Dear Parents and Carers,
This week has ‘seen’ some very happy year 2 and year 5 children return to school.
Our ‘bubbles’ have been working really well; children have enjoyed being with
their friends and learning and playing in their classroom and in the playgrounds.
Each bubble is kept completely separate from all the other bubbles in other year
groups and this adds to the children’s safety.
This coming week two bubbles of year 4 children will return to school for the
final two weeks of term, completing our reopening for all St Saviour’s School
children. We have now decided to have year 4 in the school building rather than
the church, and they will enter school by the main gate at 8.45am and leave by the
main gate at 2.45pm. It will be so good to have year 4 back!
This Thursday, Mr Dunford-Crozier, our new headteacher, will be at St Saviour’s,
getting to know the school and staff. He will also be at the gate and in the KS2
playground from 8.45 – 9.45am and at the infant gates and in the infant
playground from 2.45 to 3.30pm. Do please come and introduce yourself.
We are really pleased to be able to tell you that two of our year 6 children have
won a special competition set up by Mara’s Mum, Tessa. The competition was
about VE Day on the 8th May 1945. Tessa had interviewed two ladies who were
evacuees during the war, and year 6 children listened to their podcast, answered
questions but then also responded to the war time experiences of Tam and Liz
through either a poem, a letter or a piece of art. Overleaf you can read Xander’s
poem and see Emily’s artwork. Well done to Xander and Emily and to everyone
who submitted an entry. Thank you Tessa for setting this up and for the Book
Token prizes!
Some parents have been asking about what activities will be available for families
during the Summer holidays. Lambeth and Southwark are working together and
this link will give you the details: https://www.mayorsfundforlondon.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/DBG0177-Kitchen-Social-Design-AW-Digital-Version.pdf If you want to register, then you can do so through: summeroffoodandfun.org.uk
As we are drawing near to the end of this academic year, teachers are busy writing
school reports for every child. They will be a little different from our usual reports
because we do not have the data that we usually have, and attendance will only be
up until the 28th February as that gives us the best understanding of regular
school attendance for this academic year. Reports will be given or sent out in the
last week of term.
I hope you have an enjoyable weekend.
Best wishes Mrs Maxted

War Sirens, wailing in the night. Will it ever stop?
Children crying in fright. Will it ever stop?
Wives mourning over fallen soldiers. Will it ever stop?
Running into bomb shelters. Will it ever stop?
Oh war, what a horrible thing. You draw blood and wedding rings. From innocent people’s death, you grow
stronger, making them ask themselves...how much longer?
Why do you keep toying with us, war? We’re like puppets on a string to you. Well we can fight back, and come
back at you.
When will you realize that this isn’t right? That sooner or later, there will be no one left to fight.
Sirens wailing in the night. It could stop.
Children crying in fright. It could stop.
Wives mourning over fallen soldiers. It could stop.
Running into bomb shelters. It could stop.
It’s also our choice too. We have to stop playing along with you.
Think of the survivors, still dreaming about when they nearly got shot by a rifle. Think about the elderly now who
had to live through everything that you made us do.
I know you know what you have to do. Now go and make it right. Because next time there won’t be bombers flying
through the night, no, next time it will be too much for anyone even you. Please, please, please, don’t light the fuse.
