obtaining city and state approvals for construction plans. (Please refer to Community: The Future on page 30 for more about the project.)

Recently, CVHP President and CEO Rob Curry announced Citrus Valley Health Partners will become Emanate Health. The new name reflects the evolution of CVHP, from stand-alone hospitals and a hospice to a health system with multiple ambulatory sites rang-ing from an outpatient surgery center to an outpatient imaging center to affiliations with physician practices. The name Emanate Health was selected following an 18-month process which involved an external and in-ternal examination of the company’s mission, vision and values. Interviews were held with employees, patients and community leaders. (The word emanate means “to come from a source.” It seems fitting since the hospitals have been a source of health for its community for de-cades.) More details will be forthcoming as the system officially transitions to the new name in 2019.

As pleased as I am to share news of our achieve-ments and future plans, it is really you—our wonderful community—that I celebrate. The work of the hospitals and hospice is made possible by our talented physicians and nurses, hardworking staff and knowledgeable board members, but it is your generous and continuing support through philanthropy and volunteerism that will make our soon-to-be Emanate Health shine. I hope you can sense how grateful we are.

Sincerely,

Michelle StoddardChief Executive Officer, Citrus Valley Health Foundation

This annual report is a reflection of you—our community. Year after year, since the founding of Inter-Community Hospital in 1922 by Melisse and Mary Wittler, the continuing groundswell of support from our community has propelled Citrus Valley Health Partners to reach the level of comprehensive care we ex-perience today through our three hospitals and hospice.

As you look inside, you’ll see our Honor Roll, our stories of generosity and photos from special events, which all give us the opportunity to say thank you as we showcase your commitment in 2017. Philanthropy and gifts both large and small from individuals, corporations, community organizations and foundations drive our ability to advance the CVHP mission of care. This year we experienced a significant boost in gifts from appre-ciated property, a transfer of assets that has a lasting impact on our hospitals, while providing important benefits for the donor.

We have a strong, vibrant community of nearly one million people in the East San Gabriel Valley, and CVHP has set the bar high when it comes to patient safety and quality of care. As good as our services are to-day, we know we must continue striving to improve. In order to meet community need and prepare for growth, we urgently need a larger emergency department at Queen of the Valley Hospital.

I’m proud to announce we are poised to embark on a $25 million capital campaign in support of this critically important new building initiative. The case for support will be communicated in detail, and I’m confident, with our philanthropic partners by our side, we will meet this ambitious goal. I promised you in my last letter I would share more details about this new expansion and construction. Currently, CVHP is in the process of

A new CVHP Family Medicine Residency program began in 2017. The program’s mission is to train highly competent physicians to provide compassionate, innovative, comprehensive and cost- effective healthcare, with an emphasis on patient and family-oriented, community-focused care.

The emergency department at Queen of the Valley Hospital is one of the busiest in LA County and needs to increase patient beds from 24 to 60 for emergency care.

Citrus Valley Health Foundation is poised to embark on a $25 million capital campaign in support of a beautiful new Queen of the Valley Hospital emergency department.

COMMUNITY: INVESTMENTTrustee Rich Jett Gives Time and Resources

Access to quality healthcare for the community is personal for Rich Jett; he believes he owes much

to Citrus Valley Health Partners hospitals. Diagnosed with and paralyzed from transverse myelitis 25

years ago, Rich credits the physicians and nurses at Inter-Community Hospital with his ability to walk

today. They cared for him as an inpatient for three weeks until the progression of the disease halted,

and he became proficient in using a wheelchair. In addition, his parents received life-saving care

at ICH, and his son was born there. Two of Rich’s grandchildren were born at Foothill Presbyterian

Hospital, and Rich had two surgeries there. He is a grateful man.

In response, Rich Jett chooses to serve and to give. Since 1983, first as a member of the Inter-Com-

munity Hospital Foundation Board, then transitioning to the Citrus Valley Health Foundation Board,

Rich has logged a 35-year commitment advancing the CVHP mission. Recently, Rich and his wife

Gayle made a significant gift in support of a planned Queen of the Valley Hospital expansion. The

emergency department at QVH is one of the busiest in LA County, resulting in the need for a building

campaign aimed at increasing the number of patient bed spaces from 24 to 60 for emergency care.

