welcometo Warrick County
O n behalf of the Warrick County Chamber of Commerce, I would like to welcome you. Whether you are here for a visit, on business or live here,
you will find Warrick County a friendly place. The land-scape ranges from the beautiful Ohio River to rolling farmland, from dense populated areas to the small towns and quiet rural roads. Warrick County is home to one of the largest employers in southwest Indiana and to some of the smallest mom and pop businesses. No matter what you are looking for, you will find it right here or within an easy drive.
The population of Warrick County is over 60,000 and continuing to grow, making our county one of the fast-est growing counties in Indiana. Housing is affordable throughout the county. Rural lifestyle or suburban living — or anything in between — is available. The churches in Warrick County offer a diversity that speaks to almost everyone’s desire for a religious house of worship.
Economic development in Warrick County works alongside county and local government to make Warrick County a great place to grow a business. A small busi-ness or a large corporation will find Warrick County a business-friendly location. Two interstates cross Warrick County, I-64 running east/west and I-69 heading north/south. Both offer easy transportation access.
The Warrick County school system is tops in gradua-tion rates and ISTEP scores making Warrick County a draw for those looking to raise their family in an excel-lent school environment.
Outdoor recreation opportunities are diverse. Those looking for the perfect fishing or hunting location will find
a variety of locations. If four-wheeling or biking is your choice of fun, many trails are available to meet your skill and enjoyment level. Youth baseball and soccer abound in the area with excellent facilities for youth sports. The Rivertown Trail along the Ohio River is a draw from throughout the area for those wanting to bike, walk or jog while taking in the scenic beauty of the river.
If you are here for a visit, live here, own a business or thinking about starting a business the Warrick County Chamber of Commerce is happy to assist you in any way we can. You can reach the Chamber by calling 812-897-2340 or by emailing [email protected].
Again, welcome to Warrick County. See why we call Warrick County a great place to live, work and play.

Real EstateWith housing costs below the national
averages, it’s no surprise housing sta-tistics are making a splash in Warrick County. Ohio Township has seen the biggest boon to the area, with median home cost at $143,300, this is 7.8 per-cent below the nation’s average for cost of living. A variety of subdivisions encourage creative designs that take advantage of the county’s rolling hills. Modern apartment/condominium proj-ects, as well as senior housing, follow this population boom, too. NerdWallet. com announced that Boonville is the ninth best place in Indiana to raise a young family. www.bestplaces.net.
PopulationWarrick County’s total population is
61,049, a growth of 2.3 percent since the 2010 census (according to data by stats.indiana.edu), including 22,454 households. The population has grown at a consistent rate over the past decade, putting Warrick County as the 11th fastest-growing county in the state.
Boonville, the county seat, has the largest population, with 6,246. New-burgh has a population of 3,325; Chan-dler, 3,423; Lynnville, 888; Elberfeld, 625; and Tennyson 279.
CrimeSmall-town living has its perks. War-
rick County’s crime rate is lower than surrounding areas, with property crimes making up the majority of reported offenses. In 2014, Warrick County reported one murder, the first in several years. Even so, the area still ranks very low in crimes of both the violent and nonviolent nature.

AdministrationWarrick County is administered by a
three-commissioner board elected by the public. The board is responsible for most of the county’s business, including enact-ing ordinances. A seven-member county council handles the financial details, serv-ing as a check and balance for the board of commissioners.
Boonville serves as the county seat, with offices housed in both the historic courthouse and the county judicial center.
The City of Boonville elects a mayor and council to handle the city’s admin-istration, while the towns of Elberfeld, Chandler, Lynnville, Newburgh and Ten-nyson all elect councils to conduct town business.
Protecting the PeopleThe Warrick County Sheriff’s Depart-
ment serves the needs of county resi-dents, while police departments in Boon-ville, Chandler and Newburgh provide protection to their citizens. The Elberfeld community is served by a part-time Town Marshal and Deputy Marshal, in addition to coverage provided by the county sher-iff’s office.
Many of the departments also utilize reserve deputies, volunteers who fill in for officers as needed.
The City of Boonville has the county’s only paid fire department, employing nine firefighters, three captains, a chief and an assistant chief. The Boon Township Fire Territory was recently established, which helps the department better serve town-ship residents as well as those in the city limits.
The remaining communities are served by seven township or town volunteer fire departments, pooling from more than 200 local volunteers. Alcoa Warrick Opera-tions has its own fire department, serving the needs of the aluminum smelting and rolling facility.

