“We thank you, Lord, for the joy and pleasure these people have brought to our lives. Grant that they may lead a life that is filled with an abundance of laughter, a limitless measure of love and contentment, and a deep and abiding faith in you. Amen.”
First Reconciliation & Communion. On January 6th, 10 children from our parish received their First Reconciliation. These children have met for a few months and have learned about God’s unconditional
love. We had a beautiful retreat with different activities, Mass and lunch. Special Thanks to Fr. El Schwab and Fr. Mark Bachmeier for their help during the service as well as Julie Hommes for her help through the retreat. May the light of these children's faith be brighter day by day.

Bible Basics: What is a Gospel? The word gospel simply means "good news." In the Bible, the good news refers to Jesus Christ, the Son of God (see Mark 1:1). There are four gospel accounts of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus placed at the beginning of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. In addition, there is the second part of Luke, the Acts of the Apostles, sometimes called the Gospel of the Holy Spirit. While there are four separate stories about Jesus, there is only one Gospel. They all proclaim the same good news that through Jesus' life, death, and resurrection salvation becomes available to us all.

Financial Update. Income for the month of December came to $43,858. Expenses for the month totaled $30,975, leaving a gain for the month of $12,883. CAUTION! While this appears to be a very positive month, these figures were calculated before key utility bills were paid, so you have to factor in an additional $6000 in expenses. Still, we're back in black by about $5000! You can see a detailed financial report on our web site at stcharlespdx.org/monthly-financial-report. Many thanks to all of you for your generosity in December! And thanks to all the staff for keeping expenses as low as possible. LET'S KEEP UP THE GOOD FINANCIAL STEWARD-SHIP!
GIFT Sunday - January 28. The next GIFT Sunday will explore the Power of Relationship as we continue to explore the theme of Compassion & Solidarity. What is GIFT Sunday. It is Growing In Faith Together. It is recognizing that the journey of faith is lifelong, that we can all learn from each other, and that we never stop growing. We share a meal, we experience hands-on learning, and we go forth to live our faith in the real world. Learn more about GIFT at stcharlespdx.org/gift.html. Join us on January 28 after the 10 am Mass.
Adults: (16-99 years old) Thursdays, 7pm-9pm in the Parish Center. Who wrote the four gospels? When? Are they true? (Can we believe them?) Thursdays, January 25, February 1, 8, 15, 22, March 1 & 8. Fr. El Schwab.
The Spirit is already moving in the lives of each of our young people. Yet God’s whisper is often very difficult for any of us to hear in this loud world we live in. Our quiet prayer nights are designed so that young people can hear God name, claim, and send them as beloved son’s and daughter’s.
Coming up God Squad (after Sunday Mass): January 21. February
4, 18, 25. Prayer Nights (5-7)pm: Jan 21. Feb 4, 18, 25.
Website/eNews help needed. Looking for a volunteer to donate 1-2 hours per week helping Leif to update the parish website and put together our occasional eNewsletter. You don’t have to be a computer expert, just somewhat digitally enabled. If you do Facebook, or use any social media platform, you can do this work. Interested? Contact Leif at [email protected] or call/text 503-351-9899.
