Scripture Lesson: ..............................................................Mary Quick“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Asit was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, peoplewere eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knewnothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at thecoming of the Son of Man.

Kala Bethany Robaina is being baptized today by Pastor Elliot Smith. She is the granddaughter of Charlieand Melonee Robaina. Melonee is a floral designer at Dorothy Lane Market and has created today’s sanctuaryflower arrangements in Kala’s honor.

About the Music: As we gather for worship the Praise Orchestra plays three worship chorales that werearranged by Michael Katterjohn, music teacher at Greenbrier High School in Augusta, Georgia.

(Hymn No. 50) is a hymn by Henry Lyte about Christ being with us even unto the end. The tune wascomposed by William Monk who was an organist at Kings College in Oxford, GB. (HymnNo. 520) is a Fanny Crosby hymn with a tune composed by her friend, William Kirkpatrick.(Hymn No. 22) is an Isaac Watts hymn with a tune by John Hatton, an English organist. The medley of

and are two hymns by William Bradbury, an American hymnwriter andpublicist in the early 1800’s. Jeff Anderson, a Canadian composer of the early twentieth century, composedthe medley. (Hymn 71) is believed to be a Charles Wesley hymn and is heardtoday in a setting by Steve Dunn, a composer for Lorenz in Dayton, and the Minister of Instrumental Musicfor the Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

(Hymn 213) is a uniquely Seventh-day Adventist hymn written by Jessie Strout, andset to the tune, composed by George E. Lee. Aside from their names, nothing is known aboutthese hymn writers. The hymn has been used since 1937 as the theme song for the Voice of Prophecy radiobroadcast where Lonnie Melashenko was the speaker for many years.

is a contemporary Christian song written in collaboration by Eddie Carswell, LeonardAhlstrom, and Mike Demus for their group Newsong. This song is sung as a gift to Kala Robaina by hergrandfather, Charlie Robaina, and accompanied by Dale Creech, piano. Charlie is a member of our churchchoir, the Bells of Praise, and a project manager in information systems department at KHN.

Is a “smash” of two hymns arranged by John Gage for Praise Orchestra. Greta Shull is today’ssoprano soloist.

(Hymn No. 214) is a uniquely Seventh-day Adventist hymn composed in 1962 by WayneHooper for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists session (a world-wide gathering of churchofficials who discuss church policy), who were meeting in San Francisco. The inspiration for this melody camefrom the first four notes of Brahms Wayne Hooper was also the editor for our hymnal.

is based upon John Rippon’s hymn, (Hymnal No. 509), using anearly American tune, that was probably composed by Joseph Funk, who taught music andconducted singing schools in the Shenandoah Valley, near Shenandoah Valley Academy in Virginia. He diedin 1862. The composer of this piece, Phillip Allen, is an Atlanta-based organist/composer who has had suchhonors as composing the Olympic Theme song for the 1996 Olympics. He also wrote as well as the originalmusic for played by The Israel Philharmonic and conducted by theworld-famous symphony conductor, Zubin Mehta. This composition brings together two of Allen’s passions:composition and organ performance.
