Modifactions on the design made

within the Rohr2 application shouldbe automatically referenced back to theCADISON® database”, Mr Manshausenexplains. If this is realized a closed loopbetween design and calculation willpush forward the engineering processonto the next level of efficiency. But atthe moment some patience is request-ed. According to ITF’s managing direc-tor, Georg Kremer, this feature will beavailable in 2011 or in 2012. But Wingaswill not have to wait to the brand new 64bit version of CADISON®. It will be pre-sented during the InternationalCADISON® Conference 2010, takingplace end of September in Darm-stadt/Germany, and will be released bythe end of this year.

thermore, the system provider, ITand-Factory GmbH based in BadSoden/Germany (ITF), convinced withremarkable short reaction times on anykind of inquiries. “One face to the cus-tomer was crucial for us”, Mr Man-shausen adds, meaning that Wingaswould like to have only one vendor de-livering the plant-engineering-IT tools,namely Autocad updates, 2D/3D plantdesign, and review tools to avoid mis-understandings in responsibilities forthe support. In summary the CAD-re-sponsible states: “Most of the specialrequests ITandFactory could fulfill im-mediately. In particular, we really appre-ciate the direct access to vendor’ssoftware development department ifsomething had to be customized”.

Now, five seats of CADISON® Re-lease 9 are running on top of Autocad2010 in Kassel. They are used to gen-erate the P&IDs and the detail engi-neering in 3D (3D-Models, isometrics,reports, etc.). Objects for standardequipment items are defined under thehelp of the catalogue application Mat-pipe, non-standard parts are modeledby using spe-cial functions of Autocad.All this information is also used creatingisometrics. The database of CADISON®,a licensed product from Versant, works“fast and absolutely reliable”, as MrManshausen assures, preventing theusers from data redundancy. Most ad-vantageous of the system architectureis its ability to provide a total integrated2D/3D design process.

PID-Designer for Visio® is completely integrated into Mi-crosoft Visio Professional (2007 and 2010) and is mar-keted by ITandFactory as an independent product. Itfrequently happens in the project business that P&ID’s areto be delivered even in the DWG/DXF format because ofcontractual obligations. Unfortunately, the standardDWG/DXF-Export for Visio provides only insufficient resultswith drastic discrepancies of “technical information” indrawings so that such information is sometimes no longersufficient for users.The following problems are identified by product man-agement of ITandFactory:· Faults in conversion of shapes: For instance, circlesare exported as ellipses, or ellipses become distorted· Line colors of shape geometries and links are notadopted correctly· Line thicknesses are not adopted correctly· Fillings and/or hatching patterns seam to belost· Line ends (arrow heads) are not adopted

P&ID-Designer is based on the Autocad graphics enginewhile the more recent development PID-Designer for Visio® isbased on Microsoft Office Visio (3). Both solutions work withthe object-oriented CADISON® database. CADISON® inte-grates the engineering workflow in one system and conse-quently accelerates the planning process significantly.

Besides the main modules such as Project-Engineer, P&ID-Designer, 3D-Designer, Electric-Designer and Matpipe (pipeclasses and components), for special applications, add-onmodules are available for ERP interfacing, archiving, stresscalculation, web project access and steel construction.

Users can enjoy the benefits of the CADISON® database– multisite working, access to symbol libraries, freely selec-table standards, consistency checks and report generation.The labelling system (the standard is DIN + KKS) can be ex-tended specific to customer needs. “Both solutions are defi-nitely justified,” comments Sebastian Dörr, Sales Director forEurope, “and address different user levels. If a user works withAutocad, he’ll probably want to continue working with P&IDon this platform as he is already familiar with the user inter-face and mode of operation.” Dörr adds: “If, however, the userwants to take a new direction and wants to equip engineeringand sales with one common tool, then we recommend P&IDson the basis of the intuitively operated Microsoft Office Visio.”

The two solutions have the same scope of functions. Thedeciding criteria are the operability and the price – and onprice, the Microsoft Office-based solution is unbeat-able. Andboth tools permit individual customizing, to adapt, for exam-ple, the attributes for layers, line styles, colours or fonts tocompany standards.

As CADISON® is always used as a data pool, naturally itis also possible to generate any reports and lists, such as a

So the tender planner can create the first flowchart withCADISON® P&ID designer by drag & drop and derive the firstlists for tenders or quotation requests.

In the next step, detail planning is completed at the 3D de-signer workstation. In each case, changes in all CADISON®

modules are made visible, eliminating any risk of incorrectplanning. If an object is added during 3D detail engineering,this can also be displayed and edited in the P&ID-Designeras well as in the Project-Engineer.

Talking about being spoilt for choice, Dörr says: “Thechoice naturally depends on the requirements of the potentialuser: Who is going to work with the solution? Another issue isno doubt the industry! The Autocad-based solution is ac-cepted in the traditional planning markets – thanks to its famil-iar user interface, the Microsoft-based solution is not tied tothe process industry and is, so to speak, open to all industries.

For ITandFactory the answer is meanwhile clear: “Wetherefore favour PID-Designer for Visio®,” explains Dörr andpoints out that PID-Designer for Visio® is to be used increas-ingly in tackling new markets.

CADISON® R10.1 –

Advanced Security ConceptCADISON® intrinsically has a fully perfect security concept. Each access to project data and files is secured throughthe user administration.

Let us take CADISON® Project-Engineer for example:· Project-Engineer is started and· The user must perform the CADISON®-Login (after that,CADISON® controls all further accesses to projects and as-sociated files).· Project selection appears in the form of a Tree-Dialog. Theuser has to select a project – and the user verification fol-lows to make sure that the registered user has the right toget access to the selected project.· Provided the access is assumed, the project will be opened.· In addition to that, the so-called visibility control in the proj-ect defines which user is authorized to get access to cer-tain objects.

· This mechanism forms even the basis for administration of doc-uments and document groups in the database. Thus only “au-thorized access” via the “Tree” in Project-Engineer is possible.

Consequently, the CADISON® database has one database“File” for each file existing in the file system (drawing, list, reportetc.) – the reference to a physically existing file. All files arestored in a central project repository on the CADISON® File-server. The extended safety concept of CADISON® R10.1 re-sponds here and controls such cases of access. In the futureaccess to projects will be approved or prohibited in a more dif-ferentiatedmode. Among others, revised files are stored so thatthey are made unchangeable.

Enhanced 2D-Extraction for supporting

the assembly processSome of the CADISON®-users are asking for a 2D-extraction.What do we understand and what is the technology behind?Normally all needed information about a plant could be vieweddirectly in the 3D-model. Also it is possible to create multiplesections of this model.Usually manufacturers or workshops don’t have the powerfulCAE-Tools like designers have. Therefore they need easier dig-ital prints or at least only a paper print. Nevertheless do theyneed exact data about the design. Here we go with the new

2D-Extraction: This interface calculates a 3D construction-planinto a 3D-model – but converted in a 2D-area. So the first lookis exact the one on the screen, but in reality it’s a print on apaper.

The advantage of this 2D-Extraction is to have more precisionwithin all the descriptions and measurements. So a manufac-turer can get the exact length out to the plan – and if dimen-sioning is missing – with a ruler direct from the print.

The process for creating pipelines is a workflow throughthe whole engineering process and differs from company tocompany. The planner has to go through different steps, whilethe Project Manager needs the information at every time. Thework is normally done from different people at different times.So it is the difficult for the Project Manager, to have an overviewto the real status in pipeline working. The checklist below helpthe planner to go true each point in the workflow, where he hasto sign every step in his work.

Needless to say, that you also can create this list in-side CADISON® and work on it to share it with the otherplanners!
