COWI NORTH AMERICA ENERGYCOWI North America Energy is part of the COWI Group’s global network of 6,100 employees. Together with our three North American sister companies, we service our clients from thirteen offices in the USA and Canada. COWI North America Energy focuses on wind, biomass and district energy as significant energy solutions for North America. We join our customers in what we call our 360° approach. It’s an approach based on dialogue, where together we explore how we can provide coherent solutions.

COWI PROVIDES SITE CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING SUPPORT FOR THE TOWN OF LYNN, MA WATER TREATMENT PLANT COWI WAS ENGAGED BY SKANSKA BUILDING, USA, the project contractor, to provide construction management consulting and commissioning support for a 600 kW wind turbine project at the Town’s waste water treatment plant. This project will provide up to 40% of the plant’s electricity, saving Town water customers up to $200k a year.

COWI PROVIDES PROJECT DUE DILIGENCE STUDIES FOR THE KINGSTON AND IPSWICH COMMUNITY WIND ENERGY PROJECTSCOWI ALONG WITH STV is providing wind energy project due diligence for Cathay Bank, the project lender, for two Massachusetts community wind energy projects, each using a single Hyundai 2.0 MW wind turbine on municipal landfill sites. COWI reviews the project documents, including the projected energy yield calculations to verify that the project is financially sound. In addition, COWI safeguards the Bank’s interests, by monitoring the construction process to verify that each milestone is met prior to any payments being made.

COWI CONDUCTS 50 MW WIND ENERGY PROJECT FEASIBILITY STUDIES IN PERUCOWI IS PERFORMING A PROJECT FEASIBILITY ASSESSMENT for a prospective 50 mw wind energy project on the Pan-American Highway, near Trujillo in Northern Peru. COWI installed two 60m meteorological towers to be monitored for one year, in order to provide a site wind resource assessment. In addition, COWI is also performing a site construction suitability analysis, wind turbine component transportation feasibility study, utility grid interconnection study, and an economic feasibility study to identify the prospective project return on investment. These studies will allow the developer, a large Latin American agribusiness, and their financer, the World Bank, to properly assess the project site for wind energy project viability.

COWI MANAGES DARTMOUTH 4.0 MW COMMUNITY WIND ENERGY PROJECTCOWI, ALONG WITH STV ACTED AS THE TOWN OF DARTMOUTH WIND ENERGY PROJECT ENGINEERS for this 4.0 MW project. Responsibililities included: review of the site assessment data and project planning process to date, preparation of grant proposals to the State Water Resources Board and Mass Clean Energy Center, preliminary project design, preparation of the Town’s procurement documents (RPFs) for wind turbine and project construction suppliers, project bid evaluation, and public outreach support.

COWI PROVIDES WIND TURBINE DYNAMIC UTILITY GRID STABILITY MODELING COWI WAS ENGAGED BY SANY ELECTRIC to provide the PSS/E and ASPEN Dynamic Stability Models for three models of their 2.0 MW wind turbines. These mathematical models are required by the wind farm interconnection utility for grid dynamic stability simulations and are an important step to gaining market entry for any new wind turbine manufacturer. COWI also provided the electrical system design and interconnection application support for Sany’s first project, a 10 MW wind farm in Ralls, Texas.

COWI PROVIDES PLANNING, SITE ASSESSMENT STUDIES FOR A 400 MW TEXAS WIND ENERGY PROJECTCOWI PROVIDED SITE FEASIBILITY ASSESSMENT STUDIES including the installation of met towers, a wind resource review, environmental, cultural and historic resource surveys, electrical interconnection, and annual energy production (AEP) studies on behalf of a Texas developer in support of this 400 MW project in Haskell County, Texas.

COWI INSTALLS MET TOWERS AT A REMOTE ALPINE EPA SUPERFUND SITECOWI WIND REFURBISHED AN EXISTING Meteorlogical tower and erected a second tower at this EPA Superfund Site for Acid Mine Drainage in the remote High Sierras of California. In addition to new sensors, and pyronomiters, COWI provided data loggers with satellite data retrieval for remote monitoring. Review of the wind and solar resourxes may lead to the design and installation of wind and/or solar systems, ultimately supplememting the expensive diesel energy presently used to power the water treatment facility at the sit.
