NEW BACK ISSUE POLICY FOR 1994$ 10 PER TITLE ON RENEWAL ORDERS RECEIVED AFTER 31 MARCH

ASM has recently reviewed its policies governing back issues. Because of the excessive costof filling back copy orders, ASM will, for the first time in 1994, charge a back issue fee onrenewals received after 31 March 1994 and on any new subscriptions ordered by renewingmembers after 31 March 1994. By charging a back copy fee of $10 per title in 1994, ASM canbreak even on all back copy costs.ASM does not wish to profit from late renewals but rather seeks to encourage on-time

renewals. This new policy will allow a 90-day grace period each year (1 January-31 March)within which all members will receive back copies at no additional cost.

Effective with 1994 renewals, the following rules will apply:(1) All members submitting renewals received at ASM by 1 November 1993 are guaranteed

receipt of all 1994 journals beginning with the first issue of the year.(2) All members submitting renewals received at ASM after 1 November 1993 and before 31

March 1994 are guaranteed delivery of all 1994 issues, including those that must be shippedfrom back copy storage, at no additional charge. However, there might be an interruptionin delivery due to late receipt of the renewal request.

(3) All members submitting renewals received at ASM after 31 March 1994 will be guaranteed all1994 issues beginning with the next available issue. All prior 1994 issues may be shipped, onan "as available basis," from back copy storage for a fee of $ 10 per title, prepaid, and withno returns for refunds allowed.

This notice will appear frequently in ASM News. Further, all 1994 renewals will containinformation about the new policy. If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them tothe ASM Membership Department, ASM Headquarters, 1325 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Wash-ington, DC 20005-4171, or call the Member HOTLINE at (202)942-9319.
