RESPECT LIFE

Sanctuary of Life This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. Though he was conceived of a virgin, Jesus nevertheless lived as a son in a human family -- a family which points the way for the rest of us. The family is the sanctuary of life. There can

be no life without family, and there can be no family without life. The family, above all, is where life is to be welcomed, no matter how fragile or inconvenient it may be. One of the many reasons why the Pope and bishops identify abortion and euthanasia as pre-eminent issues is because these crimes are committed by one family member upon another. May the Holy Family lead us to a Culture of Life! The next Respect Life Holy Hour: Friday, January 19, 2018 at 7:00pm.

“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace.”

It has been 100 days since I arrived at Our Lady of the Assumption Church to become the new administrator of an amazing and holy parish. It has not been easy, but the mercy and love of our Almighty Father has led me through a wonderful experience, filled with blessings and amazing gifts.

It has been 10 years since arrived from Ecuador to join the seminary in the Archdiocese of New York. Time in which I have fallen in love with an active and alive church that has never stopped to proclaim the gospel of Jesus in this part of the country.

I remember that the first parish I was assigned as a seminarian was this one. Since the first moment I arrived I felt at home. Priests and parishioners made the transition so easy that I stopped being homesick. I had my first Lent and Easter season here, I celebrated my first Mass as a deacon and priest at this altar. And now, I have the honor and privilege to come back as its administrator.

All of you my dear friends have been an important pillar in my life as a priest and follower of Jesus Christ. Each one of you has become my 2017 Christmas gift. You are such a blessing in my life. For all this I give praise to God. Each one of you is special and unique; a wonderful sign of God’s presence in this parish. As we begin a new year, I raise my heart to the Blessed Trinity, to ask them that under the protection and guidance of Our Blessed Mother, we must become holy people through whom God will be praised and loved. Let us begin a new journey together, trusting in each other, loving one another, always open to serve and welcome our neighbors, praying for unity and forgiveness, forgetting our differences and pre-conceived ideas.

Let us welcome this new year with a humble and renovated heart, with a sincere and joyful heart that as we get closer to Jesus, we can celebrate the gift of life to the end.

To each one of you I wish you a blessed 2018. Always in my prayers and thoughts. And don’t forget to say a special prayer for me.

-Father Esteban
