In terms of pure opulence and theatre there is nothing that comes close to the classical or Greek look. Made up of huge columns, rich fabrics and minutely details sculptures and statues that tell stories of Gods and heroes, this hugely imitated style is a difficult one to pull off in a three bedroom semi- although this doesn’t deter some. Doric columns set around the front doors of British homes are an all too common crime against home decorat-ing. Although it is understandable that people would take influence from such a wonderful period, the misinterpretation comes in the loss of original proportions. You see nothing was ever a certain size or shape by accident, everything was painstakingly calculated so that buildings might be as close to perfect as possible. To achieve a look that obviously draws influence from the classical period without your appearing overly themed, all that is needed is the application of the following steps. Firstly choose a light and natural colour for your walls. This will ape the sun faded effect of Mediterranean walls without resorting to the dated practice rag rolling or other similar paint effects. Secondly add some subtle ornamentation like vases with flowers, granite statuettes or ornate frames. Keep the size of these ornament in proportion to your rooms though, do not overpower them- you want your rooms to appear large and airy not overcrowded. Lastly and most importantly refrain from removing the glass from your windows in a courageous bid for realism and instead choose a relevant window surround such as Roman blinds. By having your key classical feature at your windows, you now have license to use it numerous times without being guilty of milking it- clever you.Unlike stone columns, and Grecian statues, Roman blinds are inexpensive and easily installed within minutes. Made up simply of a length of fabric which contains a number of interspaced, horizontal, wooden poles they come in a huge range of styles and patterns. It is not only fans of the classical style who will love the effect Roman Blinds can have on a room.

Modern and minimal homes benefit from their simple styling and strong linear effect.Roman blinds are perfect for windows of any shape and size a the fabric and the poles and easily be altered in situ to get a perfect fit. Over large areas of glass it is preferable to use not just one but numerous Roman blinds side by side. This allows greater manipulation of light over a space and on a purely decorative level, echoes the natural linear pattern of the blinds themselves.A really beautiful addition to any home and guaranteed to compliment almost any scheme, Roman blinds have stood the test of time over many, many years. Their simple elegance has ensured that they continue to be just as popular today as when they were first conceived.Whatever colour scheme you use in your home there is a plain or patterned Roman blind available to coordinate or contrast with it perfectly.

I remember blankly staring at my basement bathroom a few years back and thinking “maybe some new faucets will clean the room up a bit”. Well, if only the project was that simple. The simple faucet replacement quickly escalated into ripping down a few walls and tearing out an old tub. The thought of “what have I done” definitely entered my mind by 10:00 that evening, but it’s something that I never regretted doing. I still have to chuckle at how those pretty little faucets ended up being my inspiration behind the entire bathroom renovation.

It may be hard to believe that faucets can play such an important role in enhancing a kitchen or bathroom. For this reason alone, it’s a good idea to put some thought into choosing just the right ones. Most of us tend to choose faucets that “look the nicest” without taking into consideration any quality, usability or economical factors. For instance, widespread faucets mounted on a standard 4-inch center sink can really pose problems when it comes to cleaning. I can attest to that. Cleaning can be enough of a chore without having to force your sponge in areas that even the most experienced cleaners would have trouble getting into. The best faucets are made from solid machined or forged brass. They will last you the longest and will cause the fewest problems.

Single-handle faucets have the advantage of practicality, but two-handled faucets tend to be more stylish. The spout’s height and reach should be considered, and the sink that you choose to go with it affects these factors. You’ll probably choose a goose-neck style faucet that offers more clearance for a kitchen sink so that the sink can

be easily cleaned. Lever-style handles are easier to operate than round knobs for individuals with limited hand strength.

Polished chrome has a great track record as a durable finish that won’t scratch or corrode, and it’s easy to clean. If brass is your preference, consider purchasing products that incorporate the product PVD (physical vapor deposition). This product offers a shiny brass finish that has virtually the same durability as chrome. Different manufacturers call their PVD brass finishes by different names, but most of them offer lifetime warranties on the finish. Colored-epoxy finishes are also popular, particularly in white. These finishes are baked on, durable and easy to clean. The down side is that they’re not scratch-resistant, so you should avoid using any abrasive cleansers.

There are many faucets on the market to choose from, just remember to make your purchase based on practicality as well as style. You’ll be happier with your decision in the long run.

This place, which also happens to be our intimate sanctuary, can truly say a lot about a person’s character and persona.

However, there are a few instances when the bedroom does not match its owner’s preferences and likes. This happens when the owner does not take time to decorate his or her room in such a way that it will reflect his or her personality.

To avoid such scenario, here are some bedroom decorating tips that would allow people to get to know more about you by just peeking into your favorite room.

1. Opt for an overall style or theme that fits your per-sonality

There are many home decoration styles you can choose from— traditional, modern, rustic, tropical, Asian, European, and so many more. It is best that you opt for one that will suit your personality. Then, make sure that the decorative ornaments that put in your room should match the theme that you chose.

For example, if you went for a modern style, adorn your walls with contemporary wall decor. On the other hand, if you prefer to live in a tropical haven, then it is a great idea to buy some tropical wall hangings for your room.

2. Choose a color that complements your dominant mood

We all have our favorite colors. This also says a lot about us especially our dominant mood. For example, people who usually have upbeat and cheery moods go for bright and warm shades like red, pink and orange.

Those who have laidback and easygoing nature tend to prefer pastel and light shades. Choosing the right shades for our room will not only be significant for reflecting your personality but also for making you feel contented and pleased with your surroundings.