In 1977 the Warrick County Museum opened in the 1901 Ella Williams School building. Three floors of exhibits highlight Warrick County’s past. A Washington printing press from the 1880s was used to print the Boonville Standard. Civil War cases feature musical instruments that the Indiana Brigade carried into battle and weapons from the conflict. Antique toys from the 1880s through the 1960s fill the charming nursery room. Step back into the turn of the 19th century to view a one-room school or view decades of clothing from the bustles of 1890 to the dropped waists and short skirts of the 1920s among other exhibits.
Hours: Tuesdays and Wednesdays 1-4 pm and the first and third Saturdays from 11 am --2 pm.
The mission of the museum is to protect, preserve, and promote the history of Warrick County.

makes up slightly more than 85 percent of jobs in the county, followed by nearly 15 percent in government; the remaining jobs are in the farming industry.
In the private sector, manufacturing jobs employ 20 percent of the workforce and offer the highest average pay at $63,874. Other industries include: health care/social services, employing 21.6 percent of Warrick County workers; retail, 12.5 percent; construction, 8.2 percent; professional/technical services, employing 4.7 percent; food service and accommoda-tions, 7.9 percent; transportation/warehousing, 3.1 percent of the workforce; wholesale trade, employing 2.3 percent; arts, entertainment, and recreation, 1.9 percent; and information, 0.5 percent. www.hoosierdata.in.gov.
BusinessWarrick County is thriving with possibilities for business and industry. There is an abundance of quality real estate, includ-
ing established industrial parks that are complete with infrastructure and are wired for instant global access. In addition, Warrick County boasts an excellent transportation network via its road, rail, water and air systems. Further-
more, the county offers businesses several incentives, including a variety of state tax credits, established TIF districts, com-petitive tax phase-in programs, and the area’s rich natural resources. Combined with the area’s skilled workforce, it’s easy to see why Warrick County has established itself as an ideal site for business and industry.
AgricultureAgriculture plays a large role in Warrick Coun-
ty’s survival. Corn and soybean fields are around nearly every turn. Area farmers supply feed corn to many of the nation’s livestock, as well as meet the needs of the tri-state.
Information from the USDA indicates there are 413 farms in Warrick County, comprising a total of 109,932 acres. Of that, a little more than 87,000 acres represents cropland, with the remainder supporting livestock farms. Livestock raised includes cattle, beef and dairy cows, hogs, sheep and chickens.
IndustryWhen Warrick County’s coal industry began
to falter, a new industry came in to pick up the pieces. Alcoa first announced it would open an operation in 1960 in Newburgh, and at that time, thousands of jobs had just been lost. Alcoa now employs more than 2,000 people and remains a cornerstone to industry in the county. It is the county’s largest employer.
Other industries located in Warrick County provide jobs in automotive fabrication, environ-mental control, plastic molding, tower manufac-turing, sheet metal working, cold storage, the lumber industry, race parts fabrication and more.

The museum gives the public a chance to see many tools of the trade, as well as a large display of photographs.

DecemberBoonville Christmas Parade
In 1946, just a year after the end of the second World War, returning sol-diers in Boonville began a local Jay-cees chapter. The group, searching for a way to celebrate the holidays, came upon the idea of a town parade.
Now, more than six decades later, the Boonville Christmas Parade has become the longest-running parade in the state. It annually pulls people from surrounding communities to kick-start the holiday season. The parade also marks the arrival of everyone’s favorite elf, Santa.
Christmas in Olde NewburghThe Christmas season begins
in Newburgh the first weekend in December. The event offers the tra-ditional holiday activities like caroling

Tinsel Town in TennysonThe town of Tennyson sparkles
during the Christmas season. Each December, Build a Better Community sponsors Tinsel Town in Tennyson, which includes a parade, Santa and refreshments.
Christmas in BoonvilleThe Boonville Merchants Assoca-

The event, which featured local people playing the parts in the movie, was the official kickoff to the holiday season, leading up to the annual Christmas parade.

Major Moves, former governor Mitch Daniels’ pet project, had major impacts in Warrick County. S.R. 62 through Chan-dler was restructured and widened, as well as S.R. 261 in Newburgh, providing easier access to the schools along either side.
Businesses have more than 40 motor freight companies to choose from in the region. Two local railway services provide additional ground transportation through-out the county. The Ohio River serves as the southern boundary of Warrick County, giving businesses easy access to transporting their goods by water.
The county recently implemented the Warrick Area Transit System to give resi-dents better access to the county’s more metropolitan areas. Currently, Chandler, Newburgh and Boonville are serviced and routes connect to Evansville’s METS system.

