Hello! This is my last column for the year. Thank you for sharing some of your precious time with me every two weeks. If you are just joining us, welcome! Past columns are available on the stanthonydsm.org website. We have certainly discussed a lot together over this year. I can’t wait to see what the Holy Spirit moves us to discuss in 2019.

Every new year we enjoy getting a fresh start. We may focus on getting

ourselves fit physically. Many join a gym or begin exercising. Have you considered what goals you would like to set for 2019 as a family? I’d like you to set one goal with me for 2019. The Church often sets years aside with a certain focus or goal in mind. We remember previous years, the year for priests, the year of the Eucharist, and who could forget the jubilee year of mercy? Let’s call 2019 the Year of Stew-ardship. As Parishioners of St Anthony’s, what does stewardship mean? Mon-signor Chido has defined stewardship as exercising responsibility for the gifts God has given us and being accountable for their proper use. What are our gifts? Our time, talent, and treasure. Everyone in a Catholic family, young or old, has a measure of these gifts. As we set a good example as parents as stewards of what God has entrusted us, our children learn, follow, and develop from our exam-ple. How can you and I, and our families, learn to take our stewardship role more seriously in 2019, and work at becoming better stewards of the blessings God showers us with? That’s what the focus of our conversations together through these columns for 2019 will be.

Have a happy new year 2019! Your fellow worker in Christ, Chris

“Dear Jesus, in everything i say and everything I do, in everything today, may it glorify you!”

Griglione 50th Anniversary The family of John and Carolyn (Moore) Griglione happily announce their 50th wedding anniversary. The high school sweethearts met while John attended Dowling and Carolyn attended Lincoln. They were married on December 28th, 1968, in St. Anthony’s. After attending Iowa State University, the pair boldly set out for Alexandria, Virginia, as John be-gan his forty-two-year career with the Fed-eral Bureau of Investigation and Carolyn began her forty-year career in education. Now contentedly retired, the couple are actively involved in their Alexandria com-munity and Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. Their daughter, Michelle, son-in-law, Rob, and grand-daughter, Penelope, wish them golden congratulations upon this momentous milestone.

5. December 30, 2018

From Msgr. Frank Chiodo

Friends, At the gateway to a new year, I pause to praise God for the blessings of the last year. I thank the Lord for the blessings of our Parish and the many ways in which you have been a blessing to me. As God has called us together at this juncture in history, so may He guide us to do something beau-tiful for Him. How could we ever adequately express our appreciation for all those who contributed to making this a beautiful Christmas time, filled with color, peace and joy filled faith? To our choirs, musi-cians, ministers at the altar and ushers, those who decorated the church for the season, and for those who donated the poin-settias—Larry Loffredo and family our heartfelt thanks. Thanks to all who sent gifts, food, and pastries to the rectories for Christmas. God bless you for your traditional hospitality. It means a lot to us priests to be treated so kindly by you.

God bless you and your family for a healthy, happy and holy new year.