3. Add fragrance

Fragrant home decors such as scented candles, potpourri and oils do

more than just beautify a room; they also make the room more fragrant and sweet smelling. This is also a good way to reflect your preferences, as there is a wide array of scents to choose from. Finding one that will match and complement your personality will not be at all difficult.

4. Put in memorabilia in your room

Aside from putting contemporary wall decor or some other type of wall hanging on your walls, you can also use memorabilia and other personal belongings to decorate it. Frame letters from loved ones, hang childhood photos and photos of fondest memories with family and friends, and adorn the room with souvenirs you got from your trips.

This is a great way of telling people about your lifelong experiences, likes, preferences, and the many other things about yourself.

The bedroom is one of the rooms in the house where we spend most of our time in. Therefore, it is only right that we are able to decorate and maintain it in such a way that it will positively reflect our personality and overall perspective in life.

Every second 5 people are born and

2 people die, a net gain of 3 people.

At this rate, the world population will

double every 40 years and would be 12

billion in 40 years, 24 billion in 80 years,

and more than 48 billion in 120 years.

However the United Nations estimate

that world population will stabalize at 12

billion in 120 years, citing that effective

family planning will result in a

universally low birth rate. Education

plays a key role: almost half of the 6

billion people are under age 25.

At the beginning of the second

millennium (1000 AD) the world

population was 400 million. In 1750

there were about 800 million people in

the world. In 1850 there were a billion

more, and by 1950, another billion.

Then it took just 50 years to double to

6 billion. In another 50 years the world

population is expected to be 9 billion,

which means that a decrease in growth

of the world population is expected.

They can be picked up anywhere from the supermarket to specialist dealers and one can be found to suit any budget. If you have a room that needs a lift or is lacking in unity and a central theme, with the help of simple ornamentation and detailing you may be able to avoid the expense of redecorating.

Our love of ornaments and decorating stretches back even further than architecture itself. Cavemen where painting the interiors of their caves long before we had invented walls. The Romans and ancient Greeks famously filled their temples, homes and streets with busts and statues. Even functional features like columns were beautifully and lovingly with no regard for the extra time required to create such detailed surfaces. Today these ancient forms of ornamentation remain as popular as ever. Framed pictures are still our favourite type of ornament for are homes. The reasons for this are clear to all- a photograph or painting can take us anywhere, take back to a special time, remind us of loved one and create any mood, all whilst match-ing, complimenting and enhancing the surrounding décor. The frames too can be found in any style, represent any period and match any budget- they can sometimes be considered works of art themselves. The classic bust or statu-ette has also retained its popularity, especially in outdoor settings where their size and robustness fits perfectly.

However, the most loved material for ornaments by homeowners over the last decade is undoubtedly wood. Wood of any type, carved in any style adds instant warmth and humanity to any space. It appeals to something instinctive and basic in us as the carving of wood has been a part of mans history since the dawn of the species. It has enabled us to hunt, it has sheltered us, it has even helped us to travel. Including wooden ornaments around your home is

a failsafe way of adding interest without risking a design gaff. Rustic, tribal, modern and natural styles can all be found in wood and will all sit perfectly on a mantle, shelf, sideboard or table.

Plants are also extremely popular as ornaments these days. The natural architectural style of the Yucca or the cactus make for striking decoration to be used anywhere in the home whilst the gentle curves and bright flowers of the Shield Aralia will bring real elegance to any space.

Though still popular in the classical style, statues now come in a huge range of styles and materials which allows them to fit into any scheme or setting. Cast iron, marble, plastic, fabric, glass and concrete all make for very chic and well defined style statement when shaped into a modern and representative style where figures aren’t bound by classical proportions and realism and are instead supposed to convey feeling and expression.

Nature also provides plenty of free ornaments if you are prepared to look, pebbles, rocks, driftwood, pinecones, and shells can all be arranged or used to fill a vase to beautiful effect.

1. Pay attention to color. We use color everywhere in our lives and it affects nearly everything we do. For the cooler months, darker, richer hues are ideal for creating a cozy, winter look in your living room. Rich browns, burgundies and dark greens and ochres are perfect for making it feel warmer inside, but you don`t have to run out and buy new furniture. Slip covers make it very simple to change the palette of a room, as do curtains.

2. Use plenty of texture. Clean and smooth is the way to go for hot weather, but once the snow starts to fall, it`s time to get nice and warm and fuzzy. Texture adds a lot of personality to a room and you can use as little or as much as you like, depending on your taste. This can mean anything from throwing a couple of warm fleece blankets over the back of the sofa or adding some fuzzy pillows to bringing out extra throw rugs and hanging up heavy oil paintings. Thicker curtains can also help warm a room.

3. Bring the outdoors in. Just because it`s cold and wet outside doesn`t mean there`s nothing interesting in nature. Try creating an arrangement of stark branches to place on the mantel, or find seasonal plants that can be brought indoors during this time. Like you would decorate with flowers in the spring, do the same with what you have at hand during the winter, albeit less colorful. A tall collection of reeds or decorative dried grass, for example, can lend a natural winter feel to a living room and keeps things from getting too bare.

4. Literally warm it up. If you have a fireplace, real or electric, now is a great time to fire it up. Keeping things cozy and warm with flames automatically makes the living room a place that feels like a retreat from the blustery world outside. But even if you don`t happen to have a fireplace, you can still create that homey feeling with candles. One or three candles (odd numbers tend to look better) set on the sideboard or on a low shelf are perfect if you just want to add a touch of warmth, but for a real comfort zone, try lighting a dozen or more around the room.

5. Change the decorations. Flat surfaces such as mantels, windowsills, coffee tables and shelves offer a multitude of decorating possibilities that we often forget to alter. What works for a summer layout isn`t going to work for winter, so take

a good look at the decorations and centerpieces that you have and make some seasonal changes. Winter scenes make a great alternative to floral paintings, while crystal jars and such are a great way to decorate a shelf.

