Principal’s News

Welcome to Week 8. We now have 3 weeks of school remaining for students before we break for the Christmas Holidays. The last day for students will be Friday 15th December and the last day for teaching staff is Tuesday 19th December. With teachers taking part in two days of Professional Development before the holidays. This week we will be running our School Leadership speeches and elections. The year 5 students who were nominated last week will deliver a campaign speech; girls Monday, boys Tuesday, at our morning assembly. On Wednesday our voting will take place. Our voting is conducted in the same way that our parliamentary electoral voting is conducted using an anonymous, preferential system. Students running for leadership will be notified once the voting has been counted of the outcome as to whether they have gained one of the six leadership position. Of the six positions two will be elected as our 2018 Captains; the two captains will be announced in 2018 at our special Induction Assembly. We wish them luck in this often emotionally charged event.

This week we have: Monday 27 November – 2017 School Leaders Girls Speeches (morning Assembly) Tuesday 28 November – Book Fair + 2017 School Leaders Boys Speeches (morning Assembly) Wednesday 29 November – Book Fair final day + School Leaders Voting + final Weekly Assembly 2017 Thursday 30 November –final Scripture Class Xmas Cupcake Celebration for 2017 (note went home with students) Friday 1 December – final Primary Principal Association meeting for 2017

Friday 15 December – Final day for students for 2017 School Year Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 December – Staff Development Days for all teaching and support staff Kindergarten Orientation:

Last week we hosted our final Kindergarten Orientation visit for 2017. The new Kindergarten students have been wonderful during their visits they are all settling in well and excited about starting school in 2018. These visits are an integral part of our very successful transition to school program and I would like to thank parents and carers for organising their schedules so the children could attend. We look forward to a happy start to the 2018 school year for our new Kindergarten students and a long and successful school career.

Grandparents Day:

Last Wednesday we also hosted our 2017 Grandparents Day; we had a beautiful day and a large crowd of grandparents joined us for classroom activities, a Devonshire tea and our weekly assembly. The grandparents were full of wonderful positive feedback and our students were equally as impressed with being able to share their work with nans and pops. Thank you to all the grandparents who spent time with us on the day to make the event so special for our students. We are very thankful to be able to share our learning with you and for the support and influence that you provide in educating our children. Grandparents are so very important to us and we look forward to another similar event in 2018. See photos in this newsletter. Hot Weather: Once again thank you to parents who assisted students to ensure they had hats, water bottles and sunscreen at school as the weather continues to heat up. The students are reminded at our morning assembly and repeatedly throughout the day by their classroom teachers to wear their hats, keep sipping their water and to apply sunscreen. As yet, we haven’t had the end of year heat we experienced last year however we do have hot weather plans in place should this occur within the next few weeks. During hot weather we close Tawny Corner in the playground and during extremely hot weather we close the large playground and offer the students cool play areas in the shade, in the hall and alternate activities inside.

.

Final School Assembly for 2017 will be held this Wednesday 29 November 2017 starting at 2.15pm. S1K will perform the assembly item. Everyone is welcome to attend!
