and bad features.

Indian culture:

Religion:

India is the only country in the world to

have so many religions and belief Several elements of India's diverse

culture — such as Indian religions, yoga

and Indian cuisine — have had a

 profound impact across the world.

India is the birth place of Hinduism,Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism,

collectively known as Indian religions.

Today, Hinduism and Buddhism are theworld's third- and fourth-largest

According to Eugene M. Makar, arespected industry consultant, traditional

Indian culture is defined by a relatively

strict social hierarchy. He also mentionsthat from an early age, children are

society.[11] This is reinforced by the fact

that many believe gods and spirits havean integral and functional role in

differences such as religion divide theculture.[

family:

Family plays a significant role in theIndian culture. For generations, India has

had a prevailing tradition of the joint

family system. It is a system under

which extended members of a family –

parents, children, the children’s spousesand their offspring, etc. – live together.

Usually, the eldest male member is the

head in the joint Indian family system. He makes all important decisions and

rules, and other family members abide

 by them.

: Marriage:

For centuries, arranged marriages have been the tradition in Indian society

though men and women have always had

the choice of who they want to marry.

Even today, the vast majority of Indianshave their marriages planned by their

 parents and other respected family-

members, with the consent of the brideand groom. Arranged matches are made

after taking into account factors such as

age, height, personal values and tastes, the backgrounds of their families

(wealth, social standing), Marriage their

castes and the astrological compatibilityof the couples' horoscopes.Generally this

is done to reduce culture shock for the

bride and groom as most families areextended families.

In India, the marriage is thought to be

for life,[12] and the divorce rate is

extremely low — 1.1% compared withabout 50% in the United States.[13] The

Festivals:

India, being a multi-cultural and multi-

religious society, celebrates holidays andfestivals of various religions. The four

national holidays in India, the

Independence Day, the Republic Day,the Gandhi Jayanti, and 1st may are

celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm

across India

In addition,

Popular religious festivals include the

Hindu festivals of  Navratri,  Diwali,Ganesh Chaturthi,  Durga puja, Holi,

 Rakshabandhan and Dussehra. Several

harvest festivals, such as Sankranthi,  Pongal , Raja sankaranti swinging

fesival , and Onam," Nuakhai" are also

Animals:

Cows depicted in the decorated

goppuram of the Kapaleeshwarar temple

in Chennai.See also: Wildlife of India, Animalhusbandry in India, and Cattle in religion

In Hinduism, the cow is regarded as a

symbol of ahimsa (non-violence

mother goddess and bringer of goodfortune and wealth.[16] For this reason,

cows are revered in Hindu culture and

feeding a cow is seen as an act of

worship.

cuisine:

The cuisine in India is classified intothree major categories. Sattva, Rajas,

and Tamas. Satva which stand for

balance, Rajas stands for passion, andTamas stands for indulgence. Food is

consumed according to the lifestyle of

the person. For example: A King has to be aggressive to defend his country, he

would be taking food which would give

much passion and that aggressiveness

which is required. When a person tries tolead his life in want of self realisaiton,

he would prefer a Satvic food or known

as Sattvic diet, which would help to keephis mind in balance. Tamasic food or

known as Static foods is to be taken only

if its required, like consumption of Alcohol. This is the reason why in many

Indians try to abstain drinking.

Clothing:

Traditional clothing in India greatly

varies across different parts of the

country and is influenced immensely bylocal culture, geography and climate.

Popular styles of dress include draped

garments such as sari for women and

dhoti or lungi for men; in addition, stitched clothes such as churidar  for

women and kurta- pyjama and European-style trousers and shirts for men, are also

 popular.

Most Indian clothes are made from

cotton which is ideal for the region's hot

weather.[23] Since India's weather ismostly hot and rainy, majority of Indians

Western culture:

The word culture in Western culture is

used very broadly to refer to a heritageof social norms, ethical values,

traditional customs, religious beliefs,

political systems, and specific artifacts and technologies.

Music, art, story-telling and architecture:

Some cultural and artistic modalities are

also characteristically Western in origin

and form. While dance, music, visual art,story-telling, and architecture are human

universals, they are expressed in the

West in certain characteristic ways.