Rich hopes their gift will encourage others to contribute: “Since Gayle and I were married 18 years

ago, we have both tried to help others. We believe in giving back, and we trust our gift will help those

not as fortunate as we are to get great medical care locally. QVH is the answer for thousands of

people whose lives might be saved because of this expansion.”

Gratitude is Rich’s response to his upbringing and business success. Born in Los Angeles and

raised primarily in the East San Gabriel Valley since the age of eight, he refers to his parents as “the

best and married for 57 years,” always setting an example, which helped him get back on track when

he made mistakes while growing up. After graduating from Covina High School in 1957, Rich joined

the Army National Guard, retiring after 15 years as a captain. He enjoyed a successful career in

banking from 1960 to 2002, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Alta Pacific Bank and

Covina Irrigating, in addition to several others; Rich is an active member of the Covina Rotary Club.

Community support is the hallmark of any great hospital. Citrus Valley Health Partners is fortunate to

count Rich and Gayle Jett as friends.

The generosity of Rich and Gayle Jett demon-strates the remarkable enthusiasm they and others have in support of our hospitals. The Jetts and all of the Foundation Trustees have my sincere thanks for their com-mitment to advance our mission and future needs through their diligent campaign planning and pledges.”

COMMUNITY: COMMITMENTS Private Foundation Grants Offer Help and Hope

S. MARK TAPER FOUNDATION

No parent wants to see their newborn whisked away to a neonatal intensive care unit. But when the

need arises, Queen of the Valley Hospital’s NICU stands ready to give these tiny patients the best

opportunity for a healthy homecoming. This critical level of care requires a cadre of specially trained

healthcare professionals, plus the absolute best in technology. Thanks to a generous award from the

S. Mark Taper Foundation, the 40-bed NICU has advanced its ability to treat oxygen deprivation in

newborns with the acquisition of two CritiCool® systems designed to induce hypothermia.

Prolonged oxygen deprivation can lead to brain damage, resulting in developmental delays or more

serious physical and neurological impairments. Oxygen deprivation can occur because of difficulties

while in utero, during the birth process or after birth. Cooling the body to 92.3 degrees for up to 72

hours can help prevent permanent damage and reduce inflammation so that healing can occur. The

CritiCool® technology provides a non-invasive method for precise and timely temperature control.

Anjanette Gaane, RN, Queen of the Valley Hospital NICU director, has witnessed the treatment benefits:

certain babies gain a significant chance to go home with a healthy outcome, avoiding permanent brain

damage and spending fewer days in the NICU. This crucial treatment can benefit not only babies born

at Queen of the Valley Hospital, but those transferred from at least six local area hospitals.

With so many new lives at stake, Anjanette appreciates the support from the S. Mark Taper Foundation:

“We are really grateful they took a chance on us. Now we can offer this important technology to help

our most vulnerable population.”

THE AHMANSON FOUNDATION

Technology—twenty-first century style—is alive and well in the Geleris Family Foundation Education

Center, housed adjacent to the campus of Foothill Presbyterian Hospital. A generous award from The

Ahmanson Foundation has enhanced the education center with its support of new electronics and

up-to-date technology for training physicians, nurses and staff, as well as members of the community.

Classes have begun in the five meeting rooms, the largest of which can accommodate 75 people. The

space is both comfortable and technologically savvy. The Ahmanson Foundation award supported

necessary infrastructure, such as networking cables, but also important equipment, including servers,

laptop computers and an abundance of audio-visual technology. The capacity to integrate technology

into the classroom can lead to more effective teaching and learning, ensuring timely education for the

community and healthcare professionals alike.

We are really grateful the S. Mark Taper Founda-tion took a chance on our Queen of the Valley NICU. Thanks to them, we can offer this important technology to help our most vulnerable popula-tion. Babies treated with the CritiCool® system now have a significant chance for a healthy homecoming.”

