    Volumetric efficiency is affected mainly by a few separate

    phenomena. Flow restriction in ports is proportional to the

    square of latent flow capability, that means that Ve fromlatent pumping capability and flow restriction only, Vef can

    be written Vef=(1-k0*(Displacement*RPM)^2)*100%

    where k0 is a flow restriction constant that depends on

    the general tuning of the cylinderhead and valvetrain.

    Tuned intakes and exhausts affect cylinder filling by

    supercharging cylinders by means of acoustic waves and

    kinetic gas energy at a certain peak (tuned) RPM, it can

    be written Vet=Vef*k1, where k1 varies by normal

    distribution over max ~50% of the RPM range. Values

    1.0...1.3 can be considered normal and somewhat

    possible to achieve for skilled tuners. Adverse camshaft

    effects, i.e. intake dilution from wide overlap, intakepulsations (spitback) from (too) late intake closing etc.