The symphony, concerto, sonata, opera

and oratorio have their origins in Italy. Many important musical instruments

used by cultures all over the world werealso developed in the west.

Many forms of  popular music have been

derived from African-Americans, and

their innovations of  jazz and blues serveas the basis from which much of modern

popular music was derived. Folklore and

music during 20th and 19th centuries,

initially by themselves, but later playedand further developed together with

White & Black Americans, British

 people, and Westerners in general.

Sports:

sport has been an important facet of

Western cultural expression.

. Sports became such a prominent part of their culture that the Greeks created the

Olympic Games, which in ancient timeswere held every four years in a small

village in the Peloponnesus calledOlympia.

The first modern Olympics were held at

Athens in 1986.

Jousting and hunting were popular sportsin the Western Europe of the Middle

Ages,

Football (also known as soccer ) remains

hugely popular in Europe but has grownfrom its origins to be known as the

"world game". Similarly, sports such as

cricket, rugby and netball were exportedaround the world, particularly among

countries in the Commonwealth of

Nations, thus India and Australia are

among the strongest cricketing nations, while victory in the Rugby World Cup

has been shared among the Western Nations of New Zealand, Australia,South Africa and England.

Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of

the International Olympic Committee,

and considered father of the modernOlympic Games.

Scientific andtechnological inventions

and discoveries:

A feature of Western culture is its focus

on science and technology, and itsability to generate new processes,

materials and material artifacts.

It was the West that first developed

steam power and adapted its use intofactories, and for the generation of

electrical power.

Communication devices and systems

including the telegraph, the telephone, radio, television, communication and

navigation satellites, mobile phone, and

the Internet were all invented byWesterners.[23] The pencil, ballpoint pen,

CRT, LCD, LED, photograph,

photocopier, laser printer , ink jet printer ,  plasma display screen and world wide

web were also invented in the West.

Elecricity:

Dress code:

A dress code is a set of rules governing

what garments may be worn together

and in what setting. Examples of dresscodes are combinations such as "smart

casual", or "morning dress".

In traditional Western dressing, for men

the more formal dress codes, such as"black tie", are highly codified with

essentially fixed definitions, mostly

unchanged for more than fifty years, while the more casual classifications

change very quickly, and a worldwide or

widely relevant discussion is impossible. For women, changes in fashion are more

rapid.

Formal

Note that the use of white tie and

morning dress has become fairly rare in

some countries (such as the U.S. andAustralia), where black tie or a lounge

suit (as appropriate) is often worn to the

above events.

Semi-formal

Typical events: Weddings, theatre

opening nights, débutante balls

Indian culture_ western

culture:

Indian culture is rich and diverse and

as a result unique in its very own way.

Our manners, way of communicatingwith one another, etc are one of the

important components of our culture.

Even though we have acceptedmodern means of living, improved our

lifestyle, our values and beliefs stillremain unchanged. A person can

change his way of clothing, way of eating and living but the rich values in

a person always remains unchanged

Page 8: Cell Operated Land Rover

because they are deeply rooted withinour hearts, mind, body and soul which

we receive from our culture.

Western culture can also be referredto as advanced culture; this is because

its ideas and values promote thedevelopment and sustainment of advanced civilization. Western culture

has had quite an influence in india but

it has its pros & cons too. There aremany good things in the western

culture which we have adopted. Butwhy do we see only the negatives?

Even the Indian culture has influencethe western world. the globe is

shrinking & we are all getting closer toeach other in many ways. so its very

natural for us to adopt their ways & for

them to adopt ours

Western culture has affected almostevery dimension of society. The core

religious traditions are still the samebut the life style differences can be

found because of western culture.

Hence we can say that western

media has not affected the coretraditions of indian society but haschanged life style and apparentcharacteristics of the society.

Conclusion: How there is headand tail for a coin there is both

positive and negative impact of western culture and Indian Culture.I think both cultures are unique intheir own way and equally good.

Western culture and Indian cultureboth have good qualities and bad

qualities. We should not think of which culture is better but should

take the good qualities of bothcultures and put it into use in ourlife