COMMUNITY: TRANSFORMING HEALTHCAREThe timing was just right for Citrus Valley Health Partners. CVHP’s mission “to help people keep well in

body, mind and spirit by providing quality healthcare in a safe, compassionate environment” aligned

with the state of California’s Song-Brown primary care residency grant offerings in 2017, resulting in

$925,000 of awards benefiting a new CVHP Family Medicine Residency program for the East San

Gabriel Valley. The Song-Brown program aims to increase the number of medical residents receiving

quality primary care experience and train them to provide care in diverse, medically underserved

communities in California. This three-year residency training program began at CVHP in 2017 with a

first class of 10 residents; a second class of 10 residents started in July 2018. The program will reach

a full complement of 30 residents in July 2019, when a third class of 10 begins training. June 2020 will

mark the graduation of the first class of board-certified family physicians.

The mission of the CVHP Family Medicine Residency is to train highly competent physicians to provide

compassionate, innovative, comprehensive and cost-effective healthcare, with an emphasis on patient

and family-oriented, community-focused care. Residents have rotations at all three CVHP hospitals and

see patients at two East Valley Community Health Center locations. These federally qualified health cen-

ters serve as model outpatient teaching sites and medical homes to thousands of individuals and families.

Resident training and outreach within our medically underserved population may include: visits to

homeless shelters and parks, participation at community events and health fairs, a month-long addic-

tion medicine rotation, high school and undergraduate student mentoring, and classroom instruction at

local high schools in diabetes self-management.

Tracey Norton, DO, Family Medicine Residency program director, hopes the training program creates

a diverse group of primary care physicians for the future—a “pipeline of physicians”—who will stay

in the East San Gabriel Valley community. Dr. Norton explains, “Through immersion and active par-

ticipation in services provided by the community health centers and CVHP hospitals, our goal is that

family medicine residents complete the training with the necessary tools, knowledge and experience to

demonstrate that practicing medicine in underserved areas is fulfilling and can make a real difference

in the lives of individuals, families and communities.”

Patrice Tully, MD, a current medical resident in the program drawn to family medicine while serving

as active duty medical officer in the US Navy after medical school, describes the program’s unique

training opportunities: “The exposure spanning the diversity of pathology, culture, language and patient

communities is one that few other individual hospital-based programs provide. During my time in the

Navy, I cared for patients of all ages and stages in life, and providing complete care appealed to me. I

believe family medicine is an ideal blend of the spectrum of medical care.”

Our goal is that family medicine residents complete the training with the necessary tools, knowledge and expe-rience to demonstrate that practicing medicine in underserved areas is fulfilling and can make a real difference in the lives of individuals, fami-lies and communities.”

COMMUNITY: PHILANTHROPISTS The Estates of Howard Hatfield and Kathleen Harland

One of life’s most generous acts can be accomplished through a bequest, the simple act of naming a

beneficiary of a will or trust. Creating a legacy with a bequest benefiting Citrus Valley Health Partners

was an important decision for both Howard Hatfield and Kathleen Harland.

HOWARD HATFIELD: A GOOD AND GENEROUS MAN

Howard Hatfield was a resourceful fellow: He was only 14 years old (during World War II) when he

gathered up spare parts and built his own automobile, fueling it with dry cleaning fluid instead of gas-

oline, due to rationing. This launched Howard’s hobby of tinkering and living life through machinery,

including his lifelong career as an aerospace engineer.

Born in Pasadena in 1928, Howard was educated at UC Berkeley, Occidental College and USC.

Christopher Parry, a good friend and, after Howard’s death, trustee of the Hatfield estate, lauds Howard

as an outstanding engineer, but has even more to say about his character: “Howard was a good and

generous man. It’s important to recognize what he did for others through the gift of his life savings.”

Howard Hatfield’s bequest to CVHP reflects his deep gratitude for the care he and others received.

Residents of Glendora, Howard and his wife Virginia utilized Foothill Presbyterian Hospital for their health-

care. Howard expressed a particular desire to leave a legacy to Citrus Valley Hospice in appreciation of

their care for a friend. Thanks to the Hatfield’s advanced planning and kindness, both Foothill Presbyterian

Hospital and Citrus Valley Hospice will have even more of what they need to continue caring for others.