Transitioning from a summer look to a winter one with these interior design tips should be a piece of cake. Think about what makes a room feel warm and inviting and then add that to your living room to create the perfect hideaway for cold, wintry days.

As many people say that green lawns give a magnificent look to your homes, almost every one wants to have blossoming lawn, the whole year. Maintaining lawns is not an easy job, but requires a special ability to do the job perfectly. It feels great to sip a coffee, watch your children play and feel the accent of the green grass. So to make this daydream a reality, you need to follow some important tips so that you can also feel the lush of a green lawn.

Ways to make you greenUsually it is observed that in the winters, the grass of the lawn stops growing, which may give rise to bare spots. These spots are really problematic at the time of heavy frost, but you can still maintain your lawn green by over seeding it by rye seeds. The rye grass continues to stay green in winters as well.

However, in summers this grass finishes completely and dries off, leading the normal grass seeds to grow up. This way, in winters as well as in summers, you can obtain a green lawn.

To keep your lawn healthy, you should make use of fertilizers in required amount and water the plants at regular intervals. If you do not water the plants appropriately, they will go dry and if you over water them, fungus will start emerging at the bottom of the plants. Talking of fertilizers, you should always use a high quality fertilizer in every three months. Regularly applying a required amount of ferti-lizer will help your lawn to keep flourishing all the time. You can also use weed and feed to give nutrition to the soil of your lawn and also to relieve of the unwanted weeds. Moreover while applying fertiliz-ers all the given instructions should be read thoroughly and proper care should be provided to the lawns.

Using Broom RakeWhen you are ready to start seeding, it is recommendable to rake before the seeding process with a double duty rake. This will allow seeds to have extra spacing and they can respire properly. Not only this, raking a lawn shall also help the seeds to grow properly.

Sprinkling SeedsBefore sprinkling the seeds you should always rake your lawn with a heavy duty broom rake. After completing the process of raking you can sprinkle the seeds, but the seeds that you re using should be of

a high quality. This ensures a better growth of the seeds and a thick green grass. After sprinkling the seeds you should spray some water on the seeds that will help them to nurture.

Choosing seeds for the lawnUsually, there are different types of grass that can be grown according to the season. You can select from a wide range like for cold seasons you can opt for seeds including bent grass, rye grass and blue grass to name a few and for summer seasons you can choose buffalo grass, centipede grass, Bahia grass, Zoysia grass and lot more. It all depends on the favorable weather conditions that will initiate the grass to grow faster. Generally, the shady areas make it difficult for the grass to grow up, especially in winters, so you can opt for rye grass to have lush in the lawn all over the winter as well.

Online TipsThere are a plenty of websites presented on the internet, which will endow you with the data on keeping up the lawns emerald green all the year. Moreover, you can also get a thorough acquaintance on the related matters like from where can I find seeds, the best seeds of the season that should be sown, choosing fertilizers and lot more. So feel free to surf the internet and make your lawns green for the whole year.

The history of adhesive tape dates back to the 1920’s when Richard Drew used cellophane paper to create a of tape with an adherent, sticky surface. The first “adhesive tape” was created as masking tape for use with various industrial products. But, Drew’s creation showed promise for other uses in packaging as well. The first adhesive tape came to called “cellophane tape” owing to the first material used to create it.

“Scotch” Tape - 1930When the first roll of “cellophane tape” was sent to a customer in 1930, the 3M company was moved to produce a product known as “Scotch Tape”, the more familiar name by which adhesive tape is known. However, since the early days of adhesive tape, the types of tapes sold today are virtually endless in variety.

Adhesive Tape - UsesThe primary use for adhesive tape has been packaging. Packaging tape comes in a wide range of sizes from narrow half-inch to shipping tape sizes which range from one and a half inches to two inches. Sizes are standardized so that they can be used with tape dispensers. The material from which adhesive tapes are made today are cellophane, acrylic, fiberglass, silicone, foil, rubber and paper, depending on the strength of the bonding required for the particular project. In addition to packaging and shipping for cartons, boxes and parcels for mailrooms, adhesive tapes are used as sealants for ductwork, electrical wiring as well as for strapping of containers and for stabilizing carpeting. Adhesive tapes may be double sided, reinforced for sealing, velcro-sided and foam-backed for insulation purposes.

Special Purpose Adhesive TapeAdhesive tapes are used for special jobs. As an example, painters often use masking tape as their guide so that paint doesn’t over-extend from walls into ceilings. Polyimide film adhesive tape is used for masking circuit boards and splicing wires. There are also heavy duty adhesive tapes for stronger bonding of items of heavy weight. Acid-free adhesive tapes are used to mat and frame pictures, artwork and documents. Adhesive tapes are also manufactured for permanent bonds in high temperature industrial areas. Adhesive transfer tape is most often used to adhere small signs to a smooth surface. Double-sided black foam tapes are preferably for mounting heavy dispensers like mailboxes, lavatory dispensers, fiberglass panels and large signs. Vinyl acrylic tape is used by law enforcement to cordon off crime scene areas. Adhesive tapes come in many colors from clear to patterns for better identification.

The Many Styles of Adhesive TapeIn addition to the familiar “roll” of tape, adhesive tape is sold in large coils for industrial purposes, pre-cut in various sizes and shapes from strips to small adhesive tape “dots” in single or double-sided ranges. Adhesive tape dispensers are usually sold with the tape roll for household and school uses. Larger desktop dispensers, hand-held and larger industrial “roller” dispenser are sold for additional convenience in handling projects where adhesive tape is required.

