Two short Jews, 3 Arabs and a camel = one funny show Lyric Stage, Dallas County's only locally produced professional musical theater company, presents the world premiere of THE ROAD TO QATAR, Stephen Cole and David Krane's true new musical comedy, October 9-24, 2009 in the Irving Arts Center's Dupree Theater. Performances are Thursday through Saturday evenings @ 8:00 PM with matinees on Sundays and Saturday, October 24. Tickets can be Ordered Online by Clicking here or by calling 972-252-2787. THE ROAD TO QATAR is based on the hysterical real life experience of two New York musical theater writers being commissioned to write the first American musical to premiere in the Middle East. Three years ago both book writer/lyricist Stephen Cole and composer David Krane (who did not know each other at the time) simul-taneously received emails that read: "We want you write musical. How much?" Thus began an unbelievable but true journey that introduced the two "short Jews" to an alien world of camels, deserts and crazy Egyptian theatrical producers. During the course of this sensational Arab adventure, Stephen and David starred in their own personal Bob Hope-Bing Crosby "road picture" that took them to Dubai, Qatar, London, Bratislava and back to the USA after writing and presenting a huge original musical for the Emir of Qatar and one thousand of his invited guests. When they returned, they had no other choice but to write their story in the only way they knew how: as a musical! The names have all been changed, but the story is totally true. For the world premiere, Lyric Stage has assembled a wonderful cast and creative team. After his triumph last season as Fiorello LaGuardia in Lyric Stage's FIORELLO!, Brian Gonzales (Bway's Putnam County Spelling Bee) returns to Lyric Stage as Michael (Cole) and Lee Zarrett (Bway's Putnam County Spelling Bee) as Jeffrey (Krane). Jill Abramovitz (Bway's 9 to 5 The Musical and Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, Bill Nolte (Bway's The Producers) and Bruce Warren complete the cast. Phillip George (Forbidden Broadway) directs with music direction by David Caldwell. Scenic and costume de-sign is by Michael Bottari and Ronald Case , lighting design is by Susan A. The Texas Voices, Collin County’s professional chamber chorus, will begin its seventh season of public concerts with A Tale of Two Centuries on Sunday, October 18, 2009. The 2009-2010 season will bring stylistic variety and guest artists to the chamber cho-rus roots of The Texas Voices. To start this season, The Texas Voices will branch out to opera with the opera-style vocal ensemble, Fifth Octave.

Special matinee performance! Don’t miss this unique chance to hear The Texas Voices transformed into an opera chorus as it is joined by the opera-stylists, “Fifth Octave” for a spirited afternoon of Henry Purcell, G.F. Handel, J.S. Bach, Franz Haydn, and W.A. Mozart. The 24-member chorus, directed by Alan Dyer, will perform its first concert of the sea-son on Sunday, October 18 at 2:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 6121 E. Lovers Lane in Dallas. Tickets are $22 regular, $15 for seniors (65+), and $10 for students and may be purchased online at www.thetexasvoices.org, at the door, or by calling 214-384-6336. Season tickets are $65 regular, $45 for seniors, and $25 for students. About The Texas Voices Founded in December 2002, this 24-voice ensemble celebrates the choral tradition with a rich variety of music, from sacred to secular, classic to contemporary. Artistic Director Alan Dyer has gathered skilled singers from a broad range of backgrounds to create the first professional chamber chorus specifically serving North Dallas and Collin County. Dyer brings to the combination a musical sensitivity that places The Texas Voices among the top echelon of choruses nationwide. About Alan Dyer, Artistic Director Alan Dyer has been a choral director, performer, and educator in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for more than 20 years. In addition to directing The Texas Voices, Dyer is a member of the music faculty at Texas Woman’s University, is a music associate at First Unitarian Church of Dallas, and the principal accompa-nist of the Children's Chorus of Greater Dallas. Dyer earned a master of music degree from Southern Methodist University and bachelor of arts degree in piano performance from Dallas Baptist University. He also has completed doctoral courses at the University of North Texas. Dyer is active in the American and Texas Choral Directors Associations.

The 2009-2010 Robert T. Anderson Recital Series
Bringing the best in Organ Performance from around the world to Dallas
Since 1998, the Dallas Chapter of the American Guild of Organists has brought the very finest national and international art-ists to Dallas to perform on our city’s many noted and celebrated instruments through the Robert T. Anderson Recital Se-ries. This season, the Series remembers the life of Dr. Robert T. Anderson (1934-2009) - master teacher, brilliant performer, champion of the “king of instruments” and its vast repertoire. Dr. Anderson left an indelible mark in the artistic life of Dallas through his many students and the new instruments built in the city through his influence. Please join us in celebrating Dr. Anderson’s legacy by supporting this Recital Series and our offerings.

