Diocesan Social Ministries Collection Ash Wednesday, February 18

Each parish does what it can to address the needs of the people who live within their area but there are many people whose needs cannot be met by their parish alone. The Diocesan Social Ministries help these people through social service agencies like Catholic Charities, San Jose Clinic and St. Vincent de Paul Society. At this time, the beginning of Lent, let us think of the needs of our neighbors and offer alms for their benefit.

Black and Indian Missions Collection Next Weekend

Many new evangelization efforts are being made in the Black, Indian, Eskimo and Aleute communities. This collection supports evangelization efforts for some of the neediest people across the United States; from the inner cities of the rural South and from the deserts of the Southwest to Alaska’s cold wilderness. Through your gifts, you join in sacrifice with those who sacrifice daily to lead others to Christ.

Colecta para el Ministerio Social Diocesano El Miércoles de Ceniza, 18 de Febrero

Cada parroquia hace lo que puede para sensibilizar a la comunidad sobre las necesidades de la gente que vive en su propia área aunque hay muchas necesidades que la gente tiene y que la parroquia sola no puede solucionar. El Ministerio Social Diocesano ayuda a esas personas a través de agencias de servicio social como las Caridades Católicas, la Clínica San José y la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paul. En este momento en que iniciamos nuestro tiempo de Cuaresma, pensemos en las necesidades de nuestros vecinos y ofrezcámosles a ellos una ayuda generosa que los beneficiará enormemente.

¡Agradecimientos! ¡Gracias a todos los que contribuyeron y un agradecimiento a nuestra comunidad por su ayuda el proyecto de recolección de comida del equipo ventura. Se recogieron 414 libras de comida que representan 345 comidas para las personas necesitadas. Gracias por ayudarnos a tener éxito en este importante proyecto.

OLMC School News Day 2 of Catholic Schools Week started off with Soup for Seniors. It was a wonderful event attended by seniors of the community along with seniors from neighboring parishes. The event began with Mrs. Jenkins, OLMC Music Teacher, along with students from Kindergarten and First Grade performing songs much to the delight of the seniors. Mrs. Sophia Holton, Fundraiser Coordinator, commented: "We received many compliments from the seniors on how pleased they were with the food, music and students." The soup, Caldo de Pollo, (Chicken Soup) consisting of Chicken Breast meat and vegetables, was served along with homemade Spanish Rice, warm corn tortillas and iced tea - an utterly delicious meal. The OLMC 8th Grade also assisted in providing hospitality services:

Parish Hall set up, welcoming the Seniors as they arrived and serving them their meal. Several OLMC parents also participated by volunteering to assist in the kitchen and clean up - a true God send! We would like to thank all those who participated and made it possible for the success of the event. It's this type of communal efforts that make a difference. Thanks and God bless you.

Noticias de la Escuela OLMC El segundo día de las Escuelas Católicas comenzó con una sopa para los ciudadanos de la tercera edad. Fue un evento maravilloso en el que asistieron las personas mayores de la comunidad, junto con las personas mayores de las parroquias vecinas. El evento comenzó con la interpretación que hizo la señora Jenkins, la profesora de música de OLMC, de canciones muy hermosas, y junto con los estudiantes de jardín y del primer grado pusieron canciones en escenas para el deleite de las personas mayores. Sra. Sophia Holton, coordinadora de recaudación de fondos, dijo: "Hemos recibido muchos elogios de los adultos mayores en lo que tuvo que ver con la comida, la música y los niños estudiantes." La sopa, caldo de Pollo, que consiste en carne de pechuga de pollo y verduras, se sirvió junto con arroz español casero, tortillas de maíz caliente y té helado - una super deliciosa comida. El grado 8vo. de OLMC también ayudó en la prestación de servicios de

hospitalidad: organización del Salón Parroquial, la bienvenida a los mayores a medida que llegaban y la ayuda al servir las comida. Varios padres de familia de OLMC también participaron como voluntarios en la ayuda en la cocina y en la limpieza - verdaderos enviados de Dios! Queremos dar nuestros agradecimientos a todos los que participaron e hicieron posible el gran éxito de este evento. Este tipo de esfuerzos comunes marcan la diferencia. Medical technology has provided many life-saving discoveries over the years, but there is still no substitute for blood. In a medical emergency, often the most important element is the availability of blood. Blood donations can help a variety of individuals: trauma victims, surgery patients, premature babies, individuals with anemia, cancer patients and many more. Every donation can help save as many as three lives. Thank you!