Adhesive Tape - A Convenience and NecessityAdhesive tape serves numerous purposes. The convenience of adhesive tape makes it virtually indispensable around the home and business. Whenever an important document suffers a sudden tear, adhesive tape repairs it fast.About the Author: Written by Mister Bento Writing under his pen name, Mister Bento is a member of the research team at a leading wet wipes and adhesive tapes manufacturer in Europe. Hi Reena,My Arborite counter is almost 14 years old. When the counter was new it resisted all stains (to my joy). Now that it is older, stains seem to be more powerful and harder to clean. I am not willing to replace the countertop; do you have any suggestions for renewing the surface? Tracy

Hi Tracy,High-pressure decorative laminates such as ‘Arborite’ brand are popular however, stains on laminate are sometimes tricky because they have a tendency to seep into the plastic and become part of the fabrication just as dye stains on fabrics. Begin by making a paste of baking soda and water. Leave for 15-30 minutes and scrub. If that doesn’t clean it use a product called “Countertop Magic.” This is a spray cleaner made to clean and restore the luster of Formica and plastic laminates; it’s available athome-improvement stores.

Dear Reena,What is your trick to get crazy glue off of fingers? Gloria

Dear Gloria,When this happens soak (and I mean soak for at least 15 minutes) your fingers in one of the following; Coke or the hottest water that you can stand or acetone. Gently pry the glue off of your fingers and wash.

Hello Reena,We have a granite cutting board that matches our counter tops. The top of the cutting board is finished the same way as the counters, therefore it is shiny, smooth and sealed. The bottom however, is rough and unfinished. Over the past year the bottom of the cutting board has developed a rank smell. It smells like algae or mould. I have tried everything to clean this, as we really do not want to throw the expensive cutting board out, but nothing takes the smell away. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? Thank you. Sarah

Hi Sarah,This is not a very common occurrence. However, all stone, even granite, is porous to some degree, and will absorb moisture over time. Some stones are more porous than others, so it is important to use a penetrating sealer on the working surface (just as you have) to prevent stains from oil, wine, or other liquids from soaking into the surface. While unusual, stone can absorb odors. Here are a few solutions, be careful not to allow the substances to touch the sealed top area of the cutting board as it will eat away at the sealer. Put about one quarter cup rubbing alcohol into a bottle and then fill the rest with water. Add a few drops of dish washing soap. You can use this to spray underneath your cutting board. Other options are spraying or soaking the underside of the counter with 50/50 3% hydrogen peroxide or vinegar or wipe with tea tree oil. The liquids will seep into the stone and should kill the mildew smell. You can seal the underside of the cutting board however sealer is not a permanent fix.

Hi Reena,Is there a problem using homemade fire starters made of sawdust and wax or dryer lint and wax in fireplaces. I am concerned about wax creating a coating in the chimney? Thanks for your help. Jean

Hello Jean,Dryer lint, egg cartons, pencil shavings, empty toilet paper rolls and saw dust are suitable fire starters used for an inside fireplace. Wax additions are better left for outdoor fireplaces because as you said wax build-up in chimneys can become a problem over time. An alternative to homemade wax fire starters is to save old newspapers and layer one loosely over top of another. Following many layers, leave to dry for several months. Toss in the fire as a fire starter; be sure to use black and white ink paper only.

Hi Reena,I’ve got black stuff building up along where the top of the tub meets the tub surround. I’m assuming that it is mould of some type and I’ve tried bleach with no success do you have any other suggestions, as it is very unappealing. Thanks so much, Parker Dear Parker,Due to their small size, mixture of surfaces and the fact that bathrooms generate tremendous amounts of moisture and humidity, this room is a natural breeding ground for all types of bacteria and mildew. There are an amazing amount of mould

cleaners on the market, which could take care of your challenge. However, my favorite solution is to combine a spray bottle full of vinegar with a few drops of

tea tree oil (much less toxic and does a good job). Scrub with an old toothbrush or a pumice stone. If the mildew remains, sprinkle borax or baking soda to make the area more abrasive, scrub and rinse. One other suggestion that many people attest to is applying a small amount of car wax to areas that tend to grow mildew as a preventative measure.Additionally a typical shower can produce a pint of water in the form of humidity. To reduce humidity and make the bathroom more comfortable, damp air must be quickly and efficiently removed from the room. The best practice is to install a bath exhaust fan that is quiet and properly sized to the room dimensions. Additionally, it should have a feature that enables it to be controlled on a timer.

The relationship between wine and food goes back a long way and there are long standing traditions governing the pairing of certain wines with certain foods. This proper combination of the appropriate wine with a delicious meal results in an enjoyable experience by all who are participating in the event. By choosing the correct wine the taste of the meal can be enhanced greatly and the same is true of the correct dish being served along with the wine.

It is not necessary to spend lavish amounts of money at some exclusive restaurant to achieve satisfaction; you can have the experience in your own home.

The rules for pairing certain wines with certain foods goes back to the 1800s when French chefs were traveling throughout Europe and sharing their opinions on what wine should be drank with a certain meal. This is where the basis for serving white wines with seafood comes from and that of serving red wines with red meat and wild game. Sometimes in modern times these rules have been bent or broken due to more availability of a greater variety of wines.

The key to the proper harmony of wine with a meal is to always take care that the wine and the meal compliment one another and not com-pete with each other, for example serving a premium wine with a more average meal instead of trying to combine the best wine and the best meal all at the same time. Another key point is to serve regional wines with their equivalent local dishes, for example certain Spanish dishes

are best served with a Spanish wine from the region the food originates from.