KATHLEEN HARLAND: A WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE

Kathleen Harland, known as “K,” was born in 1919 in New Dorp, Staten Island, New York. Margaret

Reiser and Pamela Sandon, K’s cousins, describe her as the smallest Harland in stature, but large in

her legacy of a generous spirit and gifts to worthy causes. In 2017, Citrus Valley Hospice was one of

the fortunate beneficiaries of her philanthropy through the K. Harland Trust.

Educated in New York City public schools, K began her career with Caltex, a joint venture between

Standard Oil Co. of California and The Texas Co. (later Chevron and Texaco). K flourished in her

job as a procurement executive and remained there through her 40-year career. Personally, K trav-

eled extensively and was passionate about museums, the symphony and opera. Following trips to

Tanzania and Kenya, she developed a love and concern for animals.

Happiest surrounded by family, K enjoyed Harland family reunions in Scotland, Canada and Georgia.

After living in New York City and then Texas, K spent her final 32 years in San Dimas. Margaret Reiser

serves as the trustee of the K. Harland estate and sees the result of her cousin’s lifelong habits of

thrift and loyalty. Through her bequest, K was able to share significant assets, with her generosity

reflecting the people and passions she held so dear.

Howard Hatfield’s bequest to Citrus Valley Health Partners reflects his deep gratitude for the care he and others received. Howard expressed a particular desire to leave a legacy to Citrus Valley Hospice in appreciation of their care for a friend.”

CHRISTOPHER PARRY,

TRUSTEE OF

THE HOWARD

HATFIELD ESTATE

Citrus Valley Hospice is more than a place; it is a philosophy of care. These compassionate hospice professionals provide care with the belief that each of their patients has the right to die pain-free and with dignity, and that their families will receive the necessary support to allow them to do so. GIFT IN KIND PARTNERS

Thank You for Your Support

Gift in Kind Partners provided invaluable support to the success of our 2017 events.

ENDOWMENT

A Philanthropic Tradition

Endowment represents an institution’s active planning for the future. It is a source of funds that acts as a financial anchor for a non-profit organization.

01HOW TO BEGIN:A donor creates an

endowment by asking that

the funds remain intact

with only the earnings

being spent to support a

specific project. Trustees

of the non-profit deter-

mine a spending policy

annually that provides for

a percentage of the earn-

ings to be spent, with the

corpus held in perpetuity.

02HOW IT WORKS:Earnings on endowments

may support programs,

building expansions or

may be unrestricted.

These important commit-

ments provide a measure

of financial stability for

the future. The principal

can never be invaded

except under the most

unusual set of circum-

stances, and only with

board of trustee approval.

03GET STARTED: To create a permanent,

named endowment in

support of Citrus Valley

Health Partners, the

donor needs to make a

minimum commitment of

$50,000. Gifts of any size

may be added to an es-

tablished endowment fund

at any time in the future.

WAYS TO GIVE Through smart charitable planning, you can shape the future of Citrus Valley Health Partners beyond what you

thought possible. A planned gift not only impacts your financial goals and tax benefits, it directs your passion to

make a lasting impact on the people and places most important to you.

THE CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY To create a charitable gift annuity (CGA), the donor makes a

permanent gift of cash, securities or real estate to Citrus Valley

Health Foundation. In return, Citrus Valley Health Foundation

agrees to make stable, periodic payments (an annuity) to one or

two people (annuitants) for their lifetimes. When the annuitants

have passed away and the annuity ends, Citrus Valley Health

Foundation uses the remaining funds to support its mission.

What are the benefits?

• The donor can turn cash, securities or real estate into a

guaranteed stream of payments for one or two people

for the rest of their lives.

• The annuity payments are stable regardless of changes

in the economy.

• The donor receives a charitable income-tax deduction

for the gift portion of the CGA.

• Annuity payments are partially income-tax free, often for

many years.

• If the donor uses appreciated property to fund the

CGA, the donor can avoid the capital gains tax on the

exchange that funds the CGA.

