This 16 days tour is meant to be for high mountains lovers. With a progressive acclimatization we will reach our two mains aims which are, the Cayambe (5790m) and the Chimborazo called as well the Ecuador roof with its 6310 meters. You will be accompanied by an Ecuadorian high mountain guide, member of the ASEGUIM (Ecuadorian association of mountains guides)
PROGRAM – Day 1: preferably Friday to match with Zumbahua Market on Saturday
Note: We leave when possible, meals at your expense. Ecuador is a nice country for travelers who want to discover different experiences of taste. There are a huge variety of meals, gourmet restaurants or simply small dining places in markets and villages. Meals mentioned in the program are included and those not mentioned are left to your choice. Your guide and traveling companion will tell you interesting places or restaurants, and may also assist you in your discovery, if you wish. Meals included are indicated as follow: B: Breakfast / L: Lunch / D: Dinner
Day 1: COLONIAL QUITO – THE EQUATORIAL LINE MONUMENT Visit of colonial Quito and Equatorial Line monument. Hotel in Quito. B In Colonial Quito, we´ll go to the Panecillo, small hill overlooking Quito, on which stands the statue of the Virgen de Legarda and delimiting the colonial town of San Francisco de Quito. Then, we will go to the Independence Square, where is located the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace. Walking towards the Plaza de San Francisco, we stop at the Church of the Company of Jesus. Visit the Franciscan Monastery, Baroque monument located in Plaza San Francisco and visit the museum of religious art Fray Pedro Gocial which is right next door. In the Middle of the World, we will visit the site that represents the symbolic pass of the parallel Zero or Equator and its ethnographic museum. Also we will visit the Inti Nan museum showing some physical laws related to gravity and its influence and astronomical knowledge that Aboriginal groups Inca and Pre Inca had.

Day 2: QUITO – ZUMBAHUA MARKET - QUILOTOA - CHUGCHILAN
Departure to Zumbahua located in the heart of the Andes. Visit of Zumbahua’s market. Walking into Quilotoa crater. Hike from Quilotoa to Chugchilán. Dinner and night in Lodge at Chugchilán village. B L (Box lunch) D
Unevenness: 1000 m descent and 400 m ascent - 5 hours hike
Zumbahua market is known for its fair on Saturdays. On a clear day on the way to Zumbahua you can see the Cotopaxi cover with snow. In the typical market, you can see the vegetable stalls, people selling
animals like horses and llamas, masks and other wood carvings created by local artisans. This market is not frequented by tourists; you can see women carrying goods on their heads and on the flames. You can find just as highly refined textiles made in sheep wool and alpaca wool, you will marvel at the scenery in one of the most traditional Andean lands. The Quilotoa Volcano is a unique site in Ecuador with more than 3 km. in diameter and a height difference of 320 m. between the edge of the crater and lagoon. The indigenous community living there offers lodging, thus maintaining closer contact with local people. .
Day 3: CHUGCHILAN – ISINLIVI - CHUGCHILAN
Hike from Chugchilán to Isinliví. (13 km). and return by pickup in the afternoon to Chugchilán. Box Lunch. Dinner and night in Lodge at Chugchilan village. B L (Box lunch) D

Day 4: CHUGCHILAN - MACHACHI
Hiking around the town of Chugchilán (2-3 hours walking, beautiful rural scenes and view to the Canyon Toachi). Departure to Machachi in the afternoon. Lodging. B L D
Unevenness: 400 m - 4 hours hike - Flexible
Day 5: ILINIZAS REFUGE (4700 m) In the morning, we left Machachi towards the town of Chaupi, and will continue until the place called "The Virgin", at 3900 m. which is the area where we will start hiking up for about 3 hours until the refuge of Iliniza at 4700 m. of altitude. Day 6: CLIMBING OF NORTH ILINIZAS (5126m) – MACHACHI After a very early breakfast, and dress the necessary technical equipment (harness and helmet) and clothing, we began the ascention on a trail of volcanic sand and rocks and some snow possible, to reach the summit of North Iliniza (5126 m.). Participants need to have some mountain experience. Immediately after reaching summit, begin the descent down by the northeastern flank to get back to the parking area at the Virgin. Return to Machachi in the afternoon. Lodging. B L D Unevenness: 420 meters to the top and 1220 descent to the parking area - Hiking time: 6 hours 30 NIVEL AD + / ASEGUIM / CHAMONIX
Day 7: SAQUISILI – QUITO OR GUAGUA PICHINCHA (4784 m) – QUITO 2 possibilities depending of the arrival day:
Option 1: Departure to Saquisilí and visit of the traditional market. (Only Thursday). The lively people of Saquisilí will provide an exquisite variety of handicrafts in its markets and experiences that come to life in eight colorful squares, each of which provides different merchandise and interesting objects of indigenous communities of the region. A place that will seduce you with its colors, costumes, scenery and the kindness of its inhabitants.
Option 2: Departure to the Pichincha, active volcano near Quito. Walking on the border of the rim to the top (4-5 hours - 4784 m alt). Unevenness: 500 to 800 m - 4 hours hike Departure to Quito. Hotel at Quito.

