Interview Seven Married Couples

You are going to start off the year by doing some research. You are going to interview married couples about marriage. Think of some questions you want to know the answer to and write them down (at least seven). Next, ask those seven questions to the seven different couples you have chosen. Try to get couples in different seasons of life.

What did you learn about marriage from these interviews? What conclusions have you drawn? Which conclusions would benefit others? After you gather all your answers, you will write an article based on the interview. Be sure to use quotes from the people you interview.

• Jessica is a news anchor. The disasters going on around the world make her feel depressed. • Fred loves God, but his friends all make fun of him. • Stan is offered money to do a job for his boss. “Let’s keep this off the books” he says and

slips him $500.00.” I don’t want you to report this as income. Let’s keep it under the table. • Jon feels distant from God. He stopped reading the Bible and says that it’s boring. • Sally is wondering if God really exists. He never seems to answer her prayers. • Joe is exhausted from going to bed in the middle of the night and having to wake up early to

do school. He plays video games until three in the morning. • Jeff thinks he’ll go to Heaven because he’s a good person. • Sally doesn’t think anyone likes her. She sits by herself if she is with a group of people. • Ellen is good friends with Helen and Terri, but Helen doesn’t like Terri. She wants Ellen to

stop being friends with Terri. • Jason and his brother, Jonah, are always arguing with one another.

Outline of my Interview Article/Essay

If you need directions for writing an essay, go back to the “Directions for God’s Girls Assignments” in the beginning of the book and read the section on essays or talk to you Mom/Dad/Teacher.

You are going to be sifting through what you have learned from your interviews with various couples and drawing some conclusions. Use the Bible to evaluate advice that couples shared with you.

Before you begin your article/essay, think about your reader. Pretend you are writing for a Christian magazine on marriage. Your readers, or audience, will be young Christian couples. I encourage you to share this essay with young couples when you are finished.

Also, think about what you want to say to your reader/audience. What is the message you want to impart? Try to write it down in one sentence.

Now take your message in a nutshell and turn it into a thesis statement. You have a message that you want to convince, or prove, to young couples. How will you prove it? With quotes from these couples you interviewed, as well as Bible verses. Write a thesis statement that will guide your article.
