Welcome to Resorts in BloomDear Garden Tour Guest,
Welcome! We would like to thank you for coming to our 2nd Annual Resorts in Bloom Garden Tour. We are excited to share with you these spectacular gar-dens that belong to our local resorts who have lovingly opened their doors to you, our supporters. It has been a true pleasure to work with each resort owner and have a chance to experience what incredibly gracious hosts they are! And we hope that, in the future, you will choose to patronize the businesses and sponsors who are supporting our three charities through this special event.
is tour promises to be a unique experience as it is the only time of year that the resorts in West Sonoma County open their doors and gardens for touring by the public. We ask that you please respect the privacy of the resort guests and remember that the resorts are in full operation during this tour. Making this event even more memorable, this is the second year the three larg-est health and human services agencies in the Russian River area have joined together to bring awareness to the critical services we provide: West County Health Centers, West County Community Services, and River to Coast Children’s Services. After the tour, please take some time to learn more about our non-pro t agencies by visiting their websites. (www.wchealth.org; www.westcountysevices.org ; www.rccservices.org )
We know you will enjoy this tour of the nest gardens in West County with their historical landmarks, rare plants, meditation gardens, cooking and master garden presentations and much more. Take pleasure in the ex-perience as you relax with friends and stroll leisurely through these breathtaking gardens. Enjoy nature’s most precious gifts…
…listen to the birds singing. …take time to smell the roses.

The Meditation garden was designed and built under the direction of Rob-ert Ketchell, a renowned British horticulturalist who has studied landscape design extensively in Kyoto Japan.
Currently chairman of the Japanese Garden Society (based in the UK) and principle of Sansui Design, he is also an author, lecturer, fi lm maker, and Kyoto garden tourguide. Ketchell met Osmosis founder Michael Stusser in Kyoto. The two dreamed of working together to create a garden that cap-tured the spirit of the classic gardens of that magical Japanese city.

The Raford Inn
Horticultural historian Bob Hornback will be giving guided tours of the gardens he has developed for the Raford Inn, on Saturday and Sunday, at 2pm each day.
Built in 1880, this three-story estate manor house is an o² cially-designated historic landmark. e authentic Victori-an-era French Colonial architecture still remains, including the original Queen Anne accents. Raford Peterson’s family lived here and worked the land for 100 years before it was sold, refurbished to modern codes and converted into an Inn. e original 1,300 acre property was once mainly planted with hops. Now vineyards prevail and the remaining four acres are a protected sanctuary for a house that is not merely a place to shelter travelers, but is also a home where the spirit of conge-nial country hospitality lives on. Come... enjoy the enclosed sunroom and wrap-around veranda. Gaze through the tower-ing palm trees across the grape vines and step back into the 19th century.
“Farther from the mod-ern world than the eye can see, yet only fteen minutes from every-where, we of the Raford Inn invite you to experi-ence a warm and memo-rable visit to a time and place that has not quite yet gone by…”—Dane and Rita, Innkeepers

This Russian River bed and breakfast, in the Sonoma Wine Country, is a Victorian farmhouse dating back to the 1870’s. Built by a prominent physician as his residence, the property has been an olive oil mill, a winery, a speak-easy, a stage coach stop and, since 1984, a bed and breakfast inn. Extensively renovated and modernized, the stately structure boasts fi ve bedrooms and fi ve and half bathrooms.

packages focus on romance, biking , canoeing, kayaking.”
Deeply rooted in history, this classic Victorian farmhouse was built in 1870 from redwood trees felled and milled on site. A prosperous San Francisco physician, Dr. Joseph Prosek, was an immigrant from Bohemia and a good friend of the Kor-bel brothers from the same area of Europe. Dr. Prosek and his wife Emma, purchased 200 acres along the Russian River, across from the Korbel Vineyards, and built the family home known today as Santa Nella House.
ey also built a sawmill and an olive oil press. ey planted olive trees, which did not ¬ ourish and later planted vineyards, which fared much better. For many years the Santa Nella Winery produced quality wines and vinegars.
As the story goes, Dr. Prosek and Emma occasionally visit the inn as friendly ghosts, dressed in their Victorian nery. e Inn is listed in the book, e Haunted Inns of Northern California.

Sonoma County Supervisor, Efren CarrilloI am pleased to welcome you, and express my gratitude to all the sponsors, attendees, resort owners, and many volunteers whose work makes “Resorts In Bloom” possible.
Special acknowledgement is due to the generous resort owners who have agreed to open their gardens and inns to the touring public for this fund raising weekend. Hopefully the individual character of the gardens and the wonderful western Sonoma County springtime climate will continue to lure appreciative visitors here for many seasons to come.
Now, more than ever, our local community based organizations need our nancial support…and this is a great way to give back while enjoying the splendor that we enjoy in West County.
West County Health Centers, River to Coast Children’s Services and West County Community Services (WCCS) are all vital institutions in our River area communities. e many health care, children’s and social programs they provide for our families have been an essential part of the community’s infrastructure for over three decades.
Please enjoy the bounty and beauty that West Sonoma County and all these lovely resorts have to o¦ er, and know that while you are enjoying this fun event, you are contributing to critical community programs.

Sonoma County Sheriff Elect, Steve FreitasWest County Health Centers, River to Coast Children’s Services and West County Community Services are all so grateful for the generous support of our future sheri Steve Freitas.
I am honored to be a part of this event supporting three critical charity organizations that provide health and human services in West Sonoma County. is continues to be tough nancial times for these agencies, as more and more people need their help and less and less funding is available to provide services. I want to thank each and every one of you for participating in this fundraiser to support their good work.
From a law enforcement perspective, I view these agencies as important resources for keeping people a¦ ected by poverty and disadvantage out of the criminal justice system. We see incredible human su¦ ering everyday caused by problems that access to health and human services could,
in many cases, prevent. All of us envision a brighter future for our children, a healthy environment, and a safe place to live….thank you for working together to make that vision a reality for our community.
I invite you to enjoy the beautiful gardens of West Sonoma County highlighted in this program and I want to personally thank you for supporting critical community programs for children, seniors, and families in need. While you relax and soak in the natural beauty of our region, I encourage you to stop a moment and listen to the birds and take time to smell the roses.