To help you make the right choices in matching the appropriate wine to a meal bear these things in mind:

Always consider the richness of both and choose a heavier full bodied red wine in most cases for a rich red meat or wild game meal. There are some white wines that could be appropriate as a matter of personal taste.

Never serve a dry wine with dessert, always choose a wine that is at least as sweet as the confectionary delight being served.

Wines that are higher in tannins should served with high protein meals which mix with the tannins and lessen the tannin taste. If you attempt to serve a high tannin wine with fish or other seafood they will sometimes give an unpleasant metallic taste or even taste bitter with salty dishes.

So keep the old rules in mind when making your choices but also remember that they can be bent a little in consideration of an exceptional wine or rare meal.

Summer has come and it is time now to stop under your baggy jumpers and take out your vest tops and flip-flops as winter has now taken a back seat. For me the sun brings nothing but smiles and friendly locals; there certainly is differences in the way people feel when summer hits our land. However, no matter how much you want to enjoy the sun and put on your factor 15 sun cream working on your tan, there is one thing people overlook - dehydration.

Many offices do not have air conditioning and are often filled with computer. This is then added by the sunshine heat and turns the office into a roasting oven, leaving many people feeling uncomfortable and taking regular trips outside to gain some fresh air. One main thing that modern offices have taken action upon is installing water coolers for staff. These are a good reminder to continue stocking up on your water intake.

Even schools have taking the steps into installing water coolers to increase the number of children drinking water, making them become aware of living a

healthier lifestyle and reducing the amount sugary drinks they consume. Recent campaigns have seen a change in the school canteens with healthier food options and more resources made available to young people and adults on the risks of consuming too much of the wrong kinds of food.

During the summer in particular, people

are unaware that they are losing a lot of water from sweating more as their body temperature is raised. In these cases, people need to drink water and rehydrate themselves, lack of fluids cause people to feel fatigued and lethargic. More importantly, if you are an active person who regular visits the gym then you are in need of increasing the amount of water you normally consume.

Many gyms have water coolers or water fountains at hand for people to consume in between exercises, if they do not have a bottle of their own. Anyone going for a workout should in particular use these to keep themselves hydrated, as it does affect how well you workout. When we are dehydrated, our mental performance decreases by approximately ten percent and almost doubles the amount on our physical performance.

Therefore, drinking regular amounts of water will keep you active and mentally alert. Many people mistake this for hunger and the resulting affect is overeating and weight gain. Hunger and thirst feel the same as each other, with thirst being a prominent dry feel in the mouth and throat. This is often overlooked causing people to forget or ignore the need to drink water. One thing to remember is that you do not need to drink water in large bulks, but to sip a minimum of two litres of water throughout the day.

Furthermore, this will benefit the way you look in terms of keeping your skin looking younger and toxin free. The more water you drink the more your body will flush out any toxins, which will give a natural glow for the summer. Drinking water regularly will also help to keep you weight maintained so you will naturally feel light and avoid any minor ailments and stomach issues.

If you are at work or spend most of your day on your feet, it is a good idea to just keep a small bottle with you in your bag or take a trip to the nearest water cooler or fountain unit. You can see this as a way to recharge your battery or filling yourself with much needed fuel. It is very easy to neglect your water intake or even skip a meal, which is why it is important to stay on top of this at all times as much as possible.

The time is right now when it comes to saving on the amount of gasoline that your vehicle consumes. There are many things that you can do that will cut down on how much your vehicle will use when it comes burning gasoline fruitlessly. You should make sure that your vehicle gets regular tune-ups,the spark plugs are kept clean and replaced when need; also make sure that you check your transmission fluid periodically. The motor to your vehicle will burn less gasoline if the above steps are kept up on a continuous basis. Your vehicle is just like a family member that needs constant care and consideration. Other things that can help you with your vehicle in saving on the gasoline are not expensive but a bit time consuming.

You need to make sure that the pressure in your tires is at the right amount by checking them monthly with a proper tire gage. The lack of enough air can cause you to have an accident that could be fatal as well as causing you to burn more gasoline. You should not set in long lines such as drive-ins for food or at banks as this causes your engine to use more gasoline. You should watch when you are in traffic back-ups to turn off the engine and restart it again when the traffic is flowing. It is not necessary to keep your motor idling as this burns more gasoline than when you start up your vehicle. Do not use an expensive gasoline this will not help you save on your gasoline expense. There are some very good fuel additives that will help you save on gas giving you better mileage and performance for your vehicle.

Many times people tend to speed up their vehicle on a major highway thinking that this will help save on gasoline it actually burns more gas. You need to keep your vehicle going at an even speed when doing highway

driving. It is very wise to use your cruise control if your vehicle is equipped with one. You should also consider using a GPS as this will help you not to take longer alternative routes or get stuck on your regular route with traffic back-ups. The GPS tracker is great to prevent you from getting caught on a highway that has construction back-ups, resent accidents, or closed due to bad storms. You need to be aware of what is happening around you before you decide to take an alternate route and that is what a GPS tracker enables you to do. Take a few tips and you will find that you can save a lot on your gasoline consumption.

When it comes down to saving on gas, you have to remember that 99% of the time it’s based on the user. If you drive wreck less and don’t care about your gas consumption, your wallet is going to show it. There are many ways to save on gas. Do your research online and find some great ways to cut your gas bills by 25%.

It is said that, in 1941 the Ford motor company produced an experimental

automobile with a plastic body composed of 70% cellulose fibres from hemp. The car body could absorb blows 10 times as great as steel without dent-

ing. The car was designed to run on hemp fuel. Because of the ban on both hemp and alcohol, the car was never

mass produced.

There are more than 16,400 parking metres in Manhattan, New York.