educationschools & extracurriculars
W arrick County is home to 10 public and one private elementary schools, three middle schools, one junior/senior high, two high
schools, an alternative learning center and two high-er-education institutions. Almost 10,000 students are enrolled with the Warrick County School Corporation, the 28th largest in the state.
ISTEP, Indiana’s state-sanctioned testing, is administered each spring to students in grades three through 10, with the Graduation Qualifying Exam administered to sophomores. In 2014, Warrick Coun-ty’s pass rate was 89.8 percent for mathematics and 88.1 percent for English/language arts, well above the state’s average in both areas.
Graduation rates for all three high schools — Cas-tle, Boonville and Tecumseh — are above 91 percent.
In Ohio Township, which has the largest concen-tration of students, public schools spend $8,825 per student. There are approximately 19.5 students per teacher in Ohio Township.
Extracurricular activities round out the curriculum and provide students with opportunities for additional growth through music, theatre, philanthrophy, art, foreign language, writing and more. Among these, high school athletics have a rich tradition in Warrick County. Castle, Boonville and Tecumseh high schools each boast numerous team, as well as individual, state champions.
Due to growth in population, particularly in the southwestern corner of Warrick County, the school corporation has faced many challenges in accom-modating the increasing classroom sizes. In 2007, the school board passed a resolution to adopt a middle school concept. As a result, the school corporation spent approximately $27 million on the construction of the Castle South Middle School in southern War-rick County, while making numerous other upgrades and renovations to its existing schools.
Safety is also of major importance to the com-munity. Over the past couple of years, the Warrick County School Corporation has worked to create secure entryways to each school. In addition, school resource officers have been placed within the schools to help provide added security, as well as a safe option for students to go to when they need help.
School resource officers are provided by the War-rick County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Chandler, Boonville and Newburgh police departments. The Indiana State Police also have a presence in local schools.
W arrick County is home to three hospitals — St. Mary’s Warrick Hospi-tal in Boonville, Deaconess Gateway Hospital and The Women’s Hos-pital, both in Newburgh.
The Women’s Hospital opened in 2001, the first anchor facility on Deacon-ess’ Warrick County campus. It was the first hospital in the area to be solely dedicated to serving women’s needs in surgery, birthing, infertility, outreach and more. In addition, the hospital provides extensive newborn care, offering a Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit.
When Deaconess Gateway Hospital opened in 2006, it brought with it a focus on concentrated areas of care, an emergency department and an opportunity for Deaconess Gateway Campus to become the hub of special-ized medical care in Warrick County. Neurology, cardiology and orthopedics are just a few specialty areas offered at Deaconess Gateway. A partnership with Riley Hospital for Children also provides the hospital a unique opportu-nity to offer specialized pediatric care unavailable anywhere else locally.
St. Mary’s Warrick Hospital is a small, community hospital in Boonville that has served Warrick County residents for a little more than three decades. It is a Critical Access Hospital, offering ambulatory and wellness services. In addition to its emergency room and inpatient care, the hospital campus also provides diagnostic and therapeutic care services to meet the needs of the area’s rural residents.
Warrick County is also home to many nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and assisted living facilities that work with doctors and hospitals to ensure the medical needs of the county are met. With more than 10 elderly-care estab-lishments, residents can be assured that they will always be cared for. The newest addition to senior care is The Village at Hamilton Pointe, an 11-acre senior living campus developed by the Leo Brown Group in Newburgh.
Hamilton Pointe’s full continumum of care includes a 115-bed skilled nurs-ing and rehabilitation facility, a 53-unit assisted living facility and 24 indepen-dent living garden home units.
St. Mary’s has built a new $18.8 million, 44,000 square foot expansion for the new Epworth Crossing. The facility features a new and expanded St. Mary’s Breast Center, Convenient Care East, which will nearly double in size, St. Mary’s Women’s Wellness Center, primary care and specialty physician offices, a highly advanced 3T MRI, lab, digital x-ray and ultrasound all under one roof, a community space for demonstrations such as healthy cooking and a medical equipment and retail store. Additional services include Tai Chi and yoga classes. In January of this year, St. Mary’s opened up its new convenient care facility in Boonville, anchoring itself as a major medical provider for the community.
The Warrick Wellness Trail is the new medical district surrounding the area of Epworth Road and S.R. 66. Anchored by Deaconess Gateway Hospital, the Warrick Wellness Trail has become home to nine other medical practices.
The entire project will take nine phases and will eventually extend Stahl Road all the way to the Newburgh Walmart.

Investing in our SuccessWe call ourselves Alcoans. We are innovators in safety and environmental practices, experts in global business,
and leaders in community organizations. Together, our 2,000 employees create an average economic output
worth $6.63 million per day. In fact, one dollar of every $20 in the area economy can be attributed to our
operation. We’re proud of our contributions. And we’re pleased to be such an important partner in this
