I realise that this is inconvenient for some of you but OHS legislation requires me to take action to prevent accident or injury to people or risk heavy penalties. As I have been informed by someone qualified to give this advice, I was obliged to act. I apologise for the closure and will advise when we have found a permanent solution to the danger. Thank you for your co-operation. Student contact details Before the holidays, can you make every effort to advise us of changes to your personal contact and emergency contact details. In addition, please review whom you have listed as emergency contacts. In the last couple of weeks we have been unable to contact a number of parents or emergency contacts due to changed or disconnected phone numbers and people no longer being listed for contact when parents are unavailable. The P & C pays for ambulance cover for all children at school in the event that a child needs transport to hospital, but school staff can not accompany children. An updated detail sheet will be sent home with this newsletter; please mark any changes in red pen and return before the end of term. Even if there are no changes, please return it with your child’s name and “no changes” written on it. Thanks for your help. Please note that, in some instances, previous addresses are also listed. This is a requirement of a new system that old addresses are not deleted, however, we know which is your current (new) address. NAPLAN Next term students in years 3 and 5 across the country and across all school systems will sit national tests in literacy and numeracy. In Week 4 of term 2 all of our students will begin tests from 11 May. These tests provide important information for school staff to develop individual and school wide programs, so your child’s attendance every day and for all sessions is very important. Just under 112 books were returned to the school. A double thank you to those who sent more than 1 book back. The raffle raised $1689.20 which is the approximate cost of 4 new sandpits with covers. So parents, you just bought the kids their sandpits. Well done! Class 1S won for the most books returned—17 in total. Winners of the 13 prizes will be in the next newsletter—Good luck! A special mention to Brendon Nunn who sold the most books and had to look at Easter eggs every day without touching them. Thank you again for your support. The PanvaxR vaccine is available free from most general practitioners and Aboriginal Medical Services. Some community health centres and council immunisation clinics are also offering the vaccine free of charge. Easter Raffle Thank you to the wonderful parents who supported this raffle. Just under 112 books were returned to the school. A double thank you to those who sent more than 1 book back. Parish Sacramental Program at Holy Cross Parish

Children in Year 3 and above who have made their First

Reconciliation are eligible to make their First Eucharist. Our parent information evening is being held on Tuesday, 20 April, at

7:00 pm at Holy Cross School, Kincumber. At this evening you will be able to fill in an enrolment form and be put into home

SOCIAL CLUBS

For Boys and Girls aged 8—18 years old

Parents/Carers of Boys and Girls aged 8—18 years with an autism spectrum disorder are invited to register their child

in our

SOCIAL CLUBS PROGRAM

The Social Clubs program aims to provide participants with:

• regular opportunities to meet and make new friends

and to interact in structured but relaxed, stimulating and fun recreational environments;

• One, two or occasionally three hour sessions

(depending on participants’ age and the nature of the event) involving a range of activities to foster participants’ talents and interests, as well as other structured activities to help promote social skills and sense of social connectedness, emotional well-being and physical health;

• Opportunities to engage in age-appropriate events

such as concerts, talent showcases, exhibitions, parties and dances; and

• Formal and informal opportunities to share

experiences and feelings with each other, guest speakers and trained group facilitators.

The Social Clubs will be categorised into three types:

• Groups of mixed boys and girls from 8-12 years old;

• Groups of girls from 13-18 years old; and

• Groups of boys from 13-18 years old.