New York cabs get about 2000 tickets per month, handed out by about 2000 traffic

attendants.

Manhattan traffic crawls at an average of 6.2 miles an hour on midtown city

streets.

A gallon of gasoline produces 8.8 kg of CO2.

The first Ford cars had Dodge engines.

About a quarter of the world still drives on the left, and the countries that do are

mostly old British colonies.

There are about a billion bicycles in the world, twice as many as motorcars.

In 1955, the Ford Thunderbird outsold the Chev Corvette 24 to one.

A car cover is a great and convenient way of providing your car with a layer of robust protection that will keep it looking good and maintain the value of your investment in it. The odd scratch and ding dramatically reduces the look of your vehicle’s appearance and more radically reduces the dollar value of your investment!Like everything else in life – not all car covers are equal! You need to take into account certain factors and make sure your car covers come up to the standards you demand.

Sun Block CapacityThe effect of the sun on paintwork is horrendous – paintwork fades and certain colours such as red paint are particularly susceptible to the sun.The culprits are the ultra violet rays in sunlight - - the same harmful rays which cause sun burn in us and they can penetrate clothing and materials unless they are designed specifically to filter out the harmful UVcomponent of the sun.Make absolutely certain that your car cover is blocking the sun – a car cover will state it can and if it does not, leave it alone and find another one as it is offering no sun protection.

Water Proof not Water ResistantThe rain and water obviously adversely affect a car’s bodywork – it is not simply the rust issue but the impact upon the paint job as well as raincarries other pollutants and compounds which have an acidic effect on paint and the lacquer finish applied to protect a car’s appearance. You must ensure that a car cover is water proof and not just water resistant.A water resistant cover will have been treated so water finds it harder to penetrate but no matter, the water will still eventually find a way through

the cover and can start acting on your bodywork.A water proof cover stops water from coming into contact with yourbodywork because water is simply unable to get through the cover no matter how strong the rain and wind are.

Easy FitA car cover need not be one of these heavy tarpaulin types you may have seen on an automobile in someone’s yard – they should be quickly and easily fitted by a 100 pound lady and in as much time as it takes to fasten your seat belt.

Easy StorageA car cover should be simply and quickly stowed when not in use and lightweight enough so it can be transported with you in the trunk when you are on a trip or stowed in the garage at home.

Durable and FlexibleThe car cover is taking the brunt of the effect of the environment including the weather, children, pets and other factors. It has to be strong andtough to take the knocks and bumps, wind, rain, snow and sun but it must also be capable of maintaining its protective properties even after being stored for lengthy periods of time. The material for the car cover should also be flexible so it does not crack or wear out especially along the creases created by folding for storage and then being left forlengthy periods of time.

Issue #26- July 2/09Page 50

Baseball is often referred to as the Great American Pastime and it is funny to think that the exact history of baseball is vastly unknown. General historians mostly believe that it is roughly based on an English game called rounders. The game grew in popular in the north east around the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. The precise name of the sport had adjusted several times from “base”, to “roundball” to “cricket” throughout the beginnings of baseball history.

At that same timeframe of the early nineteenth century a number of cities began to form teams and leagues. The sport began to grow in popularity enough that the players and patrons of the game decided that they really needed to formalize the specifics of the game. So in 1845 Alexander Cartwright began formulating a list of rules that all teams are to follow by and ironically enough a number of those rules are still followed today. Cartwright is believed to have been the actual founder of the game and not Abner Doubleday say baseball historians. Cartwright was a fireman that formulated the basic premise of the sport and is credited with creating the first teams that used to play in New York with other fireman. He was credited with forming the Knickerbockers Baseball Club which sculpted baseball history. He then decided to follow the riches of the California Gold Mine and began spreading the game westward. His travels helped to expand this new game throughout the country.

The very first game of record actually took place a year after Cartwright developed his team in 1846. Ironically his team the Knick-erbockers lost to the Baseball Club in a game at the Elysian Fields in Hoboken, NJ. As word spread of this interesting game it became more

popular and began to have many more participants. So in the 1850’s a number of teams in the northeast came together to discuss rules and expanding the game and in 1858 they created the National Assoc. of Baseball Players, which is recognized as the first baseball league ever created in the history of baseball.

The sport blossomed in the late 1850’s as membership grew from 100 to over 400 teams and then the Civil War came about. The 1860’s civil war time decimated the interest in baseball as there was obviously no time for baseball. Yet, interestingly enough baseball began to travel to other areas throughout the country. Once the war ended the sport began to blossom again. Teams grew and cities throughout the country began to take interest and began to play one another.

The NABP was initially supposed to only be comprised of amateur athletes but like any sport it became very competitive and the best players were compensated which obviously has stood the time of baseball history. The sport began to change in 1869 when the Cincinnati Red Stockings (soon to be the Cincinnati Reds) decided to become the first professional team and pay there players. The Wright brothers who owned the team decided to recruit the best talent from around the country and they challenged all comers. They were so good that they went 65 and 0. With such little competition the idea of creating a completely professional league was sparked and in 1871 the National Association was developed.

Then in 1876 the National League was created as the National Association was dissolved. The National League which is still in existence today had a stronghold on all the major cities of the time and maintained the best players. In the early 1900’s the American and National league were formed which as we all know still remains. These changes in the 1900’s established the two leagues, the world series and established player contracts. The history of baseball had firmly been formed and was well on its way to establishing itself as the Great American Pastime.

Issue #26- July 2/09Page 56

The majority of new golfers are self-taught, and until they take the game up seriously, it is an uphill battle trying to even learn the basics of the golf swing. So how does the new golfer find a short cut for a better game, without taking the fairways apart in frustration?