Day 8: QUITO - REFUGE OF CAYAMBE (4700m)
Departure from Quito around 9 or 10 in the morning - Ascent to the car park of the refuge at 4700 meters. Glacier training to test the equipment and test the level of each participant. Dinner. Rest. At midnight, ascent with rope with our mountain guides. B L D Unevenness: 100 m - 2 hours hike

Day 9: CLIMBING OF CAYAMBE (5790 m) – OTAVALO
Climb of the Cayambe Summit in the night. Return to refuge after the ascent. Hiking time: approx. 8 to 9 hours total Unevenness: 1090 meters NIVEL AD+ / ASEGUIM / CHAMONIX Departure to Otavalo. Lodging. B
Day 10: OTAVALO - BAÑOS Visit of the famous and traditional market in the morning. Departure to Baños, small town located near the Tungurahua's volcano. Hotel. B
The indigenous Otavalo market is with no doubts one of the most important markets in south America. It is the ideal place to buy gifts and souvenirs for family and friends. The market was developed in the 60s and still remains, Ecuadorians come from all over the country to see the wide variety of products at their disposal. Tourists also marvel at the colorful textiles, straw hats (Panama), ponchos and silver jewelry
Day 11: BAÑOS – RIOBAMBA Visit of the town of Baños. Excursion to the waterfalls Pailón del Diablo. Cross of the Pastaza River with the local Tarabita (cable cart). In the afternoon, departure to Riobamba. Hotel. B Baños is a charming resort site, with its hot springs, located at the gateway of the Amazon and the edge of the Andes. The beauty of the place and the hospitality of its inhabitants make of Baños a popular destination. Nestled in the midst of a green valley, the city, surrounded by forests, waterfalls and at the foot of the active volcano Tungurahua 5016m, offers lush vegetation. We will visit the impressive waterfall Pailón del Diablo. Beside the Manto de la Novia waterfall, also cross the river Pastaza in Cable cart, conveyance of the local people living near the river surrounded by cliffs. If weather permits, we see almost constant activity of the Tungurahua volcano.
Day 12: ANDEAN TRAIN
Departure from Riobamba to Alausí. Travel on the traditional Andes train between Riobamba and “ Devil’s Nose”. 12 km – 2 h 30. Return to Riobamba. Hotel at Riobamba. B

Day 13: ACCLIMATION IN CARIHUAYRAZO (5020 m)
Departure to the Rio Blanco Indigenous community. This community is one of the various that inhabited higher on Ecuadorian Paramo. On the way, we can enjoy of the beautiful Andean landscapes. Acclimatization on the Carihuairazo and if it’s possible, climbing to Mocha Peak. (5020 m). Return to Riobamba. Hotel at Riobamba. B L (Box lunch) Unevenness: 916 m - 7 hours hike This volcano is located on the western mountain range and 10 km from Chimborazo. It not presents greater difficulty, the region provides magnificent and beautiful view of the nearby peaks.
Day 14: CLIMBING OF CHIMBORAZO - 6310 m
Breakfast. Drive up to the Chimborazo's refuge (4800 meters) by private vehicle. Ascent to Whymper's refuge (5000 meters). Picnic and dinner at the refuge. Climbing of the Chimborazo during the night. B L (Box lunch) D Unevenness: 1310 m – 12/14 hours hike NIVEL AD+ / ASEGUIM / CHAMONIX
Day 15: CHIMBORAZO -QUITO
After arriving back to the refuge we’ll get back to Quito in the afternoon. Hotel in Quito. End of the program.
