CIRENCESTER LIVESTOCK MARKET REPORT TUESDAY 2 ND NOVEMBER 2021 39 REARING & WEANED CALVES 10.30 am – Auctioneer: Richard Barrow Rearing Bulls to £340, Avg £166, Heifers to £200, Avg £144 A good trade today with a shorter entry forward. Simmental bulls from M/s R & T Andrews sold to £340 with British Blue bulls generally £150 - £220 topping at £295 from M/s J D Wright & Son. Aberdeen Angus bulls of varying qualities sold between £120 - £220 topping at £270 from Mr E Evans. Fleckvieh bulls to £235 from Cimarron Partnership. Best heifers topped at £200 for a Simmental from the same home with other medium types £100 - £120. A handful of part weaned calves selling to a strong trade reaching £450 for British Blue steers from Mr E Evans with his Sussex bulls to £250 & Friesian’s to £220. A run of British Blue x heifers reached £260 from Mr I Corner. TUESDAY 7 TH DECEMBER 2021 CHRISTMAS SHOW & SALE OF REARING CALVES 15 BEEF COWS & BULLS 11.30 am – Auctioneer: Jon Pullin A dispersal of highly strung cows (running with Hereford bull) from M/s D & D Meredith, Wickwar saw Simmental’s to £960, £785 & £760 with Hereford x heifers to £868. Their pedigree Hereford bull sold to £1140. 282 STORE CATTLE 11.30 am – Auctioneer: Jon Pullin Avg: Steers £859 (204p/kg), Heifers £756 (186p/kg) A decent but shorter entry sold to another very good trade and certainly no less. Not too many stronger short-term steers on offer but sold to a good, probably slightly dearer trade selling over £1250 to top at £1388 (210p/kg) for Limousin’s from M/s A & C Terrett, Shepperdine & £1335 (205p/kg) from Mr G Morse, Whitminster. The stronger medium-term steers were another good trade trading between £1050 - £1200 (190 – 220p/kg) to top at £1330 (220p/kg) for Limousin’s from M/s H & A Farming, Minsterworth. The general medium-term steers were another strong trade between £900 - £1050 (190 – 220p/kg) with the younger steers £750 - £900 (210 – 223p/kg). The Friesian steers saw the stronger sorts £750 - £850 (135 – 140p/kg) topping at £875 (173p/kg) from M/s K & A Godwin, North Wraxall. The stronger short-term heifers met a good trade but also short in number trading between £1050 - £1080 (185 – 200p/kg) topping at £1100 twice (185p/kg) for a Limousin from Mr G Morse, Whitminster & (206p/kg) for an Aberdeen Angus from M/s G & R Savage, Malswick. The stronger medium- term heifers were £950 - £1020 (180 – 190p/kg) with the general medium-term & younger heifers a similar trade between £750 - £850 (175 – 190p/kg). The weaned calves & young stores were another good trade with Hereford steers (10mnths) to £915 (199p/kg) from Mr T Winning, Frampton on Severn & (7 – 9mnths) to £770 (193p/kg) from M/s Bydemill Farm, Hannington. A run of organic Aberdeen Angus cattle (11 – 13mnths) from M/s Turnstone Farming, Stow on the Wold saw steers to £860 (229p/kg), £795 (218p/kg) & £780 (208p/kg) with their heifers to £665 (185p/kg). A few more forward but of varying qualities sold to an exceptional trade. Monday started well but now the cheapest of the week as prices have risen all week. The best meat handyweight lambs again the easiest to sell well ahead of vendors expectations between 270 – 280p/kg topping at 289p/kg £130 for 45kg from Mr J Bury. The general handyweight meat lambs traded between 250 – 260p/kg (Approx. £65 - £70 over their weights). The lightweight lambs also in demand trading to a top of 287p/kg £86 for 30kg from Mr M Escott. The medium weight lambs (46 – 52kg) saw the better sorts £125 - £130 topping at £132.50 for 49kg from Mr M Scott with the heavier lambs topping at £136.50 for 52½kg from Mr M Hobbs.

734 STORE SHEEP Auctioneer: Chris Voyce

734 STORE LAMBS: Another good number forward and you had to see the trade to believe it. The lift in the fat trade increased confidence and demand. Not much strength on offer with the few stronger, lean short-term lambs mostly off to the abattoir trading between £99 - £97. The medium-term well-bred lambs again looked extremely well sold and a lift of some £10 a head trading between £82 - £91. The general medium-term lambs were £78 - £82 and the long-term smaller sorts also looked well sold between £72 - £78. The very small & backward sorts seem the dearest between £60 - £70.

314 CULL EWES Auctioneer: Chris Voyce

Overall Average – Ewes - £77.63 Another good entry saw a lift in trade as well and again well ahead of most other centres. No real show winners on offer with the stronger Continental ewes trading between £120 - £130 topping at £140, Suffolk’s £108 - £118. The half meat & meat medium Suffolk & Continental ewes looked a good trade between £95 - £115. Again, very few strong meat Mules on offer trading between £95 - £100 topping at £109. The stronger half meat Mules £80 - £90. Leaner grazing & plain ewes traded generally £70 - £80. Meat small ewes £65 - £75 and the plain & very plain ewes & lesser breeds £35 - £50. Medium goats sold to £81. Strong rams topped at £150 with most £120 - £138.

28 CATTLE 11.30 am – Auctioneer: Jon Pullin

21 BEEF CATTLE: A decent show of cattle sold to an extremely good trade. A smart British Blue steer topped the day at 238p/kg £1734 from Mr B Hillman. A grand run of Limousin cattle from Mr H J Noad also topped at 238p/kg £1591 & 234p/kg £1587 for the steers with his heifers to 231p/kg £1291 & 230p/kg £1526. The meat commercial cattle traded between 200 – 220p/kg with a few plainer sorts 190 – 200p/kg.

8 BARREN COWS & OVERAGE CATTLE: A short entry saw another good trade for what was on offer. A British Blue cow topped the day at 155p/kg £1127 from M/s Logan & Son with Friesian’s to 126p/kg £797 from Mr D Meredith. Overage steers sold between 186 – 188p/kg £1360 - £1378 from M/s L B Cook & Family.