• When one annuitant passes away, the other annuitant

will continue to receive the total annuity amount.

• CGA rates depend on the annuitant’s age.

• CGA programs are regulated by law and are guaranteed.

• CGAs are flexible and can be planned to meet the

donor’s needs. Payments can begin immediately or be

deferred until a future date, for a higher rate.

GIFTS OF APPRECIATED REAL ESTATEAppreciated real estate that is debt-free can be used to cre-

ate a stream of payments and reduce taxes. Before listing

appreciated real estate property for sale, an owner needs to

transfer the property to a Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT)

or CGA that will benefit Citrus Valley Health Foundation in

the future. This presale transfer qualifies the donor to avoid

the long-term capital gain on the sale of the property.

What are the benefits?

• The owner can choose one or more income beneficiary(s)

that would receive variable payments from the CRT for

their lifetimes or for a term of up to 20 years.

• There is no capital gains tax to be paid when the donor

transfers appreciated real estate to the CRT before the

property is listed for sale.

• The donor receives a charitable income-tax deduction for

the future value of the gift to Citrus Valley Health Foundation.

• While in the CRT, the property grows on a tax-free basis. If

the trustee sells CRT property and reinvests the proceeds,

there are no taxes on the sale.

• When one income beneficiary passes away, any surviving

income beneficiary retains the same rights to receive the

income from the CRT.

• The CRT gives the owner more control of the investments

in this Trust.

GIFTS OF RESERVED LIFE ESTATEThe donor makes a permanent transfer of a home, condo-

minium, vacation home or farm/ranch to Citrus Valley Health

Foundation. The donor and Citrus Valley Health Foundation

agree that the donor and the donor’s spouse can continue

to use the property for their lifetimes. The donor continues to

pay for maintenance, insurance and taxes on the property.

What are the benefits?

• The donor receives a charitable income-tax deduction

for the future value of the gift to Citrus Valley Health

Foundation.

• This deduction will offset the donor’s future payments for

maintenance, insurance and taxes on the property.

• The transferred real estate is not part of the donor’s

estate, avoiding probate and possibly reducing the

estate tax.

GIFTS OF APPRECIATED STOCK AND OTHER SECURITIESGiving long-term appreciated stock or other securities to Citrus

Valley Health Foundation can be more beneficial for the donor

than giving the equivalent amount of cash.

What are the benefits?

• When long-term appreciated stock is donated to Citrus

Valley Health Foundation, the donor avoids paying a

capital gains tax on that stock.

• This tax savings makes the “cost” to the donor of the gift

lower than if the donor made an equivalent contribution

of cash.

• The donor receives an immediate income-tax deduction

for the gift.

Volunteer-driven fundraisers provide the opportunity for the community to participate and give back to their local hospital. Proceeds from the annual Shelly Houghton Memorial Walk-a-thon benefit patients by supporting scholarships, which enable patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (and without the ability to pay) to participate in a pulmonary rehab program.

Dedicated volunteers, including therapy dogs like Sancho, give of their time to bring cheer to patients at Citrus Valley Health Partners hospitals and hospice.

Community generosity is critical to advanc-ing the Citrus Valley Health Partners mission. Benefactors can utilize both outright gifts of cash and multi-year pledges to help shape the future.

I AM CVHP: THE CAPACITY TO GIVE Barron Nixon Goes Above and Beyond

Kindness is an action word for Inter-Community Hospital’s Barron Nixon. A patient transporter,

Barron interfaces with patients every day, many times serving those who are experiencing uncer-

tainty and discomfort. Customer service is what Barron enjoys the most, and he gives in double

measure. His primary responsibility is transporting patients safely from one place to another,

but Barron also gives to others through his bi-weekly contributions to the I AM CVHP employee

giving program.

Barron has participated in the giving program through payroll deduction since 2001—his first year

working for Citrus Valley Health Partners. Thanks to a principled family background, a compassion-

ate heart and love for people, Barron has contributed for 17 years out of respect for his co-workers

and the patients he sees day after day. “Participating in the I AM CVHP program,” he explains, “is my

way of giving back to the hospital and to the community I live in.”

