While continuing to provide unique new solutions for integratedproduct development processes and teamwork optimization,CATIA Version 5 Release 3 enhances the product set to expandcompetitiveness in design, styling, optimization, PDM integration,and knowledgeware technology. This release introduces significantnew function to leverage the strength and scalability of Version 5’snext generation, object-oriented architecture.

The new DMU Optimizer 2 product computes an optimizedrepresentation of data for verification in the context of the fulldigital mockup. By generating a light external envelope, theOptimizer allows designers involved in the pre-validation ofprototype assembly and maintenance procedures at the designstage to handle digital mockups of all sizes

For plant designers, Release 3 introduces the CATIA Plant Layout 2product. This product enables organizations to optimize their layoutprocess for production facilities to foster optimized factory productionand output. It provides an accessible solution for departments ofsmall- and medium-sized enterprises.

Companies of any size can benefit from CATIA Version 5’s uniqueknowledgeware technology. Release 3 provides another step forwardin knowledge-based product development and corporate know-howmanagement. CATIA Version 5 is packaged to provide an easy way to selectthe optimum solution best suited to user profile requirementsand processes. At the heart of this model are configurationsmade up of individual products organized on two differentplatforms: P1 and P2. These platforms are targeted at twospecific levels of customer need.

Platform P1 provides core modeling for small and mid-sizeprocess-centric customers wanting to extend their designcapabilities to embrace digital product definition and toposition themselves for e-business. The P1 look and feel isbased on pure Microsoft Windows, giving unmatched easeof learning and ease of use. P1 is also an excellent solutionfor existing customers which can address many supportingareas of their business by making CATIA accessible to peoplewho previously could not justify 3D modeling. P1 integratesgrowth capacity for customer methodologies, from interactive2D drafting to full digital product development processes.

Platform P2 provides a unique environment for process-centriccustomers to create their digital enterprise by modeling theirproducts, processes and resources, thus supporting theirend-to-end product lifecycle from concept to product-in-operation. It allows hybrid design based on form and fit throughfunction as part of an integrated digital mock-up. P2 enablesknowledge-driven design that captures and reuses a company’sintellectual capital to support engineering intuition, creativityand innovation while allowing engineers to rapidly iterateerror-free design alternatives. P2’s innovative “3D Windows”user interface delivers increased productivity and fun.

Data created in one platform can be easily used, asappropriate, by a product from another platform. For example,data from one platform can be added to by a product fromanother platform. Also, a model from one platform can bereferenced to allow “design in context” from within a productof the other platform.

ConfigurationsEach listed configuration is made up of a predefined setof products, corresponding to the most common user profilesacross industries and processes. These configurations areoffered at an attractive price compared to the sum of theindividual product prices.

Configurations are a convenient and cost-effective way to orderand install a selected combination of products for each userprofile. A configuration is required for each CATIA seat.

Any configuration can be customized by “adding on” appropriateCATIA Version 5 products. In this way, users can build justthe right combination of functions while still benefiting fromthe attractive pricing of a prepackaged solution.

ProductsProducts are the elementary software building blocks for CATIAVersion 5 installations and may be ordered in three ways:

CATIA Team PDM 1 (TD1)A Platform P1 infrastructure productLets users store, manage and share all common informationrelated to an engineering project. CATIA CBD allows users toimport an electronic assembly from an ECAD system in orderto evaluate the circuit board design in the full context product.Conversely, this product can be used to design circuit boardsin the context of the overall mechanical design and then sendpertinent information, such as spatial and technologicalconstraints, back to the ECAD system. Transfer using a neutralformat permits data exchange with a variety of ECAD systems.

Users can define behaviors, formulas,rules and checks (such as for manufacturing cycle attributesincluding costs, surface finish or feed rates) which canthereby be taken into account early in the design. A checkoption highlights the parameters involved in a verification;making it easier to understand in what way a corporatestandard has been violated. “How to” functions and “what if”scenarios allow users to explore design alternatives prior tocomputing geometrical results.

CATIA Knowledge Expert 2 (KWE)A Platform P2 infrastructure productKnowledge Expert 2 enables a customer to build up andshare corporate knowledge in rules-driven databases.Captured rules and checks can be applied across theenterprise to ensure compliance with established designstandards. The product delivers a unique way to specify therules and checks required to ensure compliance with bestpractices. Reports available from CATIA Knowledge Expert 2help identify standards violations and to implement thenecessary corrections.

CATIA Version 4 Integration 2 (V4I)A Platform P2 infrastructure productHelps existing CATIA Version 4 customers take advantage ofthe advanced technologies of Version 5 while preserving theirinvestment in V4 data. This product facilitates the integrationbetween the two versions. Upward compatibility allows muchof the V4 data to be referenced by V5 or converted to V5 data.Downward compatibility enables V5 geometry to be loadedinto V4 sessions for analysis, manufacturing and otherdownstream processes.
