Invocation.......................................................................................Pastor Dan Stevens

Offertory: – arr. Gilbert Martin..................Church ChoirWhen I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of Glory died, my richest gain I count butloss, and pour contempt on all my pride. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, save in the death ofChrist, my God; all the vain things that charm me most I sacrifice them to His blood. See, from Hishead, His hands, His feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down; did e’er such love and sorrow meet,or thorns compose so rich a crown? Were the whole realm of nature mine, that were a present fartoo small. Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.

Worship Notes

Participants: Pastor Brendon Prutzman, pastor for youth and administration, presents today’s sermonon “Getting God through Symbols.” Pastor Dan Stevens, pastor for children’s ministries, hosts today’sworship and presents the children’s lesson.

Music: As we gather for worship, we hear the music of George F. Handel (February, 1685 – April 14, 1759)who was German by birth, trained in Italy and spent the remainder of his life in England.

(Hymn 73) has been referred to as the King of Hymns. The words were written in 1826 byReginald Heber and sung to a tune by John B. Dykes. The tune, is named after the famous meetingwhere Church leaders met in Nicaea. Theydiscussed and came to an agreement on what the “threein one” actually meant.

is a setting of Isaac Watts’ hymn (found in our Hymnal No. 154).This composition is by Dayton resident, Gilbert Martin, who was the organist-choir director at Christ MethodistChurch on Shroyer Road when he created this anthem.

(Hymn 61) is largely the basis for today’s sermon and communion service. This hymn waswritten in 1977 by Fred Pratt Green, a retired Methodist minister, currently living in Norwich, England.

(translates: Holy) is sung by Josh Wheeker, a Spring Valley Academy graduate who is currentlyattending the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music.

was chosen to end today’s worship because it challengesus to be creative in finding ways to serve others.

was composed by Frederick Swann, the organist who played the dedication concert on ourpipe organ in 1971 when it was brand new, and again at a rededication concert in 2002, when it was rebuilt.