Monday, October 19, 2009 JAN KRAYBILL Church of the Incarnation 3966 McKinney Avenue Jan Kraybill is Principal Organist and Director of Music at Community of Christ (formerly RLDS) In-ternational Headquarters in Independence, Missouri. She performs regularly on the famous 113-rank Aeolian-Skinner Auditorium Organ and the Temple’s magnificent 103-rank Casavant or-gan. She holds degrees in music education and piano performance from Kansas State University and a DMA in organ performance from the Conservatory of Music, University of Missouri at Kansas City.
Dr. Kraybill has performed in many venues in the United States as well as Canada, Germany, Poland, South Korea, Russia, and Tahiti, and has undertaken multiple tours of the United Kingdom which have included performances on historic organs, including St. Paul's Cathedral in London. She has appeared on regional and national musicians’ conventions, including the American Guild of Organists (AGO), the American Choral Directors’ Association, the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada, and the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians. Her next CD will be released during the 50th anniversary cele-bration of the installation of the Community of Christ Auditorium’s organ, in November 2009.
Monday, February 15, 2010 MARTIN WELZEL Caruth Auditorium, Southern Methodist University 6101 Bishop Boulevard Martin Welzel studied with Daniel Roth and Wolfgang Rübsam at the University of Music in Saar-brücken, Germany, where he earned Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in sacred music, as well as a Master’s Degree and Artist Diploma in organ performance, both with highest honors. He holds a DMA degree in organ performance from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA, where
he studied with Dr. Carole Terry and wrote a dissertation on Jeanne Demessieux. In addition, he was the recipient of a Ro-tary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship. Dr. Welzel has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe as soloist, accompanist and member of en-sembles. He has made numerous broadcast recordings and has also been featured on American Public Me-dia’s Pipedreams. For Naxos International he has recorded several CDs featuring organ works of Max Reger. Dr. Welzel, along with his wife Alexandra Kertz-Welzel, perform together as the Emerald City Duo, exploring the repertoire of the 19th and 20th century for organ and piano.

Monday, May 10, 2010 AARON DAVID MILLER Highland Park United Methodist Church 3300 Mockingbird Lane Prize winner of several prestigious competitions, including the top prize at the AGO National Improvisation Competition, and the Bach and Improvisation prizes at the Calgary Interna-tional Organ Festival Competition, Aaron David Miller is in constant demand as a recital-ist. His repertoire spans all periods but he is particularly noted for his stylish performances of Johann Sebastian Bach and his imaginative and highly original improvisations.
Miller earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied organ performance with David Craighead, Russell Saunders, David Higgs, and Michael Farris, and composition with Samuel Adler and Joseph Schwantner. His graduate studies were taken at the Manhattan School of Music, where he completed his Master’s degree and DMA, studying composition and organ performance with McNeil Robinson. His many solo organ, choral, and orches-tra compositions have won critical acclaim, receiving performances in the US and abroad. Since 2008 he has served as the Director of Music and Organist at House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Take Flight with Voces Intimae in the 2009/2010 Season. Voces Intimae announces the first art song Recital of this year’s season, The Children’s Hour, on October 24 at 4 PM. In this first-ever Voces Intimae family concert, our artists, all mothers themselves, will use song and poetry to illustrate the ideas of home, family, emotions, animals, and what it’s like being a kid. This engaging narrated program is ideal for families with children aged 3-12; audience participation will be encouraged. Art song is poetry set to music for vocalists, accompanied by piano or other instrument. All Voces Intimae concerts feature art songs showcasing an array of composers and styles, in a mix of languages and moods. The Children’s Hour is no exception. This concert, timed for young listeners at just about an hour, will introduce German, French, and Spanish language songs and opera selections alongside numerous songs by English by some of America’s most beloved composers for the stage and recital hall.

