Rule of the Week
Working bee before the big movie night Many thanks to everyone who helped at the working bee last Sunday in preparation for the big movie night. The grounds look
great and particular mention goes to Janine Roberts for the incredible staffroom garden makeover. What a difference it has
made! Don‟t forget to buy your tickets to Despicable Me on the big
outdoor screen online!
Book Week, Book Parade and a Flash Mob! Mrs Judd, our teacher/librarian, was hard at work in the library with Book Week and the Book Fair last week. The book parade
was a huge success and the flash mob was a big hit too! Thank
you Karen Wardlaw and Stage 3 for encouraging us all to dance!
Athletics Last Thursday I attended the first day of the Brisbane Water zone
athletics carnival. It was an unusually hot day for this time of year and tested out the competitors. I am very pleased to say
that the KPS kids were an absolute credit to our school.
They had many successes on the day and had exemplary behaviour both on and off the field. Mr Smith has included
detailed results in this newsletter. Well done everyone and congratulations to the children who go on to compete at Sydney North level. Thank you to Miss Ennis and Mr Smith for
accompanying the children to Mingara for two days of competition.
Uniforms Teachers have had a daily check of uniform this week and
reported the results to me. While doing the daily checks it has become apparent that there are a lot of students who could be
more careful with their possessions and a number of children who have others‟ belongings. Parents and carers, can you please check that the items of clothing, including hats, belong to your
child and return any that are labelled with another student‟s name. We will try hard to match everyone with their own
possessions.
Just a reminder about what is uniform – black leather shoes or
white joggers for sport, legionnaires or broad brimmed hats and black track-pants or shorts are uniform. There have been a large number of Raben-style canvas slip-on shoes in a rainbow of
colours, black leggings and skinny black jeans or baseball cap-style hats being worn.
Thank you for helping us to look good inside and outside of school!
Rule of the Week
This week‟s rules are about bus lines. Teachers and students practised and talked about the following expectations that relate to our school‟s four values of Care, Courtesy, Cooperation and
Commonsense.
The reason for these rules is that there needs to be smooth
organisation and operation to get children safely on the right bus.
Hope you had a great week at our great school!

Mrs Peters, Miss Ennis and I were very impressed with the KPS
spirit shown at the carnival. KPS placed 2nd overall out of over 20 schools!
Well done to the seven students who made it through to the
Sydney North Carnival at Homebush. They are Ottie Clarke, Chloe Charlton, Karla Nicholls, Bella Matthews, Emily Andrew,

Coles – Sports for Schools Vouchers
A very big thank you to everyone at KPS for your amazing efforts in collecting the Coles vouchers. We look forward to
getting some brand new equipment and apparel in the next few months. Now is the hard part of fitting the thousands and
thousands of vouchers into some very small satchels we even lost some 3S students in there! (Thanks Sarah Carter and Dulce
Polistico for your help!).
‘A MOUNTAIN OF MULCH MOVED’
Thank you to the following parents, staff and students for giving generously of your time last weekend, to help with
the spreading of mulch on the many garden beds around the school.

FESTIVAL OF INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE Six of our extremely talented and hard working students at-
tended the „Festival of Instrumental Music‟ on Monday August 27. The girls have put in eight months of solid practice and it cer-
tainly paid off. The night was magic.
We would like to acknowledge and thank Eva Weiermann for the tireless hours she has put into her students, and the wonderful
back-stage mums for making sure all went well for the girls.

Book Fair
Thank you for supporting our 2012 Book Fair. Our commission is two tote trays full of books, and some
credit to purchase more books later in the year. I send out a special thank you to Deb Scarlett and Megan Cranney for
all their assistance. I wouldn‟t have managed without them. These special events are made possible through the
support of our parent body.
Book Week Parade Our special parade guest, Geronimo
Stilton, was a big hit with students,
staff and parents. Students paraded
with their sandwich boards that had
been made in class, displaying their
favourite book and a character from
that book. It was obvious that all
classes had dedicated a lot of effort to
this project. Well done teachers and students. Geronimo
thought that all the sandwich board displays were wonder-
ful, and he loved our flash mob dance at the end.
Geronimo asked me to let you know how much he enjoyed
coming to our book week parade, and he wishes you all
“happy reading”.
Wake Up and Read
Our school performance of Wake Up and Read will be this Friday morning. Please check that the note and payment
have been returned to school.
