Protea Survey Instrumentation, formed in 1986 by Dirk van der Walt, is a family runsurvey supply business based to the East of Johannesburg.

Protea has grown organically over the 20 years since its inception, and today plays amajor role in the supply and after sales support of a broad range of equipment rangingfrom traditional survey equipment, including the latest technology GPS products, tomachine control, lab equipment and soil testing.

With a commitment to quality and professional service, the company has gainedacceptance as a supplier, with more than 300 clients including many of the majorcompanies in South Africa. A large and growing export business, with branches locatedin several of the adjoining countries, has also contributed to the success of this multi-disciplinary organization.

Large fully equipped workshops provide a full range of services for repair andcalibration of equipment, all carried out strictly in accordance with supplier criteria andinternationally approved codes of practice.The Protea laboratory has achieved calibration accreditation ISO specification ISO/IEC17025, for both Density and Dimensional categories of approval by SANAS, the SouthAfrican National Accreditation System authority.

Staff training has always been taken seriously at Protea so as to ensure that overseasprinciples are professionally represented at all times. Technical training has almostexclusively been provided by the equipment manufacturer either by visiting specialistsor at the supplier offices in the country of origin.