In learning a new challenge, you have to take one small step at a time. Start off with the smaller steps, or goals, and slowly working towards the bigger goals. The game of golf has a short, medium and big swing. Once you learn the short swing and game, work your way up to the big swing and game. Golf is all in finding the feel of your golf swing. This golf tip will surely improve anyone’s game, once they find the balance and feel of a pendulum golf swing in motion. The following golf practice tip will help you understand the golf swing and what it takes to make it work effectively.

Place yourself around a green or a target with a 7 iron, pitching wedge and approximately 10 to 15 golf balls. If you are on a practice range, try and find an obstacle to go over during the practice. It will boost your confidence on the golf course. Step away from the golf balls and practice short swings with your feet together glancing at your attended target. Do not attempt to hit a golf ball until you feel comfortable with your short swing. If you must, hit one golf ball with your desired club to find and feel the distance for your attended target. Use very little wrist action on the take-away and follow through creating a v shape with the arms. Try to find and feel the pendulum motion of the golf club by grazing the grass,

as you swing away glancing at the attended target.

Your goal is to find and feel the pendulum motion of the golf club making contact with the ball with your feet together. You will notice how your upper portion of the body will automatically coil on it’s own, and you lower body will move in unison with your upper body. Once you find the pendulum feeling of the golf club and swing, take a bigger swing. Gradu-ally learn to sweep the grass with a quarter, half, three quarter and a full swing. You will notice yourself losing balance as you take fuller swings, and have to gradually move your feet apart until you find a balanced comfort zone.

With enough practice and effort, your golf score will improve dramatically with the knowledge of what it takes to make a ball bounce off the face of a golf club with a pendulum motion of the golf swing, once you find the balance and feel of a short swing and game. Practicing this golf tip frequently will also help in choosing the right club and swing, for distance in your short game.

Climbing is a competitive sport that requires people to be in good physical and mental condition. The rugged terrains that are often encountered while out rock climbing in the wild, have the tendency to test a person’s endurance levels past anything they have experienced before in their life. Rock climbing leaves people with a heightened sense of awareness and a greater appreciation for the outdoors.

They learn to enhance their self-esteem just by completing simple climbs that to a professional might seem boring, but once they have conquered that small task, they have built up confidence in their own abilities. While they are testing those abilities during the various stages of their training, they are also becoming more familiar with the equipment that could very well save their life one day. Every climber will gain experience and learn from everything they do that involves rock climbing.

People will get so stimulated by climbing rocks that they will choose to participate in rock climbing competitions to achieve more thrills. There are rock-climbing courses that are fashioned for beginners in the sport, and others will meet the needs of climbers who have perfected their talents to the intermediate and advanced levels. A person can achieve a good sense of well-being from just completing one course in the competitions and the true winners will be the ones who had the courage to sign-up in the first place. Some people learn a lot about themselves and others while participating in climbing competitions.

Climbing is a sport that grows on a person. It is certainly not something that is done without prior planning or thorough training. One of the first things that climbers will learn is that they never climb alone because beautiful scenery up in the mountains is meant to be shared by family and friends. Some families get interested in climbing when they go on whitewater rafting trips and see people climbing rocks above them along the river’s path.

Some people do not have the discipline it takes to enjoy rock climbing on a continual basis. These are the people who are not wiling to listen to experienced climbers and think that they can accomplish a rock climb without having the necessary techniques under their belt to do it successfully. These people are the ones that guides have trouble managing and will not ever take up a mountain again until they display considerable progress on being able to work as a team member while climbing.

Rock climbing can be an invigorating but dangerous sport. Every member of a rock climbing group must have their wits and sen-sibilities about them at all times. Mistakes can cost people their lives and climbers who are not ready for various tasks should be comfortable with letting others know about it without just automati-cally doing it to save face in front of friends. No two climbers will see things alike and being an individual is still an important feature of climbing even if the person is in a group.

Fish mounts come in several shapes sizes, colors and materials. There is much more to them than you might at first think. Whether you want to bring home a trophy to remind you of your recent fishing vacation or you simply want an at-tractive wall decoration that reflects your hobbies, you’ll have several options for the perfect fish mounts.

Traditional taxidermy

These are what we normally think of as fish mounts – or stuffed fish. They’ve been around for centuries and you can have the very fish you caught preserved for the future this way. These fish mounts are actually the skin of the fish you caught stretched over a plaster or foam frame back into the life-like shape; in fact, so life-like you’d swear the fish was still swimming. These kinds of wall mounts are then usually mounted in wood and glass cases and they may have a background painted in keeping with the fish mount.

To have this service performed on a fish you have caught, you should wrap the whole fish in a wet towel, taking care that the fins are flattened properly to the body of the fish. Freeze the whole fish inside a plastic bag if you are choosing a taxidermist which isn’t in your local town or you can’t get to them immediately. After all, you want your fish mount to be preserved in peak condition. In this way it can be mailed in an insulated box so it will still be frozen when it arrives with the taxidermist.

Conservation and pure squeamishness mean that taxidermy is not an option everyone wants to pursue. Now, however, there is an alternative way to get great fish mounts.

Fiberglass Replicas

These aren’t fish at all, but these fish mounts sure do look real these days. They are realistically painted and stylish; these types of fish mounts are lighter in weight than the traditional taxidermist’s art.

You can have your exact fish made into a replica by taking a series of photos of it from all possible directions. A taxidermist or a specialist in fiberglass replica fish mounts will then reproduce this fish in perfect detail – while the fish lives to swim another day. The background to your fiberglass replica fish mounts can then have a specially designed scene to match the particular conditions in which the fish was caught.

