Halloween, Saturday 31 October

In some ways, 2020 is the ideal year for excited children to dress up in costumes: a Saturday; an extra hour of sleep Sunday because clocks fall back; and a full moon!!! Unfortunately with the pandemic, “tricking or treating” from house to house will be curtailed by good parents watching out for their kids. Please pray for the protection and safety of all our youngsters on this normally festive evening!

All Saints Day, Sunday 1 November

All Masses this weekend are dedicated to the Solemnity of all those “Hallowed Ones” who have gone before us, marked by the profound sign of faith in Jesus Christ. May all of us realize our universal call to holiness, in following the paths of those Saints who are special in our lives!

All Souls Day, Monday 2 November Sometimes called the “Day of the Dead”, this feast is always sacred to Catholics, in remembering the lives of our loved ones who have passed from this life through death, unto the promise of eternal life. Our Christian hope of seeing them again in paradise, is what sustains through the darkness of dying. Please write the names of your deceased loved ones on the All Souls envelopes you received in the mail, or the envelopes provided, by the doors of the Church. We will keep them on the altar and by the tabernacle through out the month of November. We will also pray for all those who died this past year from our parish, and all the victims of the pandemic who died without a funeral Mass. Masses will be the usual 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM in English; along with Mass at 8:00 PM in both Spanish and Portuguese.

7 October 2020 (Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary)

Dear Friends and Family of Corpus Christi Church,

I pray that you are surviving this strange year of 2020. Remember on New Year ’s Day when we were all hoping this would be a year of “perfect 2020 vision”? How profoundly the pandemic has changed everything! And yet here at our beloved Corpus Christi, we persevere in building up the Body of Christ; all because of your fantastic faith in the goodness of God!

Autumn is always the traditional time for our once-a-year parish fundraiser, by way of the four raffle tickets we are sending to each home. They are $25 each, which will go toward the upgrading of security systems and cameras in our church, parish hall, school, office and rectory. There will be three cash prizes ($1,500, $1,000, $500) to be drawn on Sunday 6 December (St. Nicholas Feast Day) after the 3pm Concert and the lighting of our parish Christmas tree.

We give gratitude to God for your faithful giving to our parish, most importantly by your presence and prayers. But also we are thankful for your weekly support of Corpus Christi, and the financial assistance we need during this coronavirus crisis. Please return the raffle ticket stubs and donations to the rectory by mail, in person, or in the collection baskets.

May the Lord bless your generous hearts!

Yours in Christ, Rev. Malcolm J. Burns, Pastor

St. Vincent de Paul Society Update At this time of the year we usually have a clothing drive to help those in need in our community. Due to the Covid-19 situation, this will not occur. However, we still send our needy to the St. Vincent de Paul store in Garden City Park to obtain clothing especially for their children. Please donate your used clothing directly to them. The address is 2160 Jericho Tpke Garden City Park 11040. It is open Mon-Fri 10-6, and the donation area is in the back in the open. No need to go in the store! On another note, there will also be no " Walk For The Poor" this fall which is our main event for raising funds to assist those in need. So, if you want to make a donation, please make a check to St Vincent de Paul Society and give it to parish outreach or the rectory. Please put it in an envelope clearly marked, so you will be assured it will get to the right place. As always, we thank you for your continued support especially in these difficult times.
