Dear Employees of O’Neal Industries Companies,

I am pleased to present the O’Neal Industries Community Investment Report for 2013. My grandfather, Kirkman O’Neal, founded O’Neal on the belief that it was the Company’s responsibility to help improve the quality of life in the local communities in which we operate. We continue that foundation by investing in non-profit organizations that support the many causes that will benefit these communities as a whole.

We realize that many employees volunteer their time and give financial support to various causes. Because the need is great and we can’t support every request, we’ve set specific criteria for organizations to receive funding. For questions about this, please see the O’Neal Industries website – www.onealind.com on the About Us page.

We are sharing this information to encourage you to look for opportunities to give of your time, talent, and resources to community partners who are doing good work in your local area, and to thank those of you who already support numerous organizations, including those outside of our Company’s areas of giving.

Education

The Birmingham Education Foundation provides an opportunity for members of the Birmingham community to come together to support local schools and youth, elevating the quality of education in the Birmingham City Schools for the more than 25,000 school children it serves. The children of Birmingham are the city’s future leaders, business owners, and workers. The Foundation exists to see that every one of them has the opportunity to succeed.

Both the A.G. Gaston Boys and Girls Club in Birmingham and Boys and Girls Clubs in Metro Denver’s mission is to inspire and enable young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Ranging in age from 6-18, boys and girls participate in a variety of enrichment programs. Because the facilities are located in the neighborhoods where they are most needed, Boys and Girls Clubs are a “home away from home.”

Craft O’Neal, Chairman of O’Neal Industries, and Drew Langlogh, President of the United Way of Central Alabama, interact with students at Phillips Academy.

O’Neal Steel employees assembled backpacks for more than 200 students in the neighboring community of Kingston.

The Literacy Council of Alabama’s vision is for Alabama to be a community in which each person achieves his or her maximum literacy potential. More than 92,000 adults in Central Alabama are functionally illiterate. These individuals have trouble with everyday tasks such as reading road signs, understanding prescription labels or filling out a job application. They are held back from a better quality of life because they cannot read. The Literacy Council of Central Alabama is working to lower illiteracy rates in Blount, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker counties, giving those in need hope and greater opportunity by training volunteers to work with these individuals.

Junior Achievement empowers thousands of young people annually to own their economic success through K-12 programs fostering work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills, using experiential learning to inspire kids to dream big and reach their potential. Junior Achievement programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Students put these lessons into action and learn the value of contributing to their communities.

Health

The National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society is a group of passionate individuals working together toward a world free of multiple sclerosis. MS stops people from moving. The National MS Society exists to make sure it doesn’t. Their mission is to help each person address the challenges of living with MS through a 50-state network of chapters. The Society helps people affected by MS by funding cutting-edge research, driving change through advocacy, facilitating professional education, and providing programs and services that help people with MS and their families move forward.

St. Vincent’s Bruno Cancer Center offers an environment for cancer treatment with a state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility and a deep commitment to patient care, serving all people. Last year, patients made more than 670,000 outpatient and nearly 14,000 inpatient visits to Children’s from every county in Alabama and from 41 other states and four foreign countries.

Primary care is provided at more than a dozen medical offices in communities across central Alabama. Children’s of Alabama is the only medical center in Alabama dedicated solely to the care and treatment of children. Welfare

Pathways serves homeless women and children in the Birmingham area, providing a safe place to stay, clean clothes and hot meals. They also supply training and education programs to help both women and children transition back into the community. Pathways provides short-term and long-term transitional housing, plus permanent housing for homeless women with mental illness. Last year alone, Pathways served more than 1,500 homeless women and children.

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Their vision seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness. With the help of volunteers, they build quality, affordable housing and revitalize existing houses, encouraging family stability and promoting self-sufficiency, education achievement and responsible citizenship. Affordable housing dramatically changes a family’s life by breaking the poverty cycle.