Many people would never be able to tell the difference between a traditional skin fish mount and a fiberglass replica fish mount. It’s just as realistic and individual as the fish you caught, but you will have the satisfaction of knowing that the fish didn’t need to relinquish its life for you to have a great fish mount as your trophy reminder of a great day of fishing.

When parents took their children to lakes during the summer they were intent on teaching their children to ski. These unsuspecting parents had no idea what their children might choose to do with that newly acquire talent. At first the parents were all in favor of the many hours that their children chose to spend outside. They were not privy to the fact that all of that time was spent on skis learning various tricks.

The parents were very positive about skiing because they felt that this water sport was a good physical activity that would keep their children busy and out of trouble for the better part of the summer. Looking outside once in a while might have given them a reason to change their minds. If they had, they might have had a hand in training their children for the things that were occurring in the middle of the lake.

The parents never gave it a second thought when they saw ramps being built on docks in the center of the lake. They did notice the increase in high speed boats on the water and made a mental note to check in to that fact with the neighbors. They wanted to caution their children to stay out of the way of those boats, but even if they had remembered it would have been too late.

When water sports are enjoyed by children without parental controls, they

have a tendency to get very extreme in a very short amount of time. The superb craftsmanship in water skis in use today is very different from the skis that parents used when they went water skiing as a child and the new age athletes get totally addicted to this particular water sport.

The things that can be done on the new designs in water skis are definitely different from the old days. The ski designs are made with lighter materials that allow them to soar through the air and twist and turn with precision accuracy that people grew to love the sports extremely well. Water skiing has turned into extreme water sports that require extremely refined skills and nerves of steel.

Parents are in awe of the number of feats that can be accomplished on skis and some people simply wonder how some skiers manage the moves that they do when they rise up out of the water behind the ski boat with no skis on their feet. Even if the skis are lightweight, there are some water sports enthu-siasts that prefer to ski barefoot. They are still able to achieve great heights when they ski but they prefer to experiment with the no shoes approach that they consider a skill.

Many fishermen like to stand at edge of the river to catch fish, but most people make use of their boats. Those that enjoy wading get a bit of an adrenal rush from being in the water with the fish. Wading can be dangerous at times so one must be cautious; leaving it much safer to stay in the boat. Before any fishing trip you need to ensure that you have a good working fishing boat that will not leave you stranded. There are many different types of boats and you are sure to find the one best for you.

Sports boats are popular and offer many comforts while on the water. When you think of making the purchase you should also consider safety while on the water. Sports boats can be used not only for fishing, but also enjoying the water. There are many activities that can be carried out around your fishing time with a sports boat. Skiing, wakeboarding and many other activities offer something for everyone in the family. So not only can you catch tonight’s dinner you can also have a great time in a sports boat.

Skiffs are also considered a fishing boat. They are made for shallow water and can carry 2 people. These work best for smaller water areas and can be easily maneuvered around the water. Skiffs are very popular in smaller lakes and rivers around the world.

Light tackle boats can be used for about 4 people at a time. They are great for just about any type of fishing due to the ability to move around the boat. Fishermen can easily walk around the boat, which is necessary for many catches. The light tackle boat is one of the fishing boats that can be used to catch a wider variety of fish. Since the light tackle boat is a bit bigger it is sturdier for the bigger catches.

If deep-sea fishing is the journey that you are looking for you will need an offshore boat. The offshore boats are larger in size and generally range from 35-45 feet and can accommodate up to 6 fishermen or guests. The deep-sea fishing boat must be able to withstand the ocean water and the pull of the larger fish.

Of course the party boat or head boat can also be used for fishing expeditions. These boats are generally larger in size to accommodate guests. There are many luxuries of party boats so not only can your guest’s fish they can also relax and enjoy the water. These are great for picnics and a family gets together as well.

What ever you’re fishing needs there are a variety of fishing boats that can accommodate the beginner fisherman or the more experienced. Choosing a fishing boat can sometimes be confusing so be sure and read up on the different types to determine the best fit for you and your family.

A Fishing Boat Can Make Your Fishing Trip

The fishing experience for many is great fun. Much of the fun comes from cruising the lake or river in a sporty boat.

Issue #26- July 2/09 Page 71

Trouts can be found in many freshwater streams, lakes and rivers across the globe, particularly in the United States, Canada, Europe and New Zealand.

As a fisherman, it is important that you always consider what type of trout you are after and their feeding habits to better understand and plan your approach.

There are three very popular types of trout:

• Speckled trout (brook trout) • Rainbow trout • Brown trout

The species and type will depend on where you are fishing at and what part of the world you are in.

Brook trout (speckled trout) thrive in smaller streams of good water quality, in pools of water more shallow than where you typically find other types of trout. They are smaller in size than other trouts but can be very aggressive.

Rainbow trout are typically native to the west coast of USA but due to stocking, they are found in many other areas as well. They occupy large water of streams and rivers and have different habitats than the other two types. They are famous for their “tail-walking” which is similar to water acrobats and is quite exciting for many fishermen to watch.

The Brown trout is larger in size compared to the Brook trout and the Rainbow trout. It is found in abundance in many areas of Europe and USA. This type of trout are usually more difficult to catch as they are wary of fishing lures and bait and not aggressive as the brook trout. More patience are required when fishing for brown trout. They are usually found in deeper pools of water and most often feed early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

Before you set off for your trout fishing trip, do you homework. Find out as much about the area/ streams/rivers that you will be fishing on. Are there many fishermen fishing there too? What’s the temperature and climate? Is the area a public or government owned that has regulations? Go on the internet and join a forum so you can ask around people who have fished there before.

The more you know about the area and the fish that you plan to catch, they more successful you will be in your trout fishing attempts.
