Minutes for August 5, 2015 NEOVC Meeting

The meeting was called to order by the President, Paul Reynolds, at 6:20 PM on Wednesday, August 5 with 25 members in attendance. Our July picnic was a success and a lot of fun. We enjoyed everyone’s friendship along with the good food. It was an extremely hot and humid afternoon, but at least it didn’t rain! Sam Mansell has planned dinners at the Welshfield Inn, Monday August 10 and at Alfredo’s, Thursday, August 27 for our two August socials. Ed Suit discussed the final plans for the Aurora Farms Vette Exhibit on Saturday, August 8. He showed those present a map highlighting the staging area and the area where we will be parking our Vettes. We have 26 cars lined up to be in the exhibit. All cars need to be in the staging area by 9 AM so they can be directed to their parking spot and in place before the stores open up. Paul Reynolds went over all job assignments for our Tim Lally Car Show on Sunday, August 16, along with the information we want Frank LaManna to announce on that day. Several other items pertaining to our show were: 1) All workers need to be at the dealership at 7 AM. 2) The Chevy cars will be mixed in with the Corvettes as we did last year. 3) Trophies, Chinese Raffle and 50/50 will be announced in that order. 4) Sam Mansell, Ed Suit and Ron Welch will take pictures throughout the event.

Aurora Farms Vette Exhibit August 8

On Saturday, August 8, 2015, North East Ohio Vette Club put on an all Corvette Exhibit at Aurora Farms Premium Outlet. Twenty-four Corvettes were on display featuring examples from all seven generations of Vettes. In order to include most models from all generations, we were assisted by the Chosen Few Corvette Club, as well as the Rock-N-Roll Capital Street Machines. Tim Lally Chevy provided us with a 2015 Stingray. The Vettes had to be in place by 9:45 AM, well before the shops open at 10:00 AM. We began staging the cars at 8:15 AM and by 9:30 AM everyone was in their proper place, parked between flower planters, light posts, benches and

the gazebo area. Three C-7’s were featured in front of the gazebo. Vettes were arranged according to generations. Aurora Farms was jammed with people as it was tax-free weekend and stores were offering special sales. By all accounts the exhibit was extremely successful and attracted crowds throughout the day. Kyle Hersh, Director of Marketing and Business Development, was very satisfied with the exhibit as well as the way we set up and exited. He already indicated to us that he would like us to do something at Aurora Farms next year. I would like to thank all the participants that made this exhibit such a success. I would also like to thank my committee that put this event together: Sam Mansell, Rick Farley and Rose Suit. I would also like to thank Kyle Hersh and his staff at Aurora Farms who were extremely co-operative in assisting us in making this event a success. Ed Suit

Corvettes at Corsa

On Sunday, July 26, 2015, club members Ken Jecmen and Ed and Rose Suit attended the thirteenth annual “Corvettes at Corsa” Vette Show. This show is held at Corsa Performance Exhaust and Air Intake Systems, an internationally known company that manufactures well-known top quality performance exhaust systems and air intake systems. Their corporate offices and exhaust system manufacturing plant is located in Berea, Ohio. Over 250 Vettes attended the show as for the first time in 13 years, there was no threat of rain. Vettes from all seven generations of Vettes and every conceivable model were represented. Ed and Rose’s Retro ’63 Split Window Coupe took home one of the Top 15 People’s Choice Awards.

Vettemilion Car Show - July 11, 2015 On Saturday, July 11th, several of our club members made their annual pilgrimage to Vermilion for the all Corvette Show, aka Vettemilion, presented by the Lake Shore Corvette Club. Over 200 Vettes attended representing all generations and custom Vettes. Ed and Rose’s Retro ‘63 split window coupe won second place in the custom division. We can’t wait to see the picture taken by the Lake Shore Vette Club of Ed receiving his award as he was photo bombed by DJ Frank LaManna.

Corvette: The Ultimate Rattling Noise Guide

Isolating the cause of rattles can be the difference between an enjoyable Sunday drive and your worst on-road nightmare. With the right techniques and tips, it's something that you can handle without making a trip to the dealership Sometimes, one of the most challenging parts of Corvette ownership is dealing with squeaks and rattles. Rough road conditions, extreme temperatures, and improper removal/installation of components are some of the most common causes of shakes and rattles. Because the Corvette is a performance vehicle with performance suspension and a rigid structure, some squeaks and rattles are common. There is a lot more impact on the vehicle's interior and exterior components compared to your average daily driver. Here are some common locations of rattles related to Corvettes

Convertible Top

A squeak and rattle at the rear of the convertible top can be caused by the seal making contact with the tonneau cover strip. These components can wear overtime and begin to squeak. To resolve the issue, remove the old seal, clean the surface and install a new stow compartment lid protector.

Roof Panel Handles

A snap, pop or rattle noise that comes from the removable roof panel can usually be isolated to the front left and/or right handles. The noise is caused by loose nylon rollers inside of the handles that start to move and make a noise. To resolve this issue, replace the right and left roof panel handles and lubricate all contact points around the roof panel.

Figure 2. Location of left and right roof panel handles.

Rear Quarter Panel

A rattle that comes from the passenger side's rear of the vehicle can be associated with the plastic

molding in the door jamb near the right rear quarter panel vent. When the plastic molding

vibrates, it rattles. To resolve this issue, remove the screw and insert a small rubber washer

between the plastic molding and body panel, then re-install the screw.

Window Regulator

A rattle noise only when rolling the window down can be related to the inside of the door panel and can occur with both the left and/or right window. To resolve this issue, remove the door panel and replace the window regulator.

Rear Sway Bar End Links

A knocking or rattle noise when going over bumps can be the rear of the vehicle resonating from under the chassis. The noise is commonly caused by faulty rear sway bar end links. The bushings become worn and allow the links to make noise while going over bumps. To resolve this issue, replace the rear sway bar end links.

Center Dash Console

A rattle from the center dash console is caused by the plastic tabs at the top of the console that hold the panel in place. Over time, the tabs become loose and cause the panel to rattle. To resolve this issue, install rubber tape or replace the center console if tabs are completely broken/damaged.

Common Questions

How do I prevent rattles and noises?

The best way to prevent noises is to be sure that contact points around the vehicle (hinges, handles, fittings) are lubricated on a regular basis. Also, try your best to avoid large bumps and potholes, and keep the vehicle in a temperature controlled area.

Do rattles indicate poor quality?

No, rattles do not necessarily mean your vehicle is poorly built. Because performance vehicles are so much more rigid than the average vehicle, components tend to wear, vibrate and shake loose, causing rattles.

Pro Tip

Have an assistant drive the vehicle while you use a section of a garden hose or heater hose propped up against your ear to try and isolate the area that the noise is coming from. The hose should be 5-6 feet long so that you can place the hose in various areas around the vehicle.