More than ever, philanthropy is vital to sustaining CVHP’s ability to provide mission-driven healthcare.

Fortunately, generous contributions from community friends and benefactors provide important sup-

port for the work of CVHP hospitals and hospice. President and CEO Robert H. Curry acknowledges

the powerful message to the community that employee giving suggests: “Choosing to donate says

that you believe so strongly in CVHP that you are willing to support it above and beyond your every-

day work.”

Participation in the giving program includes employees from all three hospitals, hospice, the busi-

ness office and the 140 Building, demonstrating CVHP’s capacity to give above and beyond. Just

like Barron M. Nixon does.

The I AM CVHP employee giving program is a voluntary fundraising effort that gives employees

the opportunity to make a financial contribution to Citrus Valley Health Partners hospitals, hospice

and home health, or to the greatest need throughout CVHP. Please call the Citrus Valley Health

Foundation at (626) 814-2421 if you have questions or would like to enroll.

There’s a feeling that emerges when I’m con-fronted with another’s suffering; I feel motivat-ed to help relieve that suffering. In a small way, giving to the I AM CVHP program through payroll deduction allows me to be a blessing to others.”

BARRON M. NIXON,

HOSPITAL

I AM CVHP: The Employee Giving Program of Citrus Valley Health Partners.CVHP employees make a com-mitment each day to provide safe, compassionate care. Making a financial contribu-tion through employee giving indicates a willingness to support the mission at a level exceeding the daily work. C

28th Annual Autumn Nocturne

Oh, what a night! The Langham Huntington in Pasadena provided a

beautiful backdrop on November 18, 2017, for the nearly 400 guests at-

tending Citrus Valley Health Foundation’s 28th Annual Autumn Nocturne.

Thanks to the effort of Co-Chairs Pauline Bereuter and K. Vasantha Red-

dy and their committee, the Gala featured cocktails and dinner, silent and

live auctions, and entertainment by Mary Scanlon and the Flip Me Dip Me

Dancers. The program recognized the 2017 Citrus Valley Health Partners’

Physicians of the Year honorees: Garland S. Dodoo, MD; Samuel Naim

Kassar, MD; and Jonathan Tye, MD. The evening’s proceeds benefit the

greatest need at Citrus Valley Health Partners. Gifts pledged during “the

ask”—the evening’s special appeal—are designated to benefit Citrus

Valley Hospice.

COMMUNITY: THE FUTURESergio Hernandez, MD, is hoping for more. More patient beds. More triage areas. More treatment

rooms. And more space for the medical and nursing staff. Dr. Hernandez, CVHP medical director

of emergency services, is committed to meeting the East San Gabriel Valley’s growing need for

emergency care, especially at the busy Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina. He is not alone.

According to Robert Curry, CVHP president and CEO, the current emergency department at QVH is

one of the busiest in LA County and is drastically undersized at 24 beds. To prepare the department

for the current community need and for continued growth of a predicted 30% increase in emergency

visits over the next decade, the Queen of the Valley emergency department needs to be much larger,

up to a total of 60 patient bed spaces.

The time has arrived when hope turns into action. The leadership of Citrus Valley Health Partners has

a steady eye on the future and has already reinvested tens of millions of dollars into infrastructure,

advanced technology and medical talent. Specifically, now it is “the Queen’s” turn for significant

investment and advancements, bringing best-in-class emergency care to the wonderful community

of families and neighbors who call West Covina and the East San Gabriel Valley their home.

Citrus Valley Health Foundation is poised to embark on a $25 million capital campaign in support of

this important building initiative—a beautiful new Queen of the Valley Hospital emergency depart-

ment. Further details explaining the case for support will be communicated on a regular basis, but

obtaining city and state approvals for construction plans has already begun.

We know this vision is attainable, if we work together. Together we can build something even more

substantial than a structure. Working with our community partners and friends, we can ensure the

same safe and compassionate care we would wish for our own families extends to everyone who

comes to us in need.

The future is now. Are you with us?

This is my community. They deserve the best. Right now, we strive to provide excellent care, but our emergency services are limited by size and the age of the current Queen of the Valley facility.”