VideoFest Presents Guts and Glory 24hr Film Race Halloween Night!
Have you got the guts to bet the pot without seeing the cards? Got the guts to
bungee jump off Reunion Tower without checking the line? This Halloween, it's "No Guts, No Glory" as 8 teams of filmmakers shoot a 3-min movie, without looking.
Here's what we mean: Each team will shoot shot after shot, every scene of their movie in order, in camera. They will then perform the music, sound effects and voices live the next week live at VideoFest in the Angelika Theater, in front of a live audience.
Here's the catch--It'll be the first time they see their own movie. It'll be unedited with all its flaws. It's America's Funniest Home Videos meets French auteur filmmaking. For all of you who take a thousand digital photos until you look good, you probably don't have the guts! These filmmakers-- they've got the guts and they'll get the glory!
RACE DETAILS:
The 8 teams will meet at the starting line in the Angelika Theater Cafe at Mockingbird Sta-tion at 6 p.m. Oct. 31. At sundown 7 p.m. we will reveal a surprise theme, location and prop they will need to incorporate into the film. They will receive their 100 feet of 16 mm reversal film or color Super 8. Then it's on!
The teams will race to make their films and cross the finish line at the Angelika by sundown 7 p.m. on Nov. 1. The films will be viewed for the first time at the Angelika Film Center, lo-cated in Dallas' Mockingbird Station, on Friday, Nov 6, as a part of VideoFest. Anything goes and anything could happen as these teams battle for the distinction of Best Overall, Best Cinematography, Best Live Performance, and other awards.
Registration costs $100. The competition will begin at 6 p.m. sundown on Saturday, Oct. 31 (Halloween Night). All films must be turned in by 7 p.m. sundown on Sunday, Nov 1.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee: The Cast Extended through November 1
Theatre Three’s 2009-2010 “Pursuit of Happiness” Season begins with the Tony Award-winning musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin. Everyone has a different idea of hap-piness and how to get it: living a full life onstage, winning a spelling bee, merging two very different lives for ro-mantic success, surviving all of life’s changes with grace, creating something entertaining at the very last minute, treasuring America’s musical heritage, learning how to dance again, celebrating the holidays with wild abandon, paying tribute to a legendary talent, finding that one true love, and conquering personal demons. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee begins previews on Thursday, September 24, 2009 and will close on Sunday, Octo-ber 25, 2009. Who will win The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee? The contestants are formidable: Logainne Schwart-zandgrubenierre has two Dads cheering her on from the stands, Marcy Park speaks six languages, Chip Tolentino was last year’s champion, Olive Ostrovsky considers the dictionary her best friend, William Barfee has a “magic foot”, and Leaf Coneybear almost won his school’s spelling bee. 22nd Annual VideoFest – Announces CALL FOR ENTRIES
The VideoFest has kicked-off its CALL FOR ENTRIES and hunt for cutting-edge work for its 22nd celebration of video and electronic media.
The 22nd Annual VideoFest will be held at the Angelika Film Center Nov.5-8, 2009. It is the oldest and largest video festival in the nation and continues to ex-hibit a diverse range of works by regional, national and international video artists.
Since 1986 The Dallas Video Festival has specialized in fiercely independent, imaginative, unusual, provocative and sometimes description-defying electronic media. In fact, we're the oldest and the largest video festival in the nation. In our 22 year history, we've screened or hosted different programs ranging from imagina-tive 30-second television commercials to mesmerizing video art, compelling docu-mentaries, surrealistic animation, innovative digital features, intelligent, kid-friendly fare, thought-provoking panels and narrative shorts that surprise, inspire and enter-tain.
If your entry will push some buttons, we want you to send it in right away!
There are no thematic or content restrictions. Categories include any style or genre — experimental, documentary, animation, music video, feature, multimedia. We are also accepting entries shot and finished in high definition video. Texas entries under 25 minutes are eligible for a special program called the Texas Show.

The Texas Voices performs “My Spirit Rejoices: A Celebration of Advent

The Texas Voices, Collin County’s professional chamber chorus, will continue its sev-enth season of public concerts with My Spirit Rejoices: A Celebration of Advent and the Christmas Season on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009. This holiday concert will feature the chancel choir from Northway Christian Church and the premiere of Debra Scroggins’ new cantata, Magnificat. The 24-member chorus, directed by Alan Dyer, will perform its second concert of the season on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. at Northway Christian Church, 7202 W. North-west Hwy. in Dallas. What is Cooperative Arts News?
The Mission: The CAN organization was created for the purpose of helping cooperative member arts organizations build audiences by supporting each other. CAN will send notifications to list members with news of member organizations' upcoming events and other arts news of interest. The Rules: 1. Since this is a "cooperative" of arts organizations supporting each other, member groups who
would like to post notices, agree to "receive" notifications from other member groups in return. Individuals will have the option at any time to "opt-out" if they choose not to receive future notifications by e-mailing the list manager.
2. In order to preserve the integrity and quality of the postings to this list and to prevent any unwanted "Spamming," all notifications that member groups want to send through this notification list must come through the list manager. Groups simply send an e-mail notification to the list manager with a descriptive write-up and it will be sent.
