COLGATE BASKETBALL GAME NOTES RAIDERS AT LIU BROOKLYN FOR FIRST OF THREE IN FIVE DAYS Colgate enters a tremendously active portion of its early-season schedule when the Raiders visit LIU Brooklyn (2-3) this Saturday in a 2 p.m. start. The NYC trip begins a stretch of three games in five days and four games over an eight-day period, highlighted by home contests against top-ranked Connecticut and perennial NCAA tournament participant Gonzaga. The Blackbirds are coming off a 68-66 overtime win at Navy on Wednesday night. The Raiders are 7-3 all-time against the Blackbirds, including a 75-61 triumph in the semifinals of the 2012 LIU Turkey Classic. Colgate has played five times in Brooklyn, winning three. Senior guard Paige Kriftcher hails from nearby Port Washington, located on the north shore of Long Island about 20 miles from the LIU Brooklyn campus. BUTLER & CO. IN CHICAGO HOMECOMING Randyll Butler led Colgate in rebounding for the fourth straight game, but it wasn’t enough in a 96-46 loss at No. 20 DePaul. The game was the first of potentially three this month against nationally ranked opponents. Colgate hosts No. 1 Connecticut on Dec. 9 and then Gonzaga, which has been receiving poll votes, on Dec. 13. Paige Kriftcher for the second outing this season led Colgate in scoring, finishing with eight. Mylah Chandler added seven and Ariel Etheridge six. Tori Pozsonyi posted career highs of 33 minutes and five points. Butler’s nine rebounds were a game high and marked the fourth time in four games she has paced Colgate on the boards. The Chicago native sports an 11.3 average. STONE BREAKS OUT WITH 24 POINTS Kateri Stone drew the first starting assignment of her young career Nov. 22 against Monmouth and led the Raiders with a collegiate-high 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting. The sophomore scored 15 in the game before at Cornell for her previous career best. Josie Stockill in the OT loss to Monmouth added 21 points – also a career high – and six blocked shots. STOCKILL SECOND NATIONALLYIN BLOCKED SHOTSJosie Stockill not only is climbing the Colgate career charts in blocked shots, but now she’s making waves nationally.

The senior forward stands second in all of Division I with a 4.5 blocked-shot average. In four games this season, Stockill has posted two games of six blocks and two more of three for a total of 18. That brings her career number to 154, leaving her just 16 shy of tying the Colgate record of 170 set by Leandra Fuller from 2002-05.

Randyll Butler leads the Patriot League in assists at 5.8 and is second in rebounding at 11.3. She’s ranked nationally in both categories. See statistical leaders Page 4.

STOUT NONCONFERENCESLATE CONTINUESColgate’s 2015-16 nonconference schedule stands with any in the country.

The heart of the challenging slate began Nov. 27 at No. 20 DePaul. Five of Colgate’s first six games are away from home, and their next Cotterell Court test comes Dec. 9 against three-time defending national champion Connecticut. Colgate then hosts 2015 NCAA regional finalist Gonzaga on Dec. 13.

Tickets to the Dec. 9 game against Connecticut at Cotterell Court are sold out.

RAIDERS PICKED 7TH IN PATRIOT LEAGUEColgate’s best finish to a conference season in a decade is producing higher expectations for the 2015-16 Raiders. Colgate is projected for a seventh-place result in the Patriot League Women’s Basketball Preseason Poll. Seventh is where the Raiders ended last season after winning their final three conference games and then adding another victory in the first round of the Patriot League tournament. The last time Colgate was projected for better than a seventh-place finish was 2010, when the Raiders and Lafayette were chosen for sixth in what was then an eight-team league.

Colgate continues its basketball resurgence under head coach Nicci Hays Fort. The Raiders in 2014-15 broke several re-cords using the hallmarks of the Hays Fort coaching style: strong defense, bench play and attention to detail at the free-throw line. Colgate won its final three conference games and wound up 7-11 in the Patriot League in 2014-15, posting its most league wins since the 2003-04 championship team went 10-4. The Raiders then went on to add another victory at home in the first round of the Patriot League tournament. The three-game league regular-season winning streak to end the campaign was Col-gate’s best in conference play since 2010. Colgate also sported its best conference win-ning percentage (.389) since the 2005-06 squad went 6-8 (.429). The Raiders’ 15-of-16 performance from the free-throw line in the two games of the Patriot League tournament lifted Colgate to 72.0 percent for the season. That is a program record, just eclipsing the 71.9 by the 2004-05 Patriot League tournament champions. Colgate at one point in 2012-13 led all of Division I in free-throw shooting before finish-ing at 71.2 percent. The Raiders in a 2013 up-set win over top-seeded Army held the Black Knights to 40 points, an all-time scoring low by a No. 1 seed in the Patriot League Tour-nament. And Colgate’s bench outscored its opposition over the course of that season by nearly 10 points per game. Those trends continued in 2013-14, when the Raiders upped both their conference vic-tory total and winning percentage, and made a vast improvement in their overall Rating Per-centage Index. Included was another win over eventual Patriot League champion Army. One reason for the program’s steadying foundation is Hays Fort following through on her promise of providing her team with play-ing opportunities in the best possible women’s basketball environments. “Every year, we strive to play teams that have participated in postseason play, thus challenging ourselves to compete against

some of the most competitive teams region-ally,” she said. Back in her debut season at Colgate, the Raiders managed to win five of seven home Patriot League contests en route to a 5-9 con-ference mark. During the 2012-13 season, Colgate upset top-seeded Army in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament on its way to a two-game overall improvement and 10-win season. Hays Fort has compiled 15 years of college coaching experience at every NCAA level. She arrived in Hamilton after serving as the associate head coach at DePaul University under the mentorship of successful head bas-ketball coach Doug Bruno. The Blue Demons were 112-54 (.675) during her association with the program, having guided the team to an NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance, five NCAA tournaments and a top-10 national ranking. Hays Fort mentored 14 All-Big East Confer-ence performers and two Big East Scholar-Athletes of the Year. In addition, she coached three WNBA draft picks: Felicia Chester of the Minnesota Lynx, Allie Quigley of the Seattle Storm and Jenna Rubino of the Chicago Sky. As DePaul’s recruiting coordinator, Hays Fort was responsible for bringing in Keisha Hampton, who played on the USA Basketball team; Katherine Harry, who was a unanimous selection to the All-Big East Freshmen Team; and Anna Martin, the Gatorade Player of the Year runner-up for Kentucky and a member of the Big East All-Academic Team. During her tenure with De-Paul, the team consistently was ranked in the Women’s Basket-ball Coaches Association Top 25 Academic Poll. Bruno said of his former assistant, “Nicci was the backbone of our staff through her successful five-year run. We had our best season in school history and Nicci Hays Fort played a vital role in our success. Her work ethic and her energy are second to none.” Prior to DePaul, Hays Fort served as head coach and as-sistant compliance coordinator at Barry in Miami Shores, Fla. She recruited and guided the Division II program to seven All-Sunshine State Conference selections, the SSC Freshman of the Year and three SSC All-Freshmen picks. In addition, she had 10 student-athletes named to the SSC Commission-er’s Academic Honor Roll. The Buccaneers under Hays Fort sported records of 14-14 in 2003-04, and 15-13 in 2004-05.
