Our quarterly newsletter is called Connections, and now it is available online at our website. In order to save costs associated with printing in color and mailing a hard copy, we have posted it online. A limited number of hard copies is available on the tables in the narthex of the Church. Next weekend will be a historic moment for our parish. For the first time we will be offering the ACTS retreat in Spanish. In fact, we will be the first parish in the Diocese of Dallas to do that. The Lord is really blessing us with the ACTS renewal, and 430 parishioners have already participated. Please pray for our retreatants from next Thursday through Sunday. Also next weekend will be special in other ways too. The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is always celebrated on September 14, which most of the time falls on a weekday. But next Sunday is the 14th, and so we will celebrate this glorious feast. Another special emphasis will be Catechetical Sunday, when Faith Formation begins and when we pray at all Masses for our catechists and for our students as they learn how to be great disciples of Jesus. Another special thing is a short announcement next weekend about a new ministry that is forming, the Hearing Loss Ministry. A number of parishioners have told us that it is a little hard to understand the spoken word. We designed the Church indeed with that in mind, and we have an existing FM Hearing System with special devices to assist those with hearing loss. In the next few weeks we will give you more information and then offer a training class on the use of these devices. We want everybody to be able to hear the Word of God. By the way, it dawned on me that September 1 was the 14th anniversary of the death of our founding pastor, Fr. Joseph Mitchell. We will have an outdoor marble bench honoring his memory, courtesy of a sponsoring parishioner.

Otro énfasis especial será el Domingo Catequético, cuando las clases de Formación de Fe (catecismo) comienzan y cuando pedimos en todas las Misas por nuestros catequistas y estudiantes mientras que aprenden como ser grandes discípulos de Jesús. Otra cosa especial es un anuncio breve el próximo fin de semana sobre un nuevo Ministerio de la Pérdida de Audición que se está formando. Un número de feligreses nos han dicho que es un poco difícil entender el lenguaje hablado. Diseñamos ciertamente la iglesia con eso en mente, y tenemos un Sistema de Audio FM que existe con aparatos especiales que asisten a aquellos con pérdida de audición. En las próximas semanas les daremos más información y después ofreceremos una clase de capacitación para utilizar estos aparatos, comenzaremos las pruebas en las Misas de español. Queremos que todos puedan escuchar la Palabra de Dios. Por cierto, se me ocurrió que el 1º de septiembre fue el 14º aniversario de la muerte de nuestro párroco fundador, el P. Joseph Mitchell. Tendremos una banca afuera de mármol hon-rando su memoria gracias a la generosidad de un feligrés quien donará la banca.

CLOTHE A CHILD

The Clothe a Child mission is to assist the clothing needs of economically disadvantaged children in our com-munities through partnership with Kohl’s Department Store. The goal is to provide children with a $100 voucher for their clothing needs and to acquire volunteers for the shopping experience. The Clothe a Child community has set a goal for this year to be: 3,000 children and 1,800 volun-teers.

The 2014 goal for St. Francis is to clothe 300 children and to acquire 300 volunteers! The children of our community are in great need of you help and support! Please don’t miss out on this great opportunity to give back to your community. The shopping special event dates are: October 4th, 11th, and 18th.
