RESPECT LIFE NEWS

Cardinal Bernardin on Life ... “Not all values, however, are of equal weight. Some are more fundamental than others. I wish to emphasize that no earthly value is more fundamental than human life itself. Human life is the condition for enjoying freedom and all other values. Consequently, if one must choose between protecting or serving lesser human values that depend upon life for their existence and life itself, human life must take precedence. Today the recognition of human life as a fundamental value is threatened. Nowhere is this clearer than in the case of elective abortion. At present in our country this procedure takes the lives of over 4,000 unborn children every day and over 1.5 million each year.” ...Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, “Deciding for Life,” October 1, 1989

* * * * * * * * REBORN IN CHRIST

Five children received the Sacrament of Baptism here last week and are now privileged to share in the Divine Life of Christ:

Dominic Anthony Piscitelli, Son of Nicholas and Nicole Piscitelli Emeric Bittner Regala, Son of Roderick and Jennifer Regala

* * * * * * * * OFFERTORY COLLECTION

For the week of: November 5, 2017 $36,743.50

* * * * * * * * About Our Church... The ceiling of the Church is remarkable in its octagonal construction. Seven triangular bays hold the windows depicting the Seven Sorrows of Mary, while the eighth bay opens up higher over the Altar in the shape of an inverted ship. Peter was a fisherman called to be a “Fisher of Men,” and we all travel through this stormy world in a ship of faith. The Ship of Faith is also depicted in one of the etched glass doors leading from the Vestibule into the nave of the Church, inviting us to journey out into the world and share our faith with others. * * * * * * * * ON MISSION FOR THE CHURCH ALIVE! Be Prepared or Be Foolish – In today’s Gospel, five of the virgins were ready to meet their master upon his arrival, while five were not. It is a reminder, like so many others in the Gospels, to be prepared for when the Lord comes to call us to Himself. Will our hearts and lives be ready to meet the Lord and dwell with Him, or will we be caught off guard and our salvation be affected? In a more temporal way, have we been preparing ourselves for the changes that are coming as part of the On Mission for The Church Alive! initiative? Have we taken the time to educate ourselves about what will happen (Bishop Zubik’s announcements on April 25th, building relationships, new clergy assignments, new Mass schedules) and what will not happen (no immediate parish mergers, no immediate Church closings) over the next 12 months? Don’t be caught off guard by On Mission. Be prepared and be an agent of growth and support in the Church as a disciple of Jesus. Visit www.onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

So that we may not only provide for an abundant Christmas for our clients but also restock our Pantry for the cold winter months, we will be having our monthly food collection at all of the Masses on December 3rd and 4th. Many parishioners ask us what items we need for our clients. Some of our volunteers took a look in the Pantry to see what is needed. First, these items are plentiful: canned vegetables, pasta sauce, boxed potatoes and pasta. We can use more: canned fruit, condiments, paper products and cleaning supplies. Thank you in advance for your generous offerings!