SERGIO HERNANDEZ, MD

CVHP MEDICAL

DIRECTOR OF

EMERGENCY SERVICES

Super-focused Kevin Streeter, RN, chief nursing officer and clinical executive, is ready with energy and commitment to ensure even greater access to emergency services at Queen of the Valley Hospital. With strong community support, Citrus Valley Health Partners—soon to be known as Emanate Health—is poised to invest in a beautiful new emergency department.

I consider myself fortunate to serve as the Board Chair for Citrus Valley Health Foundation. It is a privilege! A Foundation is only as good as its people, and I am blessed to serve alongside my fellow trustees and friends. It is humbling to be in the company of such accomplished volunteers, in addition to being supported by a remarkable fundraising staff and a generous community. So, it is with gratitude that I write this note of thanks.

Special events at Citrus Valley Health Foundation exhibit a winning combination of fun and success. Kudos to the volunteer leadership, including event chairs and committee members, as well as loyal sponsors and guests! Their enthusiasm and skill produced another year of popular and profitable fundraisers. We opened our 2017 season with the 43rd Annual Golf Invitational in June. This day of sport and philanthropy is always an enjoyable and purposeful outing for our golfing enthusiasts.

What a grand night it was for our Gala in November—the 28th Annual Autumn Nocturne! It is heartwarming to experience the community’s support of our hospitals’ greatest needs. In April of this past spring, the Friends of Citrus Valley Hospice present-ed the Craft Beer, Wine and Food Fest at the Fairplex Marketplace. Guests enjoyed an evening of endless tastes, along with music, dancing and a silent auction, with proceeds benefiting the special care of Citrus Valley Hospice.

My sincere thanks to all of our committed CVHF Board members. The Board has gained knowledge and a renewed vigor for our role as ambassadors of the hospitals. As we anticipate new beginnings this year—a health system name change which better reflects our mission and values, and a $25 million capital campaign in support of emergency services—I am confident we will succeed.

Finally, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, the administration, staff and volunteers, my greatest thanks go to you, our community of friends. Your continued gifts and participation truly make a difference.

Sincerely,Mary Jane BettfreundChair, Citrus Valley Health Foundation Board of Trustees

The Citrus Valley Health Foundation Annual Report is a wonderful opportunity to share what we have accomplished thanks to you and your families’ support and generosi-ty. At Citrus Valley Health Partners, our physicians, nurses and staff want the best for our community and we appreciate that you come to us for care when you need it most.

Reflecting upon our accomplishments and growth during 2017 and the beginning of 2018, I’m proud of the recognition received from numerous organizations for our clinical excellence. We continued to expand our services and footprint across the region, with the acquisition of physician practices, an imaging center, office buildings and more. But, what I’m especially proud of is what we have accomplished due to the remarkable support of our community benefactors and friends.

The stories of generosity in this report are inspirational! I’m heartened by the depth and breadth of giving from individuals, foundations, corporations and businesses, and community organizations. As CVHP prepares for more growth, these contributions demonstrate the community stands by our side. In fact, thanks to a commitment from the Citrus Valley Health Foundation to launch a $25 million capital campaign, we are obtaining approvals for a much-needed 30,000-square-foot emergency department expansion at Queen of the Valley Hospital.

Looking forward, I’m excited to announce that Citrus Valley Health Partners is becoming Emanate Health! After a thoughtful process, the new name was selected to reflect our expanding health system and to better demonstrate the full continuum of care offered here. The names of our hospitals will not be changing. Citrus Valley Health Partners is going away, but Inter-Community Hospital, Queen of the Valley Hospital and Foothill Presbyterian Hospital names are staying.

We have become a catalyst for change and a beacon of healthier lives. Our new name is a symbol of this positive energy. It reinforces our dedication to the community and our passion for keeping you well.

On behalf of our Board of Directors, thank you for your continued generosity and for being a friend to Citrus Valley Health Partners…soon to be Emanate Health.

Sincerely,Robert H. CurryPresident and CEO, Citrus Valley Health Partners