The Meals On Wheels Association of America is the oldest and largest national organization composed of and representing local, community-based Senior Nutrition Programs in all 50 U.S. states and territories. All told, there are more than 5,000 local Senior Nutrition Programs in the United States. These programs provide well over one million meals to seniors who need them each day. Some programs serve meals at congregate locations like senior centers, some programs deliver meals directly to the homes of seniors whose mobility is limited, and many programs provide both services.

O’Neal Flat Rolled Metals sponsored a Meals on Wheels delivery car, which provided hot meals for many local senior citizens.

O’Neal Steel employees participated in two Habitat for Humanity builds in the summer and winter.

Weber/Morgan Children’s Justice Center was originally established in Ogden, Utah, to serve children 17 years of age or younger who are victims of alleged sexual or physical abuse. In recent years, there has been an increased demand for services for other crimes involving children, such as domestic violence, drug endangerment, and internet exploitation. The Children’s Justice Center facilitates the coordination between agencies investigating a child abuse case, and provide medical, legal and protective services to children and their families.

The Salvation Army Angel Tree is a national program that matches donors with children from qualified families unable to provide gifts and clothing to their children during the holidays. For many donors, the personal connection to a child in the community has become a special tradition. For participating companies and groups, the sponsorship program is a wonderful opportunity for employees to give back to their community through a fun and heart-warming tradition.

Leeco Steel employees assisted with stocking a food pantry at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Joilet, IL.

O’Neal Steel volunteers provided toys and clothes for 50 families during the 2013 holiday season through the Salvation Army Angel Tree program.

Civic / Arts and Culture

The Birmingham Zoo is Alabama’s most popular attraction, drawing more than 500,000 visitors annually. Approximately 750 animals of 250 species call the 122-acre Birmingham Zoo home. It is an economic engine for growth and tourism, and it also serves as a science and ecology hub for primary schools through scientific and conservation study programs.

The Nature Conservancy is the leading conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people. The conservancy works in all 50 states and more than 35 countries — protecting habitats from grasslands to coral reefs, from Australia to Alaska to Zambia. They address threats to conservation involving climate change, fresh water, oceans, and conservation lands.

The Historic Lyric Theatre was once the finest performing arts theatre in Birmingham and promises to be again. The Lyric offers a wider stage and closer audience – better suited for performing arts such as the symphony, ballet, opera and theatre. A restored Lyric Theatre is expected to host the many events the Alabama Theatre now turns away annually, creating an economic impact of an additional $5 million dollars a year for Birmingham, with as many as 200 construction and permanent jobs. With the economies of scale offered by the Alabama Theatre staff right across the street, the Lyric Theatre is confidently predicted to be completely self sustaining within three years of the completion of the restoration.

O’Neal Industries employees add light bulbs to the front stage of the historic Lyric Theatre in Birmingham as part of the campaign to “Light up the Lyric.”

The Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is the state’s only full-time professional orchestra making music and providing vital services to the residents of Alabama, serving nearly 100,000 individuals a year through concert series, youth programs, and educational and community engagement through music. In addition to enhancing the cultural offerings of the community, the ASO has an $18.2 million positive impact on the state’s economy, according to a recent study by Americans for the Arts.

Railroad Park is a 19 acre green space in downtown Birmingham that celebrates the industrial and artistic heritage of our great city. Situated in the heart of downtown, the park is a joint effort between the City of Birmingham and the Railroad Park Foundation. Hailed as “Birmingham’s Living Room,” Railroad Park provides a historically rich venue for local recreation, family activities, concerts, and cultural events.

United Way

Local United Ways throughout the country work in a coalition of charitable organizations to pool efforts in fundraising and support. The focus of United Way is identifying and resolving pressing community issues, as well as making measurable changes in the communities through partnerships with schools, government agencies, businesses,

organized labor, financial institutions, community development corporations, voluntary and neighborhood associations, the faith community, and others. The issues United Way offices

focus on are determined locally because of the diversity of the communities served. However, the main focus areas include education, income and health.
