From the Pastor’s Desk July 18, 2021 Called for living on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

As little children we learned by listening and paying attention to those we loved best and we were sure that they had the best in mind for us. But as we grew older a whole bunch of noises and words and messages began to invade our lives and take possession of our ears, thoughts, and feelings. We began to live in a jungle of confusing messages and lost our alignment with the truth. Peace then took a backseat in our beings.

We who live in this age are inundated with all forms of media that constantly pester us with messages that give them power over the listeners. The media has seductions to snare us to buy their goods and make them wealthy and all they want is for us to “Like” and “Subscribe” to their channels. Gone are the days when we enjoyed the whispers of the wind, the pitter patter of the falling rain, the songs of the birds for now we are drugged by the call of the mobile phone.

We must get clear about whom we give our ears to and pay attention to. Does the message the world sends to us give us life and life in abundance or does it wear and drag us down with weariness and anxiety. The voice of the world is always the same, always empty promises of better times in the future, and we are left tethered to something that is not true.

However, we do have a choice a choice that sets us free, a choice that respects our values and our being. We are released to not just hear the word of God but to get it inside of us by listening and abiding by the truth in which there is not a shade of falsehood. Will we be brave enough to cast away the shackles of lies and believe in the words of our Father?

Begin therefore by noticing the times when you criticize yourself, the times when you feel less than who you really are. Then move away from the noise to inner silence and fight back the voice of confusion and begin to move towards the power that comes to you from the Word of God that tells you who you really and truly are. This truth takes off the chains that bind us and channels us to be who we are, to love yourself and all humans, listen to the quieting of the confusion, a dissipation of your worries and the weightlessness of a return to your original innocence.

Pray for the Church and for our parish.

Next Week! Sunday 9:15 am

Mass returns to the Chapel of the Good

Shepherd!

Sunday Mass at the church will remain at 8:30 and 10:45 am.

DEVOTIONAL CANDLES Have you lit a candle in memory of a loved one? Don’t forget that our candelabra is located at the back of the church at Our Lady’s Chapel. Large candles are $2 and small candles are $1. Simply put your donation in the slot and press down on one of the candles.

Back by Popular Demand!! Fr. Nelson will begin a new monthly bible class on Thursday evening where he explores how human beings have reached into the idea of God.

How did the idea of God evolve in human minds so that it could be entered into the Old Testament? Using this perspective, we then step into the stories of Creation, Adam and Eve, the Flood, and maybe touch the story of Abraham.

Past participation in Fr. Nelson’s Spirituality Class is not required. Please contact Merrily Besvinick for further information ([email protected]).

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION

Planning has begun for classes that begin in September. You should have received an email reminder if you have not registered. Please return the form with tuition this week. We must have our classes and catechists in place early in the summer to be ready for September.

If you are new to the parish and have a child/children to register, please contact our office 271-4254 or email [email protected].

“Summertime and the living is easy.” That’s what the favorite old song says. The living may be easy, but often the giving is not. Summer collections often drop significantly in our parish because of vacation travel, sports schedules and other activities that cause parishioners to attend Mass in other parishes. If you would like to make your giving easy and consistent this summer, please consider our electronic giving option. Currently 186 parish families are using this simple and secure way to make and track their parish giving. If you would like to begin online giving, please visit holynameofmary.churchgiving.com
